I like how he made a tag match before he was even in power. I literally burst out laughing in the backstage seg where he said "mixed TAG-TEAM MATCH!"

(1) Rewatched it now, and I gotta say I liked the finish to the main event of Smackdown, I mean it made Ziggler looked pretty good (he could've gotten that pin... had it not been for that meddling Sheamus) (2) Where's Sin Cara? (3) I see people on youtube thinking Tyson Kidd's getting pushed, but really, I think they're just counting on him to be the MITB spot monkey this year. (4) Where's Wade Barret? (5) Is it just me or is Hunico a heat machine? Everytime he comes out on Superstars, all I hear is the voracious boos of the crowd and I don't know if it's my own biases amplifying things, but it sounds to me like he does his job & does it good. He's gotta get a MITB qualifying match on Tuesday...
token puro guy in the top 10 will likely be tanahashi
he held the IWGP heavyweight championship (which they tend to give the most weight) from the beginning of the ranking period (reign started january 4th) until february 12th, successfully defending it a record 11 times, and then won it back two weeks ago. it was the second longest reign in the title's history.
another guess would be jun akiyama, who has held the AJPW triple crown since october 23rd
On the flip-side of that, it's kinda mind-boggling that Daniel Bryan of all people has been one of the best-handled, well-managed talents in the last five years.

From: Jakyl25 | #246 Okay so I'm gonna back off my Aries prediction too.
Except in 1997 when they went with Malenko #1 as an experiment, and in 2002 when RVD got #1 by demolishing the midcard when the WWE main event scene was in constant flux and no competition existed (literally it hit the perfect timeframe between the death of WCW and birth of TNA), no one has sniffed that close to #1 without at least holding the top title in their company.
Here are my revised predictions for the Top Nine Wrestlers from American feds. History shows that there's always at least one Japanese guy (or Mexican in the case of Mistico) somewhere in the Top Ten (but no more than two!), so I'm leaving that spot open for people with more knowledge of that subject than me.
#1: CM Punk Most days as a World Champ, most relevant wrestler of the last year, defended the title at Wrestlemania
#2: Bobby Roode Longest World Title reign of the year, won BFG Series, Main Evented BFG
#3: Sheamus Won World Title at Wrestlemania, won Royal Rumble, Can count losses on one hand
#4: Daniel Bryan Won MitB Briefcase, Lengthy reign as Champion, poor first half of period
#5: Austin Aries Longest X-Division Champion ever, status grew continuously throughout period, Can count losses on one hand
#6: Kurt Angle Defended World Title in Main Event of Bound For Glory, 2 Tag Title wins, Lost feud with Storm
#7: Mark Henry Dominated Randy Orton to win and retain Title, Hall of Pain became more than a marketing gimmick, Disappeared in Final Half
#8: Davey Richards Longest title reign of any kind during the year, Carried company during corporate changeover, sparse amount of defenses for most of reign
#9: John Cena 3 quick stints as World Champ during the period, Main Evented Wrestlemania (and most PPVs in which he appeared), More losses than usual for him in a year This looks ABOUT right, but I CANT take Punk over Roode. His reign just is too irrelevent to make it mean more than Roode's no matter WHAT the math is.

yeah, kayfabe is weighted to punk pretty heavily there. just better talent.
(3) I see people on youtube thinking Tyson Kidd's getting pushed, but really, I think they're just counting on him to be the MITB spot monkey this year.
it's both. Kidd is the spot monkey, but he's got a big win on SD and will be really, really good to see in MITB. people will want more of him and i can see them moving towards one of the midcard belts. i'd much prefer him holding the US Title over Santino right now. hell, Kidd vs. Christian could be good too but i don't see them moving the belt from Christian... nor do i know who he's feuding with.
could see a Kidd vs. Cody feud happen though. that'd give both something to do.

It doesn't matter the card placement. Successful defenses against Styles, Hardy, Storm, Bully, RVD, Sting, and Anderson vs. successful defenses against Cena, Miz, Del Rio, Dolph, Jericho, Bryan, Henry, Kane, and an Elimination Chamber. That's an edge to Punk.

Though I suppose that could move into a feud with Kidd, if they're like the last two guys on the ladder. Wade started a mini-feud with Bryan last year after MitB more or less for that very reason.

well yeah, Miz is absolutely amazing at making people over. but i don't think it'd work again with Kidd right now, especially if he's doing Marine 3. it doesn't do Cody any favors, i get that, but it'd be similar to Dragon/Sin Cara in the sense of Kidd could get over a bit. remember that losing streak dragon was on for a while before advancing into the ME, over coincidentally... winning a match against Kidd.
he's the secret sauce of handling!

