This information comes from a long-time reader that has been very trustworthy with information. I don't want to give out there name, as I want to keep them safe. Just believe me when I say that info they've given us in the past has been spot on.
- Wii U will be 'about $300) - expect the big push for Wii U to kick off in September - Nintendo Land will 'definitely' be a pack-in - don't expect a digital version since the physical copy will be packed in with each box
Honestly, it could be $200 and I would still have no interest in it, especially after reading that cracked article which really put things in perspective.
that's a pretty great price - I'm definitely comfortable with buying this at launch now.
of course, I don't expect others to jump on this because of that, since the software so far is really lacking. but I know the future will have games I want, so I'm fine with spending 300 for a Pikmin machine for the moment

yeah people are disappointed there's no heavy hitters here, but at the same time it's really Nintendo's best launch lineup since Gamecube.
Well, people are disappointed that New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land are the two big launch titles from Nintendo, and old third-party games they've already played. Nintendo will have to convince people that $300 is worth it versus the cheaper, more popular 360 or PS3. Nintendo did a rather poor job of getting people excited about the future of the system--what it has coming out after launch and beyond--and that leaves them naturally skeptical.

Haha, that Cracked article was terrible. Only one of the points actually was worth pointing out, the others were just "I'm a hardcore gamer and people should be catering consoles to exactly what I want". I mean, one of the points will literally be able to be fixed by turning a feature off, like a simple "Yes/No" option.
I still don't think I'd be hyped at all even if it were $200.
3DS feels a lot more promising right now

I actually wrote up a great rebuttal of that Cracked article, so I'll just post that here:
All of those points can be pretty easily taken down, though.
5. They're hiring dudes to take care of it beforehand, and hiring someone to be a "penis-tracker admin" isn't really all that different than a message board or blog having a guy going through the comments/posts/being a mod. (note: Reggie did an interview which clarified how this would work, but still, it's like having a community manager, which is something that all three console developers have already)
4. If you don't like the social networking stuff, turn it off. Facebook has proven that there's a large contingency of people who like their games to be social, and they're not gonna require it to be on, so just turn it off.
3. Most launches as of late have had a bunch of ports. Nintendo is just focusing on them more, because they're bigger games. Again, if you think it's dumb, don't buy them. (note: Remember the N64 launch? Two games. Sure, they were both pretty good, but there were two of them.)
2. This is just dumb. It adds to the tension and strategy to not pause the game when you're looking in a box/at a corpse for stuff, and it's a great use of the controller.
1. It's not like the controller is replacing one of the controllers that's already there. If you have 5 friends, right now one dude would just be sitting there watching, but now he's actually doing something. Plus, if you have a younger kid, who might not be able to do stuff otherwise, he can actually help out instead of impotently poking at buttons.
No one is forcing any developers to use the touch screen. It's an optional tool. That's why the Pro Controller exists. The article author's anger over someone playing NSMBU or Rayman being forced to be a third/fifth wheel is completely unfounded.

They never forced anyone to use the DS touch screens. They never forced anyone to use motion controls.
The reason mainline games didn't get ported to the Wii is not because of some incompatible mandate from Nintendo that you MUST use motion controls, but because the hardware just couldn't match the 360 and PS3.
That'll probably happen eventually to the WiiU too but for now it's not really an issue.

That's total BS. You honestly think Nintendo is saying to its developers "Use it if you want to, if not DATS cool :) "
Naivety.
man
did people already forget the upad has another feature? streaming games to the controller screen - ever think about that? you can't use the touchscreen gimmicks when you're using the upad screen as the game screen, so they HAVE to make "classic" control versions
Ahhh but there's the rub, SHINE. GMUN already explained this.
Since one of the functions of the screen is streaming games TO the screen, and since UNLIKE the Wiimote-ClassicController relationship the buttons involved are EXACTLY THE SAME, it stands to reason that any games that aren't specifically created to be touchscreen demos will have a Pro Controller option almost by default.

Use your heads guys, come on. They pretty much said this outright in the beginning of the presentation
difference between Wii Classic Controller and U Classic Controller is that the UPad has everything the U Classic Controller Pro does
default Wii controls can't support CC controls, so if devs want to use CC controls, it means that it's necessary to have the add-on controller
with U, the default controller (the pad), has everything the Classic controller does, so if you want to make a classic game it's not necessary to purchase the add-on controller

I definitely interested in what the Wii U will provide later down the line, but I don't think I can bring myself to pay $300 to endure a slow stream of releases (again). The 3DS is looking MUCH more promising for the next couple of years, so I'll probably just get my Nintendo fix from that for now. >_>

Really? No one sees any flaw with this logic?
For the way most games are adding on touchscreen gimmicks (Arkham City for example, as cited in the Cracked article), no I don't see any flaw with that logic.
For something like Rayman's use of the touchscreen? Yeah I can see where you're coming from, but I'm fairly certain that Ubisoft has Pro Controller support for the game, considering that the in-game tutorial graphics use a Pro Controller as their model.
