These days a much smaller portion of the population farms, and with modern implements such as tractors with headlights, daylight isn't as important as it once was.

That's the Hopi Reservation, a small enclave of land surrounded by, but separate from, the Navajo Nation.

Parts of Navajo land extend into Utah and New Mexico, where DST is observed, so it's observed in the entire territory to keep it consistent across.

It's now for work hours and school hours, so we aren't sending kids to school while it's dark out and so we aren't at work when the sun is setting (based on normal hours)