That was the basis for a match they had last year on SD, just a couple of weeks before Henry started picking on Bryan. It was right about when that HBK/Bret DVD was coming out and they had a backstage segment about it.

...awkward.
Wait I saw that
That guy molested him as a child? O_o I thought it was just a..random molester.

He was really relevant for a month and has been the like 3rd or so most relevant guy in his own company.

Yeah but he was more relevant for that one month than anyone has been in years.

I still feel christian is the mega-obvious winner of the SD MitB. Cody doesnt NEED the briefcase when hes been making such solid gains naturally and poking through too early could set him back big long-term.
Christian on the other hand, there is an interesting character dilemma this presents. Sheamus is the current Randy Orton. Can he really continue being a good guy when presented with his chance to get that title he once coveted so much is RIGHT THERE for the taking. I think its potentially the most interesting winner plot they can run for either match so far.
Ziggler is interesting as a winner as well considering the recent trajectory of his push, where it feels like hes SO CLOSE and just needs that little something to push him over the top and this could be that thing.
Cody on the other hand....eh. Im not feeling it as an extension of his current character.

Agreed. I've always loved the idea of Christian + MitB since it's the physical manifestation of ONE. MORE. MATCH.

Oh, that would be a good character idea for Christian. Didn't really think of it like that.
But standing firm on Cody winning. Seems like a classic heel way for them to do it. Loses his chance, politics his way back in, then ends up winning the thing.
You guys are probably right in that it's more interesting character-wise for Christian to win (though I think Cody can do a lot with it too), but I just want Cody in the main event, so whatever.

Cranky Vince ‏@CrankyVince I HATE F***ING FIREWORKS. F*** FIREWORKS. F*** YOU.
By the way, I may have figured out who CrankyVince is. He's got a s*** ton of favorites of this guy, going back pretty far. In fact, this is practically the only person who's tweets he favorites: https://twitter.com/#!/KevinEck_WWE
It's someone who works and travels with WWE, so he'd see Vince on a daily basis, and he'd know about Paul Heyman coming back before we did.

Cody definitely seems a safer bet than Christian. If there's one recurring theme it's that briefcases are tailor-made for heels to win and cash in on vulnerable, otherwise-nigh-undefeatable faces. Heck, even when Daniel Bryan won and cashed in he started heeling it up afterwards... so, Cody or Wade for sure.
I guess Cena is still the pick to win the other one but he'd be all noble and declare that he's cashing it in for the Summerslam main event.
EDIT: forgot about Ziggler, he could still qualify and win it.
Cena and Show have each other, and they've been hyping up how it took five other wrestlers for Cena to beat Show so (I can't believe I'm saying this) hopefully that means they've got another fight left in that feud at Summerslam. That would leave Kane and Jericho, who both have connections to Punk. But they've also already fought Punk multiple times this reign, so...

Hey, I was weighing a theoretical scenario in my mind, I'm curious what everyone thinks would happen.
A random wrestler in a MITB ladder match is set to have a spot where they slowly meander to the middle of the ring and slowly climb a ladder before somebody stops him.
This random wrestler, however, has a contract that's expiring in a few weeks and due to rarely being on TV (and jobbing when he is) doesn't see himself being re-signed. So, he sees the opportunity to stick it to the WWE: instead of doing everything slowly, he races in and up the ladder, and grabs the briefcase before anyone can react or comprehend what is happening. Suddenly you have a no-name soon-to-be-endeavoured shlub with a championship contract.
What would the WWE response be? I'd assume he'd be fired on the spot but what would happen in kayfabe? You can't announec that so and so was fired because they went off-script....
What kayfabe reason would they give for the person leaving with a MITB contract in hand? Would they do a repeat ladder match on the next Raw/Smackdown or the next PPV? Or would they just pretend there's no MITB contract, like, forget the match ever happened and we never see that person on tv again? Does everyone need to sign contracts before PPVs ensuring they won't do such-and-such otherwise they'd be sued for breach of contract? .....is there one person in a truck with his finger hovering over a button to raise the MITB briefcase, not unlike the briefcase in the McMahons vs. Austin ladder match at KOTR '99?
