Don't get me wrong, I love Super Metroid (and still play it/speedrun it) and FF6 is fantastic, but SMW and Sonic 1 changed the entire industry. As well as Street Fighter II; this year had innovation like no other.

And the SNES needed a match pic in all of its matches. It's arguably the greatest or second greatest console ever made. Every kid in '91 would relish playing their friend's SNES and letting them play their Genesis (or vice versa).

1991 was far more legendary and groundbreaking than 1994, and I believe everyone that based this contest only off of games, has missed the point of this contest. It's also about how the industry evolved, the innovation, and how different years impacted different generations.

It is what it is, but I'm disappointed because I believe this exact match highlights the missed potential of this contest. It's about more than just the games.

Yeah but if you rearrange the letters, it says, "2Cook4Jakyl".

So it must be your private chef.

For that %, you have to look past just this round. Only 49% of people thought 1994 would make it out of Round 1, and then only 35% thought it would continue past Round 2. On top of that, only 52% of people thought 1991 would make it past Round 2, so there must've been a lot of people that had predicted something like 2002 vs 2004 for this Round 3 match.

It's not 19% think 94 and 81 think 91 it's split between all the years in that section of thebracket. So everyone that 94 and 91 has bet so far.

91 probably only has 30 percent or something. 2004 would maybe be the casual favourite.

1994 faced off against 2004 in round 1 and then 2011 in round 2. Both 2004 and 2011 appealed very strongly to casual bracket makers (compared to the Gurus). By the time 1994 could make it to round 3, it would have very little support among the casuals. So that explains the extremely low prediction percentage.

I went from 8th to off the leaderboard. The only match I got wrong was 2006 vs 2011. I was actually predicting a comfortable 1991 win, with at least 55%.

I actually think the opposite. Surely bracket makers expected 1991 to win, but even if they all voted for their brackets it wouldn't make a difference. It's too small (and biased) of a sample now.

Exactly. This is an opinion poll on a website that tends to have some biases towards Nintendo (which I love) and Final Fantasy games.

If this were a poll of people in the industry and journalists who have covered games, I would suspect that the years in the 1970s and the early 1980s would have had WAY more of a showing than they did, if not winning it all.
