"harsher" words like fuck, shit, bitch; specifically under 13 years of age

i was watching this shit about this family "prank" channel yesterday and the thing that immediately struck me was how readily the parents were swearing at their kid saying things like "what the fuck did you do?" (for a "prank").

now there's obviously a difference in swearing in front kids and swearing at kids but i just was thinking how much (if at all) people were concerned about this issue.

in public with kids who are not mine or related to me? not cool. respect boundaries. don't be a jerk.

but i swear plenty around my nephew and niece and no i don't think it's had an adverse effect on them

Same.

But I know which video you're talking about and they were AWFUL. Swearing AT them and degrading them is totally different than saying fuck in front of your kids imo

I don't think about this at all so I've sworn in front of people's kids a few times. I don't think kids actually notice too much when adults swear, they mostly follow how their parents and friends talk.

I talk kind of loudly and I occasionally feel bad if I let swears slip/don't notice when a kid is around. Not the end of the world but feels like you generally shouldn't do it. If we're talking actually swearing AT children, that's not cool in the fucking least.

generally I'd say don't do it

but then again almost every person I know does it

and people always swore around me when I was a kid

so yeah I dunno. I can't really control other people but I still don't do it.

Literally does not matter at all. They will hear swearing regardless, whether on tv or from others. Who cares.

Ehh, making them forbidden words makes them a forbidden fruit for kids, but teenagers and adults absolutely have a responsibility to watch their mouths around kids that aren't their own.

I would actually say it would be responsible for parents to educate their kids on when it's appropriate to say these words and when it's not, and how it's wrong to use them in a hurtful manner, and stuff.

When I was growing up, 99% of the reasons I was told not to swear were religious, which made me scared for my soul when I accidentally let slip "Oh my god" when I spilled something on the keyboard I was using. That's not good education.
