I don't know, it's always something I "believed" since I was a kid. 40 seemed really old to me at the time and it seemed like a number where at that point, I figured I would have gotten everything under control. Probably that's not going to be the case lol.

I don't want to grow up to be super old though.

Nah, that's not it. You just don't want to be 40 right now. To you, a 20 year old, 40 is such a big number that you don't even understand how much time that will take. You haven't experienced even five years of life yet with your mind at about its max potential. 20 seems impossibly long. I used to have this fear of getting old because I had so much left to do with my life. I still do, but now I realize that the time it takes me to get older isn't being wasted with a blank space, but I will help fill it with my own accomplishments and memories.

Don't think about the future too much, it can give you a headache.

Time is perceived to move faster as a child, because you have less memories to look back on as you're growing up. Then as an adult, with more and more memories and experiences, time seems to slow down. Which means you'll perceive the next 20 years of your life to be longer than the first 20 years.

Which sucks.

It isn't passing leisurely, it's progressing agonizingly slow. Like torture.

Of course if I was in a better place in my life my opinion on the matter would change. Problem is, when I was happy, time flew by. While I'm depressed, time moves terribly slow.

So yeah. It sucks.

Ah, I mean sure they say "time flies if you're having fun", you don't want to feel like things you don't like are taking long on the other hand. But I mean, life itself, I don't really understand feeling like you have more time being a bad thing, that's a good thing. At least it has the potential to be good.

My man, I'm just saying, of course everybody has issues and is depressed at times, but since you have had good times, knowing you'll have time for more is good.

And if life is a drag at the moment, do something you wanna do. I mean hey, if anything you should have more freedom with that outlook right, just do whatever you want ey?

Ha I'm not at all qualified to be giving this advice, but hey felt like giving it a go.

I'm pretty sure I have spent more time in my life being depressed than happy. In fact I'd say I've only had one full year of true happiness. Whereas I've built up to several years of depression. It's just who I am, I guess =/

And freedom to do what I want would be nice if I had money. I do have a job now, finally, so in a few weeks I could definitely see an increase in the quality of my life. But it still might not be enough... We'll see.

It's the exact opposite for me...life has only gotten a lot faster with age.

A year to me as a kid was forever...a year to me now is quickly becoming no time at all.

It just depends. Time probably moved slow when I was a kid as well because I wanted to grow up even though everyone said "enjoy your childhood while it lasts blah blah." Well I did, but I'm glad to say that being an adult is better than being a kid. Even with all the depression.

What's more, it just depends on what you're doing with your life. As I said, when I was happy time flew by. Then it all came crashing down and life has been agonizingly slow. It's only been about 5-6 months, but it feels like it's been longer..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_perception#Long-term

Psychologists assert that time seems to go faster with age, but the literature on this age-related perception of time remains controversial.[11] One day to an eleven-year-old would be approximately 1/4,000 of their life, while one day to a 55-year-old would be approximately 1/20,000 of their life. This is perhaps why a day would appear much longer to a young child than to an adult.[12] In an experiment comparing a group of subjects aged between 19 and 24 and a group between 60 and 80 asked to estimate when they thought 3 minutes had passed, it was found that the younger group's estimate was on average 3 minutes and 3 seconds, while the older group averaged 3 minutes and 40 seconds,[13] indicating a change in the perception of time with age. People tend to recall recent events as occurring further back in time (backward telescoping) and distant events occurring more recently (forward telescoping).[14]
It has been proposed that the subjective experience of time changes with age due to changes in the individual's biological makeup.[15]
