Thomas has like 1-2 more years before he falls off dramatically. he'll most likely be gone before Lebron due to his size. he's unusual though so maybe he can beat the odds.

I mean, Allen Iverson didn't stop being relevant until he was traded from Denver and that was when he was 32. And Isaiah has the benefit of being a young 28 (only in his sixth season). I don't think he'll fall of dramatically until 33-34.

You guys are blaming reduced interest in sports for this? Are you fucking high? Look at sports ratings, especially for playoffs. They're insane. Sports are America's #1 TV interest.

ESPN went totally political in a climate where people don't want to hear about politics (sports), and on top of that people know that the liberal snowflake culture isn't what wins in sports so ESPN was doubling down on going the wrong way. I don't give a shit what people think about Kaepernick kneeling down when everyone knows he can't okay QB.

They're also based in Nowhere, Connecticut and openly fire anyone with a conservative opinion. When you go political, you lose half your audience. When you go leftist, you lose more than half. When you're based on Connecticut and FS1 is in Los Angeles, people won't be upset about getting fired. They have a great landing spot.

I have no idea what any of that Ulti post means

I don't think you can directly compare Thomas to Iverson. he's a few inches shorter and probably not as fast? not totally sure about that last one. Thomas didn't become a bigtime player until his mid-late 20s whereas Iverson was a can't miss.

Yeah, it's a bummer to see so many people go, including some that I liked. The big issue is so many people just dropping cable altogether, so that revenue just isn't coming in as strong anymore. They're not making all that extra money from people who have the channel but never watch it.

I don't watch much ESPN myself anymore, but at least the shows I do keep up with are staying around.

I think within a decade they will have some sort of HBO Now model where cord-cutters can just pay them directly for content.

As of now you technically aren't supposed to be able to use the ESPN app for live sports unless you subscribe to a cable/satellite provider already. That will change at some point.

The saddest loss is Ed Werder. Laid off the day before the draft and his dog is about to die, and the health maladies that have affected his family.

People are going to specialty sites like Fangraphs for better coverage of the sport they like. ESPN's "Wal-Mart" approach to sports isn't cutting it anymore.

The NFL saw a decline in ratings this year, primarily because of the fact that all their superstars are pretty much 33+ years old (QBs), and the current crop of in their prime are mostly boring people (Ryan, Dalton, Flacco), or disappointments (Luck -hell be 28 at the start of next season...). Russell Wilson and Newton (who kinda disappointed last year) are the only two QBs in their prime that arent super boring, although maybe Matt Ryan entered a better tier. Some of the QBs who are like 22/23 are interesting though.

Also the decline in ratings had nothing to do with Kaepernick before some idiot says that.

idk about this. The later sure, but while they are upset, I'm not sure how many are actually angry. I mean the ones who had high profile gigs will get taken up by someone pretty quickly, and the mid level ones should find something too. People go into this knowing a tenure with one place can be limited unless you're extremely fortunate.

The decline was due to the Cubs and the election, and ratings went back to normal once those were both finished.

no it wasn't (at least primarily), the election caused some of the drop, but not all of it, or even most.
