Finished 1st playthrough at 102 hours.

Starting New Game+

This board seems to be more critical of P5 than I expected but I don't care this is the best game I've played in years and as of now it is tied with P4. I seriously have no idea which to rank higher as of now. I'm gonna go back and play P4 Golden to decide which one is better.

I liked Ryuji early in the game and during his social link.

But the later into the game I get, the more annoying he's becoming. Not enough to make me dislike him, but he's definitely gotta tone it down on the blind stupid rage.

Beat it a couple nights ago at about 110 Hours. (With 10hrs+ idle time oops)

Level 79 was the average level playthrough and I finished at 70 woo underleveled!!

Super fantastic and as my FIRST Persona game, I had a really good time!

Character Rankings: (New and exciting!!)

Morgana >>> Makoto > Akechi > Futaba >> Yusuke > Haru > Ann > Ryuji

Morgana is by far my top no questions asked. Makoto is great and I actually quite liked Akechi though apparently a lot of people don't? Futaba is generally quite good as well. The other 4 are all okay but have their bad moments etc.

That segment is by far my least favorite segment of any of the Persona games. Writing gets a lot better again after it ends.

(going through it now and unsure whether I should focus on maxing stats up for NG+ (since I assume some more confidant paths are gated by high stat barriers) or more confidant stuff

I mean right now I am in the rainy season and have been using nights for bath house charm boosts (I figured it was the best time to do that due to that one tip of getting big boosts on rainy days and it seems to be the first / main time it rains at night so far)

although yeah I should probably work on temperance because I am interested in cutie maid teacher (that's her right?)

Also which one is Fortune / what do they give you (if temperance is teacher I assume she just gives me more fuck around time to boost stuff / pursue more confidants)

Don't upgrade stats until you hit a stat wall and have literally nothing else to do. There's a lot of ways to gain stats throughout the game so maxing anything early is a huge waste.

Fortune 7 is the fortuneteller in Shinjuku. Her Rank 7 lets you spend time with someone without having to spend time with someone. It can be done for 5000 gold, every day. It's exactly as broken as it sounds.

Rank 10 Temperance lets you go into dungeons/Mementos while not having to sacrifice your time (and yes, you get a lot more slacking off and free time from previous ranks as well).

She also eats up several free time segments before you even get Rank 1. It's a pain in the ass but very worth it.

Sun is also a very good Confidant, athough not in the 'save in-game time' way as Fortune and Temperance.

Just to clarify, Rank 10 Temp only salvages your nighttime activity if you go into a palace or Mementos. Your afternoon is still taken up.

Besides, Fortune is one of the better female confidants, regardless of her bonuses. Not doing her...I mean uh...her social link is a crime.

Also, despite stopping last week's NG+, part of me is getting driven back into playing from where I stopped. But then I remember I'm in grad school, and then I hate myself.

I'm almost done with the game (in December) and I've maxed everything that isn't plot-mandated. So far the standout links have been:

Hermit
Hanged Man
Temperance
Sun
Death
Hierophant

I consider those to be on a tier above the rest.

Game beated.

My overall feelings on it are really confused. The gameplay is unquestionably the best of P3/4/5, and I like a lot of stuff it does, but the things that bug me might bug me more than the other games. guess they'll have a chance to (not) fix it in Persona 5 Crimson.

Ending was hype though. Not as hype as Persona 3 because it's the best, but it blew Persona 4 out.

Question about a post-final boss scene though *spoilers*: Do all confidants you can spend time with there catch onto the fact that Joker is hiding something from them on Christmas Eve? I thought it was really cool that Makoto realized something was up and the scene ended awkwardly with her abruptly leaving. But is that because Makoto was best positioned to put the pieces together given Sae is her sister or does that happen with everyone? I could buy the other party members realizing something, but it might stretch my credibility that say, Hifumi would catch on. Also wish it was followed up on with Makoto addressing it later on, but oh well. Ending felt pretty rushed (and I mean this as everything after the 7th Palace)

Makoto best character. Trolling her with the sappy response options for her reactions never gets old.

Snap reaction would be: P3 > P5 > P4 but man I really don't know, like I said, my feelings about P5 are really confused, it shifts around that ranking all the time.

Iwai? You gain +2 Proficiency from most rank up meetings with him. It's also one of the best links, IMO.

I feel like this too. P3 and P4 felt like games that were more than the sum of their parts, while P5 feels like a game that is less than the sum of its parts. Still not sure what I think about it and I'm at the 7th dungeon!

3 does have better characters than 5 though even if it has awful Ken and Yukari mostly being terrible unless you're FeMC. I mean P5 nailed everything aside from characters and events and most people love those things way more than they like doing the dungeons

Persona 3 has the best character, Shinjiro, but so far I think P5's main characters are generally above P3's.
