Here was my hot stratz.

Ling/Orlandeau/Cecil/Refia/Y'Shtola/Friend Setzer. As much HP as you can for everyone. Keep up DEF/SPR buffs with Y'Shtola always, heal with Refia, Provoke with Cecil. Divine Ruination/Red Card to build up your Esper gauge. Ling to heal status effects. Once you've cast both Espers, try to hit one 77,777 with Double Dice. After that, just wait until he's weak to dark, then 5x Void Vessel + 1 limit break to get all rewards.

Obviously no elemental weapons on Setzer or Orlandeau.

I had 2 Setzer (one with second knife and man-eater via Diablos), Cecil, Refia, CoD, and friend Marie (100% resist to all but Dark, that was 85%, and Cura), so Marie did most of the heavy lifting. All units had as much HP as I could get for them, and no elemental weapons.

I had Setzer's doing chain attacks to build up Esper summons, Cecil kept up Focus and did his tanking, as well as backup healing if needed. Refia healed. CoD was there for Return if needed, innate resistances, and item tossing. Marie did Love You All, Dualcast Protectga/Shellga, Heal, repeat.

I started after void vessel was given, so I just had to wait until both Espers were summoned, and then send Setzer out in full force.

Edit: Very very important, you have to watch for his thresholds. The magic attack wasn't terrible, but the physical is brutal unless you can blind him at the right time. You can't seem to blind him twice, so I held off on hitting him with Cursed Card until he was about to use the second physical attack.

I think I'm officially done with the FFVI event (aside from daily quests). Anything I get from those I'll put towards more Calamity Writs, since I always seem to be low on those. Story, then back to TMRs!

With no void vessels I'm thinking of bringing in a noctis for this to exploit the weaknesses.

Got me a friend marie, tanked until I got my summons, then void vessels ate his ass.

Do you have Setzer? He can bypass the huge defense. That's how I ended up doing it. I still have mine up as a friend unit if you want to give him a go, he's non-elemental and has a good chunk of HP.

Setzer also has the ability to cheese the fight REALLY well... but he needs to be elemental. yours is good for trying to whittle him down and gradually breaking him apart with Double Dice but if you use a Setzer with an elemental weapon, Double Dice suddenly becomes SUPER cheap.

as in, "strike against the right element and you OHKO him 40% of the time" cheap.
<_< the difficulty at that point is timing your limit breaks.

Can't use him to generate Evocation Orbs if he's elemental though, need to rely on somebody else

And you are REALLY banking on your luck there. I think Kefka rotates his elements so once DD fails on the one turn it works you need to wait 8 more turns

right, you'd have to use somebody else for that job.
basically if you want setzer to build orbs and participate with extra damage - non elemental.
if you want setzer to solo the trial - elemental.

i figure since voltch's issue isn't getting orbs (since he got both summons) but killing kefka, finding an elemental setzer is more likely his solution.

edit:
specifically, DW Setzer with two elements is the best way to go if you do that route. even though one will be resisted, it's enough if you get through. so there's two opportunities to OHKO 40% of the time per cycle.

Snow (None)/Noct (Odin)/CoD (Diablos)/Refia (Carbunkle)/Y'Sholta (None) w/ Setzer Friend

Don't know if I would have rather had Golem on Snow so he could provoke, but I don't think it ended up mattering.

Setzer friend didn't end up really mattering, the only thing I used him for was to blind Kefka before his first super attack. Otherwise he was just an orb grinder.

Y'Sholta kept up Protectga/Shellga. Refia dual healed. CoD cleared statuses and kept up omiveil. Noct either took advantage of an element or put up hp/mp regen. Snow was straight orb grinding + anyone who had a free turn. Snow also got in a bunch of counters.

Evoke both, wait for dark down and then void vessel x5 + Armitger for the full clear.

I can switch my Setzer to elemental if anybody wants me to, just let me know the elements you want. I believe I can do any combination of Holy, Wind, Fire, Ice, and Thunder.

though i didn't get to hit him with a limit break, so i'll have to do that later. probably gonna find a setzer to cheese with for that, no longer need to deal with esper summoning bullshit.

if you're having trouble, use Sakura. pump her HP up and enjoy, between buffing light/dark/lightning res by 50% and having a 3 turn 20% damage reduction, she's a lifesafer. it's almost like she was specifically introduced for people.

Back to the drawing board, for some reason double slot doesn't do much damage.

Am I just applying it wrong?

? Double Dice does fixed damage, you have a 20% chance of it doing either 11, 111, 5555, 55555, or 77777. That gets multiplied if Setzer has an elemental weapon equipped that Kefka is weak to.

You mean Double Dice right?

Slot just randomly chooses 1 from 4 of Setzer's list of abilities, which can include Double Dice.

Dice and Double Dice, on the other hand, deals fixed damage. The amount of damage unfortunately, is random. There's 5 possible outcomes, so your luck is tested.

Yeah gonna switch to orlandeau and friend setzer for snow and friend noctis.

Gonna run snow, Refia, snow, setzer, Cecil and friend noctis.

Cos I simply am not doing any damage under my current setup and I don't have void vessel access.

Refia and Cecil can cover some of the healing, Heck having Refia/Cecil/Y'Shtola might be part of why I can't do much damage to begin with.

Y'Shtola isn't doing much damage. If you don't have Void Vessels and you aren't willing to tough it out with the Setzer trick, this is going to be a very hard fight for you to get all the bonuses.

Hmmm, I'll try and do it the Setzer method, but will have to come up with a solution to get the summon orbs then.


Red Card + Divine Ruination Spam is what I've been using, but that does prevent me from using Double Dice. Am I really gonna have to bring in Rydia for this.

It only took like six months, but that Halloween event finally paid off.

i stand by the idea of raising Sakura. the fight became MUCH easier with her.
my team setup was Y'Shtola, Luka, Fryevia, Sakura, Bartz, friend Setzer with a lot of HP.

Carbuncle was on Y'Shtola because of her dual cast. it allowed me to use the Bar spells + healing in one turn.
Fryevia was there to 1) guard, 2) exploit ice weakness, and 3) raise ice resistance to the party. that's it. so this is fairly expendable of a setup.
of those, Bartz was the most expendable, though Entrust to Y'Shtola or Luka was really useful sometimes. the Setzer was there for orbs and did hit 77,777 once, which did a good chunk since he was dual wielding.


if you've a friend Marie, just use her to win with ease.
if you've got CoD, use her, Omniveil + buffs makes it difficult to lose.
if neither, use Sakura. very easy to raise with all the gigantaurs since she's a story character. she won't impress statistically much so just pump her HP up to survive as much as possible (everyone had 4000+, she had 5100~ and still died the most often...) and use her light/dark/lightning buff (50% res) and the damage reduction buff (all damage, 20% reduction). she more than makes up for it and was much better than my 5* Charlotte with 5100 HP. sure, Charlotte died less. but everyone else died more.

Also, if you have twin lance, stick it on cecil. will help a bit with getting orbs.

Getting the orbs was most of the battle for me. Even with 2 Setzer's I spent almost 20 minutes trying to get the orbs.

I tried the kefka fight with Cecil / Snow / Ling / CoD / Refia with a friend Setzer. Getting the two summons can be easy enough, but after that I have to survive until he randomly decides to use Banishaga. I eventually just get run down especially after his big threshold attacks. I guess I just have to get luckier? It just feels bad that after getting the two summons you can basically still lose to RNG and it takes a while to get there.

Sacred dare easy, just run the current story missions with a few 100% trust units and you'll be swimming in them. Holy is another story, still no good place to get those.
