You are now a baseball bat that is burning. If this were dnd, you would feel like you do about 1d6 more fire damage, but this is not dnd and you are wood. Maybe being on fire was not a smart move, but smart moves are for things that have brains. The person holding you is no longer holding you and is now running away in shock and shouting obscenities. As a bat, English is not your first language so it is hard to tell.

The somebody else is now approaching your flaming bat body. What do you do?

A. Nothing. This is fine.
B. Try and roll away.
C. Set them on fire.
D. Be something else.

Sometimes the highest form of action is inaction, as someone at some time once said maybe. You do nothing but wait as what turns out to be an old man approaches. Suddenly you feel like you are not on fire any more. In fact, you feel better than normal, as if you were more than just a shaped wooden object, but a shaped wooden object capable of making independent thought and action. You feel...alive!

"Hello, baseball bat, I am a great and powerful wizard and you have passed my test. I have granted you temporary sapience as part of a grand wizard experiment. A rival wizard has done the same to another object and I need to prove that I made the right choice. If you win, I will make your animation permanent and can offer lots of gold for you to pursue your dreams. What do you say?"

A. Accept the wizard's offer.
B. Refuse to take part in this weird wizard battle.
C. Do nothing at all as if you were just a normal bat.

The wizard's eyes look you over, expecting a favorable reply. But there is only motionless silence as you lay there doing nothing.

"Well? Come on, yes or no, I have important wizard things to do! Hurry up!" The wizard practically shouts in your direction.

You continue doing nothing, feeling a bit less alive than previously thought. Also a bit wet. Water, that's what put out your fire and invigorated you, not some wizard spell! In fact, this wizard is a bit on the scruffy side and has some flies buzzing around him.

The reality of your situation sinks in as you realize that this wizard is not, in fact, a wizard at all, but a common crazy bum who probably threw something on fire at your previous handler and the fire spread onto you.

Content that everything that transpired makes a reasonable amount of sense, you find your narrative agency slip away. You are a baseball bat and do not get to make choices. In the days to come, you will likely be used as a deterrent or tossed into an oil barrel fire for warmth.
