huh, so you can't ask for open borders if you're being denounced

guess there's only one other way to open their borders 8)

well, city states offer bonuses based on their type (they give either culture, science, faith, food, units) as long as you have more favor with them than other civs

if you become their ally they'll follow you to war and vote for you when the time comes to choose a world leader

Just play as Venice

It may as well just immediately end the game in your victory when you select the Doge

probably, hard to tell since I have like 100 cities right now >->

oh, I declared war on Russia so I could go through their borders, took potshots at their crossbowmen, and he ended up giving me one of his two cities and a work of art

and I found Rome, tucked all the way up in the Arctic

they get easier later on since you get to use resources from the cities you captured to keep your army going, it just takes forever to march a large army across the map

the best part about Alexander is that war weariness is never a problem so you can keep fighting as long as you have troops and money

build traders, make ALL the money, use said money to either finance wars or buy out city states to win a diplomatic victory

now, if you play Venice in multiplayer you're going to lose fast, because everyone can just go to war and pillage all your trade routes

It's 1520 and I am playing as Alexander in a large fractal map that ended up with me, Russia and Scythia as the lone civs on our land masses and 2 larger land masses with 3 and 4 civs respectively.

Russia has been defeated and and Scythia is on the ropes.

but why trade resources when you can just take them from them

but yeah, what sets Alexander apart from everyone else is that his civilization never gets war weariness, ever, but everyone else's does so even if your army isn't at 100% your soldiers will eagerly march to battle while the other civ's army will eventually get tired and your cities start suffering production penalties

I suppose that's another thing. With Alexander, you don't build wonders. You let other people build them, then you take their wonders so that your army can go back to 100% health.

1765 now, Scythia had a hidden last city so I couldn't conquer them immediately. I then entered a 200 year city modernization period. I am going to begin production for war starting this turn. I plan to take out Scythia, their last city is on the 4 civ continent so I will probably go after Pericles after Scythia is destroyed.

I found that Maria of Austriain Civ V, rivals Venice with city states, was just playing around with her and ended up with a not so great map (long snakey islands). Didnt care for the other rulers either, ( Elizabeth, Dido, Theodora, Cathrine, Isabelle, the mother of China, and Washington) though i ended up have friends with everyone but china and defensive pacts with all but isabelle and China.

only issue with Austria is that their main ability works against them for winning a diplomatic victory since you end up cannibalizing votes from yourself

it was a bigger issue with Gods and Kings since you couldn't vote for yourself, though

i generally play with a lot of mods on civ 5. i still go back some if i want a totally different or specific mod. civ 6 is pretty far beyond 5 as far as base game goes, it is a remarkably good base game. I never buy vanilla civ games, I'm normally get after the first major expansion but 6 was worth it.

End game time for Alexander. I am making 1k gold per turn on standard speed and have ~40 units in my army with most of them promotion level 2-4 and either 2 or 3 stacked.

As the saying goes in this world "The west belongs to Alexander, the East to Cleopatra." This allied duo of warmongers has laid waste to all civilizations except themselves, Saladin with 3 remaining cities an Cyrus with about 8 cities. None of Saladin's cities have any strategic value unless I really want ivory but those barbaric days are behind the great people of Macedon.

With the recent capture of Madrid and the expulsion of the vile Phillip from the globe, Cyrus's capital is a mere 2 turns from deployment. Within 20 turns Persia should be wiped off the map and the final showdown between Egypt and Macedon will begin.

Cleopatra will be a tough opponent. For the last 200 years she has been at perpetual war with Saladin, killing all his units but never attacking his cities. As a result she has many well trained troops. Her cities are all on one land mass and all entry points have at least 2 cities between the capital.

But bitch don't know about no nukes yet.

Ooooh shit. This is one of those times I feel bad on a civ game.

In 1998 the city of thebes had a population of 21. In 1999 war was declared on Egypt. In a surprise move a tactical nuke was launch on Iwnw and reduced the city from 9 to 7 population. During the same turn a thermonuclear missile was launched on Thebes and the population went from 21 to 1.

jihad your way to a cultural victory as Jadwiga:

- found religion
- build Mont St Mitchel wonder (all apostles gain martyr ability)
- create apostles
- send them off to get killed in theological combat
- farm relics
- build Cristo Redentor (removes religious tourism penalty from Enlightenment civic)

Finished my Austria game.. Only major things that happened was a war between russia and spain vs china... Nothing happened except china was dropped down to one city. Several turns later england dropped friendship and a mutual protection and started denouncing everyone... She tried to spy which caused me and every other empire to denounce her (she responded in kind...noone listened) about this time i started getting the "wearing your jeans and listen to your pop music" from a few empires.. And thats how it ended... With a culture victory.

Ended up going to war with Poland 6 (!!) times. Mind you, the last one was a war I started because they were getting real close to a science victory, so my plan was to make a beeline to their spaceports and pillage them and drop a nuke in one of their cities to stall their projects. I managed to win a cultural victory before I got to do any real damage, but my message was clear. >_>
