Good lord, an annual pass is practically mandatory at this point. I feel sorry for out-of-state families trying to visit for one day. Between tickets, food, and merchandise, it can probably start creeping close to a grand.

Seems that way. I had been wanting to go for a while since I haven't been there in like 15 years (my last visit predated Fast Pass), but at that price, it's not flippin likely.

Huh, I was having pretty much the exact same conversation with someone earlier today. Not with the exact percentages, but about how much the fares have gone up over time.
Good lord, that's dire. I love theme parks to death, but I could never justify that.
Depending on how many days you go, Universal Studios is either much better or a hell of a lot worse. If you go 4 days, it's about $40 per day - certainly not bad by any means, especially since you get access to both Universal parks. If you go for 3, it's about $51. But if you only want 1 day? $123.
$123. For one person. Yikes.

$123. For one person. Yikes. Huh, that's an interesting way of structuring it. As far as big-name theme parks and attractions go, I was pretty sure Disney was/is the worst by a long stretch. My parents went to Universal Studios Hollywood a while back and they were offered annual passes for the price of one day's admission at the door. The San Diego Zoo also offers a 2-person annual pass for like $150, which is an absolutely incredible deal for local residents, as it comes with four additional free passes.

luckily my cousin's girlfriend works for a company that's owned by disney so she's allowed to take 3 guests in for free.
She's taken me once. It was Sunday night before finals, so I got to watch Fantasmic, ride Indiana Jones, Space Mountain twice, and Star Tours all in three hours.
it was awesome
I think we're going again in September when my girlfriend comes to visit from Korea. Yessssss connections
Yeah, as a former SoCal resident, I know a few people with connections who go all the time. My aunt works for Disney so we used to go for free often when I was a kid. Despite not having gone back in years, I got to visit a lot during childhood though, so I can't complain.
A couple friends who went recently told me that the place seemed a lot smaller and lamer when experiencing it as an adult, so I guess I took advantage of the most important Disney-visiting time frame.

Well, part of that increase comes a result of inflation. Even if you could normalize those prices for inflation, I'm sure the 2012 price would still be higher than the 1982 price.

Yeah, before the time I went with my cousin and his gf, it had been something like 6 or so years. I can't imagine going more than three times a year. I guess it's a cool place to hang out if all your friends have annual passes or something, but ehh.
In that case I'm not surprised. I hear it's a lot better. I'm heading down to Orlando pretty soon so I hope Disney World's prices haven't skyrocketed like that. <_<
I honestly never understood the attraction of Disneyland to anyone past 10 unless you have children, but then again my knowledge of it is that it's a gigantic crowd with people in mascot costumes that you take pictures with and that's it.
From: Weakupedia | #017 Disneyland just has a great atmosphere. Places like Six Flags and Knott's Berry Farm don't quite compare. Yep, that's the selling point. If you're a fan of atmosphere (or Disney in general), the Disney parks are just a tier above anything else. I enjoy slower, more atmospheric rides much more than rollercoasters, and I like Disney characters/locales, so Disneyland is easily the best park I've ever been to. I don't think there's a rollercoaster on the planet that can top Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Tours, Haunted Mansion, and Indiana Jones for me.
The problem is that Disney knows it (the Disneys in Florida and Cali are easily the two most visited theme parks in the world) and price admission out the wazoo.

I've never actually been to Disneyland/World, but even among big theme park buffs, they're considered some of the best parks out there. Especially Tokyo Disneyland, which is regarded as the absolute cream of the crop.
For my money, though, I doubt they top Holiday World or Busch Gardens. AWW YEAH

Theme parks >>>>>>>> amusement parks.
Riding on rollercoasters and thrill rides is fun, but excellent theming is what makes a park great.

Even if it doesn't have as many rides, my favorite is still Epcot. There's just an amazing feel to it. So yeah, hoping prices haven't gone as crazy in Orlando.

Hey, its that SuperNiceDog! Congrats to the Guru 2011 winner
I used to live in Orlando and we had seasonal passes cuz we lived like 10 minutes away from Disney World. I was too small to do many of the rides though (was slightly too small to do Tower of Terror, and to this day I have still never done it).
But $87 doesn't seem THAT crazy. King's Dominion is like $50-60 for 1 day and it's way less "prestigious" as Disneyland.

Protip: Don't buy a 2-park pass if you are only going for 1 day since you won't be able to do everything anyway. Single park single day is still $88 but yeah.
My sister's class did their senior trip at Disneyland. She said kids from the ghetto schools in LA always cut in line; they even saw one of them pull a knife on another kid to cut ahead. It sounded like a pretty bad night, unfortunately.

as someone who lives in orlando I can tell you the basic theory is that people outside of florida only come to disney/universal for huge vacations where they know they are spending tons of money, so they can charge whatever. people who live in florida, however, can get pretty good deals that make going relatively affordable.

Louisiana or Los Angeles? >_>
