Aluminum bat.

Light, balanced, easy to swing, can be used to smash into buildings without breaking, doesn't require fuel or batteries, can smash bones easily which make it harder for zombies to move.

This bat with barb wire shit on TWD is an anti-human weapon, not an anti-zombie weapon.

probably something sharp and relatively easy to maintain like a machete, though a claymore would be amazing i think.

Trench spike. It's light, easy to maneuver, great for piercing skulls, and has the added brass knuckles on them for hand-to-hand combat.

A Pulaski is basically an axe on one side and a trenching tool on the other.

A bat, a hatchet/axe, or a spear are all good picks, and have non-combat utilities as well.

I used to think that baseball bats were the best melee weapon (especially if nails are hammered into them), but after watching The Walking Dead I think that a katana would be even better.

A battle axe or a spear would be useless in this kind of battle as both get stuck in the enemy's body fairly easily. This also rules out many of the more blunt swords such as a khanda.they would also tire you out much to quickly.

A mace might be a good choice, though the primary advantage of being able to clobber armor is left unutilized.

One of those fancy ball and sickle weapons ninjas use seem like they would require tons of training. In fairness, most weapons would but those things especially.

I might have to go with the mace anyway.

A sword, like a katana. Lightweight, easy to use, and properly sharpened, could cleave their rotten necks clean in half. I.E. instant re-death for a zombie.

Well, it needs to have a long reach while being durable and light. And, because zombies are usually just weak against head injuries, a blunt weapon makes more sense. A bat is definitely a great weapon in this regard. A quarterstaff is another option. Given that the quarterstaff is also practical *outside* of combat and can be used to thrust as well, I'd probably go with that.

The shortcomings with a sword are that it requires a longer stroke (since ideally you'd cut clean at which point the blade keeps going) and can get stuck, both of which make it impractical when dealing with multiple zombies at once. It'd also require more care.

I'm not sure how often spears actually get stuck like that but it's worth remembering that spears are pretty lightweight and have a large range. Granted, a stabbing weapon probably isn't the most useful thing in the world since the head is the vulnerable area.

You know, it's funny I was just about to edit and mention a quarterstaff might actually be the best option but I had to do something else instead and forgot to come back until just now. ^5

Good point about the mace being heavy. Low range can nullify that a little but low range is a problem of its own when splatter could be deadly.

Crowbar or anything with lots of durability. Sharp weapons will eventually get dull or can break more easily. Stuff, isn't so easy to get hold of in zombie apocalypse so i want reliable weapon.
