So this is the same vote they have always used. It will obviously fail because of the democrat filibuster. After that the nuclear option is likely to be deployed. Probably later today or tomorrow since they are going on recess after this week. Should be a fun day. lol

Hope he appreciates how shitty it could backfire on them in 2-4 years.

They were okay using them when they weren't in their favor as well. This is the pandora's box the scumbag democrats opened in 2013. The nuclear option was actually discussed back in the Bush admin but the republicans were the adults in the room and didn't do it then.

“If Hillary Clinton becomes president, I am going to do everything I can do to make sure four years from now, we still got an opening on the Supreme Court,” North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr said in an audio recording of his meeting with GOP volunteers on Saturday. CNN obtained a copy of the audio.

GOP Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Ted Cruz of Texas have also suggested blocking any Clinton nominees. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said in a debate Monday night that he “can’t imagine” voting for any Clinton nominee though he stopped short of vowing to block a pick from a Democratic president.

Ah move those goal posts vipa. What's that have to do with yer point that the rules were good enough before but not now? Which I addressed were indeed good enough for them before and in fact weren't good enough for the democrats.

You guys are assuming the left is ever able to take power again. And that they don't stock the court with young right wings for the next few decades.

I have a much less optimistic view of the future than the "the dems will retaliate" crowd.

A stacked court is going to reliably screw voter rights, campaign finance laws, etc the more we lose, the hard it's going to be to move the country back.

1. We're making a lot of assumptions on the death of a liberal justice in the next 3 years.
2. If the filibuster wasn't overridden this time, it would be overridden the next. Republicans won't change their mind about the utility of the nuclear option between this and the next nomination.

Were they ideologically against Garland? I remember hearing that his name was floated around, by them, before Obama even nominated him....many thought Obama simply nominated him to see what the GOP would do (I disagree with that, but it was a narrative)....I feel like their refusal to vote on him had less to do with political views and more to do with "Obama nominated him....So no...Obama Bad"...

Garland didn't even get a hearing. They didn't bother looking into his qualifications or asking him any questions. They just said "nope. Obama appointed so not happening."
