Watched it subbed the other night with SO. Music is good and the art and animation is goddamn fucking gorgeous.

Mitsuha is a girl who lives in the countryside who yearns to live a glorious, interesting life in Tokyo. Taki is a boy in Tokyo struggling with his new part-time job working towards a career in architecture. One day the two of them start waking up in each other's bodies. It's a few times a week for a day at a time, and they start interfering in each other's lives.

Also out in US theaters for a limited release on April 7.

I watched it on my flight back to Japan. I wouldn't say it's Shinkai's best movie, but it's good. And I can certainly understand why it became so popular.

Watched it last year when a crappy watermarked version was floating around the Internet and loved it. Going to watch it again in theaters.

Part of the body switching is when they go back in their real bodies the next day, their memories treat it like a dream and lots of information can be forgotten quickly. It's why they try to write information down for each other on their hands/arms and in notebooks and things.

That scene on the train-car when Mitsuha traveled to meet Taki broke my heart. I've never had a stronger case of the feels. And then at the very end, when they meet and sorta recognize each-other I felt so overwhelmed with joy, I felt like how that weird kid from American Beauty felt watching a plastic bag dance in wind, it made me so happy it felt like my heart was going to explode.

I cried 3 times during the movie, and only 1 of those times were tears of sorrow.

That's how I saw it, anyway. Not in their words, but actions. Years pass, and both go through life as if they're missing something, looking for something. Someone. Suddenly they spot each other through their train windows and something inside of them clicks. They get off their trains and run frantically around the area of the city searching for each other, neither quite knowing why they're looking. Finally they run into each other again on opposite ends of a set of stairs. They're nervous, excited, confused. That person is a stranger, yet both of them have the feeling of knowing the other so well and so intimately. They walk up and down the stairs, passing each other, acting as they would with any other stranger and walking by normally, both dying inside to say something. Taki calls out.

I really love well the movie captured that feeling of forgetting something that you were just thinking of. The best example would be dreams. Its crazy how you can have one of the best dreams of your life, recalling every detail the moment you wake up, and yet as quickly as an hour later those same memories will feel fuzzy and incomplete, and by the time you're ready to go back to bed you're lucky if you can remember the general gist of it.

Really good movie.

Regret watching it in this shit quality. Didn't get to appreciate the animation. It looked gorgeous in the trailer. It looked like shit in the version I was watching.

You can tell this Shikai guy who makes these movies missed out on teenage love in high school and he's trying to relive it through his work.

I thought it was cute as fuck the girl was setting him up on dates with the brunette lol. But the brunette seemed a lot older than him.

Also lol'd hard at how the dude felt himself up every time he was the girl. Dude only stopped when his little sister barged in. Who knows how long he goes at it for. He's prolly like, okay 5 mins for now, and then he gets carried way.

The ending was still pretty sad. Even though they'll probably like each other and get married or something, it's still sad knowing that their memories are gone. I mean it's the directors way of explaining deja vu, coincidences, and familiarity which is pretty cool. But damn, I wish they remembered. Still though, out of the 3 japanese animes i've watched that are like this (garden of words and the girl who leapt through time being the others) this one had the "happiest" ending.

But these type of movies ultimately make me feel like shit because of how much I missed out in high school.
