It took me until the final day to have enough money to make the first payment. I was nowhere near close to being able to pay off the second payment until I discovered by trial-and-error that patrons of the shop will be willing to buy high-priced items if I ignore everything that Tear told me about selling things at 120-130% and instead sell lower-priced stuff at barely above-market. I went from having about 5k to nearly 40k in just two days after this new strategy.

Should I keep something from every category on hand? I often get requests for stuff like hats and other items I typically do not have on hand, and I am curious if it is worth spending money to have a wide variety of item types to be able to satisfy everyone who makes an inquiry.

Also, the little girls suck. I wish that I could hang a no-children sign in my window.

once you reach a certain merchant level you can use different wallpaper and flooring which alters the atmosphere. The little girls will be less likely to come if the atmosphere is dark.

Each type of customer has an individual level. Get a lot of combos to raise it faster (requires getting them to buy at the first try, I think). It will make them more willing to buy expensive stuff. Do that early and the game will be much easier.

Also, go to dungeons during the first one or two weeks, but avoid them afterwise unless you have spare time and dont need money.

The little girls aren't a problem once you get their level higher. The trick is to "near pin" everything to make them happy. Eventually they'll have a little heart next to them that means they now have more money. Just don't try to get them to buy a 3000 px item until you've upgraded their bankroll a couple times.

Sell everything for barely over 100%. Usually around 103-104. That should land you the most near pins. It doesn't sound like much profit, but you're buying the items at about 70%, so you still make profit on them. Even when people are selling you stuff on the final day, it still usually works out in the end. Most important in the early game is the near pins and keeping your multiplier to increase your merchant level. Once that takes off, you can sell things for a greater mark-up, but since you're probably going to expand to higher priced items (which is the real reason you want to raise your merchant level,) you'll be more worried about them having more cash.

Go to dungeons only enough to unlock adventurers so you have more people in your store. The junk you get from dungeons is nice in the very early going since you didn't pay for it, so it's 100% profit instead of 30, but you also sacrifice a day to run one, so the goal isn't filling your inventory so much as completing the whole thing. (If the slime king drops anything, though, be sure to keep it.)

It's better than having a lot of a single item, to be sure.

In general, always have a lot of food. Food brings people into the store if you put it in the windows. Not sure why, but it attracts business. Don't sell junk items from the dungeons. Not worth the bother. After that, always keep a couple hats and a couple bracelets in reserve. You'll also sometimes get asked for a weapon, a book, a treasure, or something metal. Deciding what is "metal" and not, or what constitutes "something warm" is probably the hardest part of the game.

For something warm I always keep scarves on hand, all of which fulfill that. Most swords and daggers are metal which makes that one easy too.

That's not even correct. Each type of customer has a number of individual levels (like 3 or 4) and each one has to be leveled up separately (unique characters only have the one). And yeah there's no way to keep track.

Why do you need to keep track? Just keep raising the levels and they will keep up with the value of the things you are trying to sell.
