User reviews are important, but for any big game there are a lot of troll scores.

On GameFAQs I tend to ignore 0.5 stars for blockbuster games, so BotW is a 9.5 game instead of a 9.1.

Okay, but there are "troll scores" that go the other way too (giving a game 5 stars when it doesn't deserve it is also trolling, isn't it?)

a) It's less likely for good games (like are there any average games where there's a second peak at 5 stars)
b) A score of 0.5 affects a game's average by more than a 5 stars rating

People personally identify with games ratings so by reducing (or increasing) a rating you can literally attack or support a group of people. Yes it's weird as f*** but that's how it is.

You could argue that the type of people that buy and rate Zelda games are Zelda fans and thus you are getting the rating of a pro-Zelda crowd. That isn’t exactly trolling as it is poor sampling.

trolling doesn't always make sense either. sometimes trolls just do stuff that is seemingly random and has no real purpose. I mean, I've certainly done things that had no meaning behind them. they don't always get a reaction either so it's one of those things that... just happens, not always possible to identify, and the troll might keep doing it anyway even if it doesn't get any airtime.

Mathematically these would not be equivalent at all. Let's say you have 10 7/10s.. a 70/100. Average? 70%

Case A) Troll comes in, adds a 1/10. Now you've got 71/110, or 64.5%

Case B) Fanboy comes in, adds a 10/10. Now you've got 80/110, or 72.7%


Whichever # you're closer to, the less you affect the average. If the baseline I used was 50% then yes you'd be right. In the actual case of being +90%... the affect is drastically minimized (while maximized on the reverse action). That's how averages work, anyone that's tracked their grades in a class would know this.

Yes, I've beaten Ocarina and Majora's Mask. Ocarina is a snoozefest and I can only laugh at people claiming it's "best game evurrrrrr," Majora's Mask is actually creative and thus way better.

50 is the average of the numbers 0 -100, but that doesn't mean it's the average of any 100 point scale.
I don't know how Bulgaria handles it, but in US schools grades are on a 100 point scale, but the average score is 75. I think game reviews skew higher than a 50 average as well.

I actually haven't played either of them, but I agree about MM from what I've heard, read and seen. it does indeed look very creative and interesting story-wise, while Oot just to me looks like "another typical loz but 3d this time."

are those the only ones you've played? the older handheld ones are all very good imo. Link's Awakening, oracles and minish cap. the DS/3ds ones don't look appealing to me because I don't like stylus controls. lttp is good, but I like the handhelds I mentioned better. wind waker was neat but sailing got old and inconvenient quickly. TP looked awesome but I haven't played it. SS I only watched a little bit from. I know nothing of this new one.

Or to put it this way: we have many games that score in the 90's. If gaming score of average was 50%, we should expect a similar amount of games scoring in the 10's based on reviews.

... This goes with the assumption that the "actual" score for Zelda would be 50. When I picked 70% I don't pick it to suggest that's the "unbiased" rating, I pick it as a simple demonstration of averages. I also mentioned what would happen at 90%, which is more in line with the actual ratings the game is getting (factually, an even lower approximation).

honestly changing weapons and ammo so often is frustrating and the control scheme seems a lil counter intuitive. If you have that big ol touch screen, why not map your weapons and inventory onto that?

I'm playing on a Pro Controller and am still not 100% used to the controls. Every button does something. You need to effectively manage both R buttons, both L buttons, the D-Pad, and two face buttons in order to really excel at the combat. Guess I'm just a s***tier gamer nowadays, but it's a lot to handle at once.

Honestly, I went in without knowing anything and I like it. It's definitely different, but it's actually challenging, especially for a Zelda game

Plus I haven't really been all that bored yet though when I beat it I dunno how long it will be until I replay it
