Posted this on the Diablo board too, but looking for opinions. Got this for 20k on the auction house, how much should I try selling it for? (Either gold or real money) It's chest armour.

Death Conclave
756 Armour
+82 Strength
+31 Dex
+41 Int
+71 Vit
+51 Lightning Resistance
+313 Armor
2 sockets

That doesn't seem very good. The armor is good, and the sockets are nice, but the stats are really low. i'm sure you can get some decent gold for it though.

Put two Dex gems in it so that the dex = at least 100 and I bet you could flip it for at least 500k. With the Dex and Strength you are looking at almost 1000 armor from a single piece, which is fantastic even if the stats aren't incredibly high.

The reason I wouldn't go strength, by the way, is that most barbs wouldn't really care about a non resist all piece. Vit might also be a gemming choice.

Anyway as an update on my own Auction house adventures I sold a neck I found in Act I with IAS/LoH/Lots of Vit for a total back to me of 1.6 million, which doubled my gold amount since I had been spending a lot of it. That was good to wake up to.

Stash (and gold) is shared in account

The hatred for Diablo 3 is extremely intriguing. I've mostly heard unfair arguments against it, and a couple of fair ones. Most commonly, people are pissed off that it's different than Diablo 2

The best arguments against it (IMHO) have to do with the gameplay of the game. One main one is that the gameplay is too static; that is, you never find an item and think, oh my god I need to rearrange my whole gameplay style now. The items are all just bigger numbers. As Yahtzee said, it's a game about falling into a routine and sticking with it. On the other hand, since skills/builds are so easy to modify on a whim, the gameplay is even more changing and adaptive than other ARPGS, so that's an improvement. Another good argument is that it's too easy on normal, and there's nothing you can do to avoid it. Even if you start a new class, you have to work through normal again, and unless you're trying to play fast, that's hours and hours of time before challenge begins to show. On my current wizard, I'm almost done with normal and haven't used a potion yet.

There are also some okay arguments about drop rates being low or unsatisfying, but I'm not sure that there's enough evidence to back it up, and if its true then the real problem is that there aren't enough interesting attributes on items, which ties in with the above points. If there were more interesting rolls happening when an item is generated, they could kick up the drop rates more, since there is more potential variety.

Ulti , people's biggest problems are

1. Nostalgia is a B Word. They were young when D2 came out and only remember the youthful joy we got from video games at that age. From what I hear D2 was patched a bunch to make it the amazing game it was. never played so I can't tell which one was better before patches.

2. Gaming Forums ruin gaming. I saw a guy made a topic saying he got a refund after 100 hours because the game was disappointing. YOU PLAYED FOR 100 HOURS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT. Then there's the guy complaining because people can just buy the best items because they have more money without seeing the irony that they can obtain better items by having more time.

3. The only legit complaint I've seen is that They butchered drop rates and made Inferno obscenely unfair with its random affixes which forces people to go the auction house but since theres a real money auction house that allows players to profit no one sells good items on the Gold Auction House for a reasonable price which forces you to sell items to get money on your blizzard account which you use to purchase the items you want and Blizzard makes a profit off of every transaction so Blizzard basically found a way to make a monthly fee.

So something I've never understood about auction houses in games, particularly what I'm hearing here with RMT...the solution to getting money in all games is "sell on the AH." And yet that mantra is repeated so often that it's hard to imagine it being a zero-sum system. It's like the AH magically creates money out of nowhere if everyone is supposed to get their money there. I had that impression with WoW, for sure, and now it sounds like everyone (in this thread at least) is making bits of money off the RMT. I know a fool and his money are easily parted, but who the hell is buying?

I know a fool and his money are easily parted, but who the hell is buying?

people who don't want to wait until they random their own gear? Certain stats are and item types are more "marketable" and move easier.

Everyone needs rings for instance, so rings do pretty well.

And people who don't understand EXACTLY how stats work and precisely how they contribute to DPS and effective HP will typically take awhile to understand precisely what they need. For example people did not immediately realize that attack speed is ridiculous and getting 15% attack speed on a ring would tend to mean more than anything else the ring might provide. And so when I hit 60 I ended up selling my yellow rings that had int/vit and some other nice stuff for rings with 15% attack speed and around 60-70 intel because they did a TON for my DPS. But even those Int/IAS rings were only placeholders until I could afford the ridiculously expensive rings that came with attack speed plus other nice stuff, but the fact that people have to buy gear to be able to even hang in inferno to afford the next step up in gear makes for plenty of demand.

And some stats are just good for selling because they dont need anything else, such as magic find gear with over 14% magic find. Eventually people realize taht its a good idea to keep an extra set of items in your inventor, a set of gear comprised of the highest MF pieces that you have. So it doesn't matter that it only has MF and armor, you know that SOMEONE will want it for the express purposes of sitting in their inventory just so they can equip it before opening resplendent chests and the like.

You just have to undcut the competition and boom, "free" gold. That 17% MF level 60 blue that would have vendored for 500 earned you 20,000 instead. Because when someone has millions of gold they are willing to pay 20k per piece to complete a set of MF gear.

And consider the fact that this is still a young game. And with all the RNG involved in identifying the truly amazing gear you have to realize that there isn't a "ton" of the amazing stuff available yet. It simply hasn't been rolled yet. And so gear that wasn't quite to flawlessly randomed will retain its value for awhile until the supply of the even closer to perfect gear becomes larger.

