The answer is either 70 or 25 depending on if you do PEMDAS or not.

There is no "if you do PEMDAS or not"

You always do PEMDAS, sorry pal :P

The only reason is this a meme is because of the trick with the fries symbol and there being 2 fries in the middle equation but only 1 thing of fries in the bottom equation. Most people just see the fries and assume it's the same variable.

It's pretty straightforward until the double fry vs single fry and what that means enters the equation.

It's a good thing the people who invented numbers didn't model them after their food

I always do PEMDAS, it's just that some people say "i don't do pemdas so im right and youre wrong lolololol"
And after checking again, you're right, I did think the fries were the same. Whoops.

It does. It would be confusing if one number looked like two other numbers right next to each other.

It's like, is the double fry just double the single fry or are the double fry and single fries entirely different variables? They kinda stopped following math rules a bit there.

With out looking at the answer.. I think it is 25.

The soda= 10
The big mack=5
and each order of fires=2

Except there's some sort of fourth variable.

This.

Just because two fries = 4

Does not mean 1 fry = 2

That's like saying A + B = C 100% of the time

We all know that isn't true.

Shake=10
Burger=5
Fries=2

5+2*10

25

Why is this a struggle?

Why is this a struggle?

look again, in the upper equation, there are 2 packets of fries
in the third equation there is only 1 box of fries
we can conclude 1 box of fries = 1
therefore the answer becomes 5+1*10 = 15

From the way I look at it an order of fries=2.

Let me write out my thinking.

10+10+10=

10+5+5=20

5+(2x2)+(2x2)=9

5+2x10=25

It's true because it's consistent with the rest of the problem, in this case. The entire point of the problem is to use division/subtraction to figure out the value of each single variable. Just because the presentation is inconsistent (because this isn't intended to test your math skills) doesn't mean the methodology is.

This may technically be a math problem but it's closer in spirit to an optical illusion. This doesn't test if you're good at math, but if you're observant enough to notice the difference in fries.

This isn't even originally a McDonalds problem. Someone posted this last year. >_>

Sure, but you can also say that there is no solution because a picture of one order of fries isn't the same as two fries.

Since the presentation is bad, you can view it either way. Obviously coming up to the conclusion that 1 fry = 1 was the intended solution, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the only way of viewing it.

The picture says, "Solve quick if you're a genius" but geniuses are known to find multiple solutions in everything and see things from different perspectives. So if anything MY way of thinking makes ME the TRUE winner of this all!!
