Fuck that bitch too. That's exactly what we need, another open ended middle eastern conflict. We can't just blow up a few airfields and call it a day. But that's how they'll announce it. Just a few targeted airstrikes. And then some more followed by a no fly zone over the country. And you know what, maybe some ground troops in Syria just in case. All in the name of "national security". Well fuck that, and fuck every politician up their ass who votes for this.

Well to be fair, a country using chemical weapons is in violation of international law, and also the political settlement we reached with Syria under Obama. They were supposed to hand over all of their chemical weapons and the US was going to leave them alone. Now they broke our trust, so I think some punitive action is necessary.

We don't want to repeat Obama's "red line" error.

I don't even fully believe it was Assad who used the chemical weapons to be honest. He was winning, Russia was backing him, the US wasn't getting involved, he had no real reason to do something that he knows would bring an immense level of international attention and scrutiny on him.

Well that requires some evidence. Almost every source I've seen has placed the responsibility for the attack on the government, except unsurprisingly, Assad and Russia.

I know, it's just a gut feeling I have. Partially because I really don't want the US getting involved with another conflict.

Trump wants to be a President known in history, he wants World War III no matter what. Just the other day he said he'd take care of North Korea even though North Korea isn't our problem. He's picking any fight that would seem popular to Americans and right now it's Syria.

Yeah, but that's not really true though. If it's just going to be a show of force, it's not a long term thing at all. He certainly doesn't need military authorization either for a few airstrikes. There's plenty of precedent for it.

But Trump is possibly a hypocrite, point taken.

This would be the dumbest, most deadly, worst possible way to accomplish that goal. Now, we're discussing Donald Trump, so that doesn't rule it out by any means.

There are plenty of examples of punitive strikes that I can pull up if you want. I really doubt this will lead to deployment of ground troops.

To be fair, the Trumpo administration was backing down in trying to remove Assad. This was a really, really, really bad move on Assad's part. The Assad regime was beating off the rebels and the US was focusing on ISIS and not him. Things came awfully close to war last time the regime used chemical weapons and this time things may get worse.
