Eh, those at least have a large demographic of people to feed on who are not incredibly internet savvy. Gaming magazines just baffle me, however, seeing as the demographic they cater to is naturally going to be the demographic least likely to subscribe to magazines, or at least not rely on a magazine to keep up to date on their interest.

no, it's a combination of a really rough spring semester, dropping my LCS because they raised rates and now charge for bag & board, and transferring to a new location of the bookstore i work at which doesn't carry any tpbs. after severely slacking on my comics in the spring, i've dropped all but a handful while thinking about ordering from dcbs

Saga is great stuff, didn't read Manhattan Project, Never heard of Cooper! LDB probably stands for something obvious I'm forgetting.

Grabbing DHP this week for Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Noto's Ghost. Can't wait for that ongoing.

Uncanny and Chew are great stuff, already following those.

You should really give Dial H a try! Also, Mind the Gap is another great one that just started. The Luna Brothers have a new comic as well, Whispers.

EDIT: Oh wait Whispers isn't new, Luna Brothers comics just take like 3 months between issues. Ugh. Glad I read all their other stuff after it was done.

Is Hickman's Ultimates worth getting into if you don't know anything at all about Ultimate Reed?

the extent of my ultimate universe knowledge is like 50 issues of ultimate spider-man and the first 4 issues of miles morales spider-man. hickman isn't a slave for continuity, regardless.

I may have to give it a shot. Wood's also starting his X-Men and Ultimate X-Men runs, his first X-Men issue was great.

Rumor has it he's already gonna be taken off X-Men soon though, for the BENDIS TAKEOVER.

That gives Hickman and Remender control of Avengers supposedly, though, so it's worth it.

Honestly anything is an improvement after this AvX clusterf*** garbage. The worst thing Marvel has done in like a decade.

I got a friend who has never read comics to buy Animal Man and now he's got a bunch of other New 52 trades he's planning on buying/has bought. Feels good.

But then one of the ones he said he was planning on buying was Suicide Squad and I was like "Boy we need to talk".

that mark waid AvX digital comic was really cool, I thought. it obviously wasn't predictive of the eventual quality of the event, but a really interesting take on storytelling. you read his free prototype on his site, right? it was kinda like that, but swap out developmentally disabled protagonist and zombies for nova and a race against time.

I can't imagine a fan of Animal Man liking a lot of the other New 52 books. Swamp Man, Frankenstein, Batwoman (until JH Williams stopped drawing it) maybe, but Lemire doesn't have a lot of comparables at DC

Lemire started writing Justice league Dark last issue as well, he's really getting out there. His Lost Dogs GN gets a reprint tomorrow, too. And J.H. Williams will be back on Batwoman soon, Trevor McCarthy has an arc starting tomorrow.

And he's never read comics before, so just because he like AM doesn't mean he won't like some others.

I can only imagine that these are the kinds of books he WANTS to write. Based on the shoddy release schedule of things like Powers and Scarlet, it's almost as if he doesn't enjoy writing what he's best at.

I started reading the Clone Saga TPBs recently too.

They don't seem so bad!

Granted I'm only up to vol 2 and the whole thing goes on for 5, plus 5 more volumes of "The Ben Reilly Saga" which is really still part of what people generally consider to be the Clone Saga.