I have sold 3 items on the RMAH now and made like 16 dollars combined, but only 1 of the items is something that i would even consider to be a particularly valuable items. The others simply have value now because better stuff hasn't been found yet and will be considered 'mediocre' at best in a few months time.

Dunno how well I explained that >_>

That's not quite what he was asking, FD. I think his question is this: if everyone makes money by selling stuff on the AH, where does the money to buy that stuff come from? 15% is lost from every transaction, so a substantial amount of it does come from in-game. Just playing the game on Inferno and selling to vendors can make a solid chunk of gold, especially if you're using gold find gear.

Also, is there a way to share your equipment online? I've seen a couple people do this in threads about upgrading equipment, and I'd like to try to, if possible. I'm not sure about what I should be upgrading now, since most of it's in a "good but not great" stage.

Does everyone try to keep at least one piece with increased pickup radius, btw? Not playing with this can be annoying.

If you're talking about the gold auction houses in online gaming, the status quo is as follows: game debuts, some guys with alot of skill and even more free time like the No Life Crew on Twitch will get to end game fast and start putting things up that no one else can get yet. The people who want gear and want it now pay the Price and set the opening mark. From there the majority begins bidding on certain commodities and auction house begins flowing.

Like FD said, we are in the opening stages of the game and so people are over paying for everything. This happens in every MMO I've ever played.

You can make gold just playing the game, I often just full clear act 1 with a lot of gold find gear and make about 600k + drops.

I think they nerfed the pots so you don't get quite as much anymore though.

But yeah, it's a market. People make gold in the game, buy something they want on the auction house. The seller of that item then buys something he wants on the auction house. If I'm on my Witch Doctor and I find a good monk item, I put it up on the auction house, somebody that wants it buys it, then I use the money to buy a good witch doctor item. Whoever I bought the witch doctor item from then goes on to buy something he wants.

There is a gold sink as the transactions continue on and on, but people continually make gold from farming etc and that easily outpaces the transaction gold sink.

I know a fool and his money are easily parted, but who the hell is buying?

There is a very small percentage of people pumping money into the RMAH without gaining any back. These guys are enough to keep the economy going.

And those people are the real reason why these "pay-what-you-want" systems are so profitable. There are tons of people out there that are willing to pump thousands of dollars into your game, but if you just charge a flat $60 to everyone who buys the game, you are missing out on that money. The vast majority of people will just sell items for money, then buy items with that money, never putting too much real money into the system, but it's worth it for those ridiculous people.

Yeah, there are tons of people that are willing to pay money for stuff in game, they are the ones buying stuff for $250.

Do you know why so many people get hacked all the time in this game and in WoW? People (even in these topics) keep blaming Blizzard for it, but it's because legitimate players are paying the gold farmers that did the hacking for all the stuff they stole.

Hopefully these players will just use the RMAH now and hacking won't be so profitable anymore. If that becomes the case, they'll just stop doing it (unless they figure out an easy way to break through authenticators)

Isn't selling stuff on the AH that doesn't fit your class so you can buy things that fit your class just like trading? I still don't see the problem with "playing the auction house".

Again, I'm new to the series, but isn't the whole point to grind endlessly against legions of mobs so you can get better items and make grinding easier so you can get better items and repeat the cycle forever?

again, that's the one complaint I find plausible. when I'm on my Witch Doctor I find 100 Mighty Barbarian Weapons. When I'm on Monk I find nothing but Off Hand Mojos. When I'm on Barbarian I could literally build a fortress of Quivers.

the game seems wired to force you into Trading(the auction house) and then setup a Real Money Auction House they knew everyone would use and then they tacked on a 15% "finders fee"

I want to be mad but it's friggin GENIUS. Get people to who refuse to play MMOs to pay us a monthly fee anyways!

I'd say most people yeah, but not everyone. That just kind of killed the game for me. I mean, not just that alone. The whole Auction House in general. They basically built the game around the Auction House. There's a good game buried under the Auction House, and the Auction House just makes it not fun. I've pretty much quit playing. I was hugely addicted to it for 2 weeks for what it's worth. Didn't buy the game myself. Never spent any real money on it.

I'd say it doesn't, for two reasons:

--> A) No need to make any more than 5 characters if you want to try out different builds. In D2, you had dozen of different possibilities and could try various stuff around for each run. Here, once you're done with your 5 characters, it's pretty much over.

---> B) Normal is too easy, and there's thus too much time before getting to any real challenge. That hurts the replay value a bit also, especially for such a repetitive game.

I'm still having fun with it, though!

Most non-weapon 6 prop plans are worth something. (the rare plans are all IL 62, which means all weapons are outclassed by IL 63 blues)

That being said, the legendary quiver plan would be a much bigger find (that thing's actually consistently good, so it's worth a metric crap ton).

This is a big part of it. If I ran a gaming company I wouldn't reveal a friggin thing about my game.

Other issues:
Always online can be defended but it's not really something that benefits the actual play experience for most people.

No PvP at launch.

Tying into #1 a bit, Diablo wasn't such a controlled experience before. PvP is going to end up being another grind.

Just beat normal for the first time... pretty cool game this is. It only took me until Act 4 to realize that I had been playing on my integrated graphics card the entire time. My laptop has two cards and I had everything on high settings assuming it would just know to use my dedicated card whenever I played games. Since I haven't played a PC game for about 4 years I figured frames dropping when there were tons of enemies on screen was the norm for using a laptop.. but no. The game actually plays really smooth the entire way through. At least this should make my Nightmare playthrough a little more interesting.
