Now before I begin I am not normally a snitch, and couldnt care less about what other people doing, but im not even at work and this has me goin'

job info: daytime cashiers work up until 11PM. at 10PM overnight comes in. store never closes.

I work until 11PM anywhere from 3-5 nights a week. I am not the biggest fan of working until 11, but i do like working evenings so I dont complain or anything, it is what it is.

Today I was done at 9PM. on the way out I asked a supervisor(not a real manager), who was until 11, and she said that nobody was, but Don(guy i hate) was scheduled until 11 but went home early. She mentioned he told him he was going to leave at 6 when she got into work.

So if I am interpreting this correctly, manchild(dude is like 60) didnt want to work until 11, so he faked illness to leave early. This makes me so mad, because I can somehow work until 11 every night of the week if need be, and he gets one shift and bitches out. Or he could have just left, or...I dont know. I dont know how it went down(but i will ask all the supervisors tomorrow what they know), but I want to know. Seeing as he told a supervisor he was going home at 6, it seems awfully strange he actually did, unless he faked sick or something. Guy did not, to my knowledge, appear sick today.

I could go on and on about how terrible a coworker Don is, but this is really straw the broke camels back here. I'm worried about being way understaffed sometimes and manchild just goes home. This really should be a fireable offense but hey idiotic management and.....we'll see.

this is the wrong way to look at it, if you don't let management know then he's the one that gets the pay raise/promotion and you get nothing

If this is a one time thing, I don't see what the big deal is.

And no one needs to have an excuse to leave work early. Just say "I need to leave" or "I have something I have to do." Adults tend to respect privacy.

I have a guy like that at my work

We are both Managers, this dude is a total flake and regularly comes in late and leaves early and fucks over shifts with poor decision making, like last week he "came in early" to cover for an employee (he was scheduled for 11, and came in at 11) then called in the other manager to close for him who was supposed to to also be in at 11, so it was just us 2, because he can't work a double then open, even though I just did a double Saturday then opened

maybe he was sick but it didnt seem like it. seemed like he just wanted to go home and was being a lazy ass. i could be wrong though. just not sure why he told the one aupervisor he was going home at 6 though. thats when his lunch breal would have started.

somebody i used to work with mentioned this guy has a habit of making enemies of people quickly and if he found out i would then certainly be his enemy. now im thinking this might not be worth it. i wasnt going to pursue this until i found out for sure what happened. now i dunno if i even want to

Seems to be an assumption on your part. Even more so since you've admitted you're already biased against him due to your dislike of him.

And even if he's not sick, as helly pointed out, the dude is sixty. He's probably been working since his teens. I'd imagine after 40+ years of working, sometimes you just want some fucking time off. Maybe he faked sick, but who gives a shit. Just do your job and mind your own business.

also yeah he is 60 but that doesnt give you any leeway. cant handle the job? too old and frail? quit, i guess. i dont know what else to say. i normally do mind my own business but this directly impacted me thus my salt.

its also true almost nobody i work with likes him either. this isnt the first sketchy thinv hes done he has a history as well. it isnt like im picking on some well meaning old guy who might have been sick. but yeah as i said wasnt gonna go to management unless i was sure

I learned a long time ago not to complain when someone is out. Yes, it can suck that you have to do extra work, but you are eventually going to be the guy who is out and forcing your co-workers to do more. I mean sure I am going to be doing extra work this summer while my co-workers take their families to Disney Land or something, but I know come December I am going to have to tell them "Whelp, I have 4 weeks of vacation to burn and only 4 weeks to take it, so see you guys in January!"

If it is a problem, then management will see it, and if they don't see it, then it is not a problem and the last thing you want to do is make it one. Because the next time you have to take sick time their eyes are going to be on you.

admittedly i dont know for certain but he always complains constantly when he has to work until 11 which is only once every few weeks it seems like. but each timd he just complains a lot. that was my first suspicion. second he didnt look ill all day. of course that doesnt mean he wasnt ill somehow. third he told the one supervisor he would be leaving at 6pm. i dont know i took that to mean(knowing this guys attitude) like he had pre planned getting out of work in advance.

so not really anything definitive but i wasnt gonna say anything until i knew for sure.

probably not going to now though because i dont want him to find out itcwas me somehow then be on a 60 year old manchilds shit list

well he is an old man, they don't tend to like staying up very late, and 11 is, admittedly, pretty dang late.
