I'm going to reward people for guesses now. For every 5 correct guesses, you can give me one NFE Pokemon and I'll tell you where it would end up in the rankings.
I honestly wasn't a huge fan of Dewott at first glance. I admit I have a prejudice against middle evolution forms. They tend to rarely capture the cuteness of the base form, or the badassery and longevity of use that the final form sees. Therefore, I never really gave Dewott a second look, despite Oshawott being my starter. Dewott on the other hand has the ability to do what most middle evolutions should do, but completely fail at. It was still cute, though looked like it could **** you up. If for some reason Oshawott wasn't the starter, I think it would have been satisfactory to have Dewott be the final evolution. I don't know if I should blame Dewott or Samrott for the two not looking anything like one another, but that bugs me more than anything.
That's just in comparison to the fully evolved forms. I won't say if it would have cracked the top 50 had this been a 649 ranking, but it is a high quality Poke.
Oddish is one of the better Grass Pokemon out there. It's good because I don't feel like the designers were trying too hard. Too many grass Pokemon are either too ugly, too "pretty", or just has grass stapled on an animal. Oddish is just cute and looks natural. It's not terribly high on my list. It kind of bothers me when I don't see how it could use stuff like Vine Whip, but I guess that's picky. Even Misty wanted one (lol I get dibs because it's near the water lol). Also, I love how Nuzlocke portrayed Oddish...

You would literally rank this unsmoked joint over Meganium, Torterra, Leafeon etc.?
Wow Gerbil WOW!
Wait, I have right to one NFE placement since I have 6, right?

Vulpix is cute but it borders on too cutsey for my tastes. It also bugged me that Brock had one. Zubat bordered on Brock's theme, but then Vulpix just came out of left field and felt dumb. I know Brock apparently says something like "Vulpix was never really mine" but screw that, he trained it forever, it was his. I remember having a KFC plushie of Vulpix which was better than the others I remember (Zubat and Seel were the best you could think of from Gen 1, really?) I don't want to say too much more since Ninetales hasn't been revealed yet.
Pidgeotto is a Pokemon that I don't really get the love for. I assume it's from the anime, but it never really did much. The only stuff I really remember it for is being the scout/Rocket balloon popper/smokescreen clearer and doing well (but ultimately tying) against Misty's Starmie. As soon as Ash got the starter trio, Pidgeotto fell into the background. At least Butterfree got laid after he lost screentime, Pidgeotto just kind of stopped doing anything until the Earth Badge battle (granted it's been a long ass time, so I may not remember a few things), in which Ash uses Pidgeotto against Rhydon (god damnit Ash). I don't even recall it doing anything noteworthy in the Indigo League. He could have at least used Pidgeotto in Erika's gym, it's no wonder Ash caught it before his first gym and it didn't evolve until after the league. Regardless I guess these are more Ash being a dumbass than anything else. Still, I always thought Red should have had a Pidgeot(to) in HG/SS at least (seeing as how they replaced Espeon with Lapras, of all things). Design-wise, Pidgeotto isn't really anything offensive, but I don't think there's much special in there either. It fills the role of early route generic bird evolution from the first game in the series well enough, I just don't think it shines at all. Though admittedly it was a beast in Yellow when you could catch it in Veridian Forest.
Shinx up next. Tried to be fair and give mnk and Suor one tonight at least.

Oh man, I had all of those (with Dratini being the fourth). I also had one of those "gold-encased" Pokemon cards from Burger King that came in that fancy Poke Ball. Mewtwo, I believe it was.
But if you think Vulpix is trying too hard to be cute, you're probably one of those people that dislikes Shinx for the same reason.
It ranks a good bit higher than Vulpix... I never really thought of them as similar. I can't really explain it, I like Shinx's type better and his coloration. Somehow it seems less girly than Vulpix to me. The thought of it having intimidate is also pretty hilarious. I don't have any anime or KFC memories to draw upon, so maybe Vulpix was spoiled for me a while ago. I don't want to say much more since Luxray hasn't been revealed.
Upcoming: 277.It has less limbs than it's pre-evolutions 276-A Scumbag Gym Leader or Elite 4 member used it, despite it not being their "type" 275-This Pokemon is ALL woman

Literally below the joint.
I...can't tolerate this any longer.

Owls are cool birds. Hoot Hoot is definitely my favorite of the starting evolutions of normal/flying types (that's a mouthfull of a title), and he's just cool. It's really the only nocturnal bird and I like the use of Day/Night aspects of the game. It's cute and simple and gets the job done. Maybe I should have waited until I ranked more so I could say more and not risk spoiling when others will come up <_<.
Talk about disappointment. When I first saw "Smugleaf" I thought "man, I may actually go with a grass starter this time". Then I saw Smuggernaut and said "oh... Oshawott it is". I know it's supposed to be a grass snake, but I don't like the progression. I would have preferred a big Servine with more grassy features or something, anything but a big snake. How can a big smug snake cross it's arms? Perfection for Ash's team this generation would be Emboar, Dewott, Snivy, and it seems like this is actually something that might happen. Serperior isn't very good in battle either. Typical NU Leech Seed Substitute build, nothing really special here.
Oh. I should mention my list is only based on design, battle practicality is not factored in.
Otherwise I'd have to rank poor Serperior a lot lower. It really does kind of blow in battle sadly. >_> Shame that. Only fully evolved Grass starter that isn't ugly as sin. Torterra's a special case. Like Feraligatr, it's ugly in an awesome intimidating way- not just let's put warts on its face to distinguish it from its cuter prevos for no good reason way Venusaur.
