I've considered that question before.
For several reasons, I would not sell M-rated games to children.

Curious as to other's thoughts on this.

I want my "No, because it's illegal" option

There are many, many M-rated games I'd have no problem selling to a 16 year old, but I wouldn't do it cause its against the law

I'm wondering where the option for "I would sell games based on company policy and state law" is but of course that would be too logical.

If policy and law says it's okay, then yeah of course I'd sell M-rated games to minors, I'm not the morality police.

I think the 4th option, "Probably not, their parents need to be involved" is the option that best fits this. It's legal to sell an M rated game to someone under 17 if they are with their parent/legal guardian.

It's illegal? I thought there was no actual law against it but it's just store policy at most places.

I know some states, counties, and cities were considering making laws about it. I don't know which have followed through and actually implemented the law, though.

At least in the US it is. It's pretty much as bad as selling cigarettes to a minor.

I'd... *gasp* follow store policy. It's a place of employment, not a place of "what are your morals".
I'm simply going to do what I'm told and get paid. I wouldn't really care.

no, in the US it isn't illegal. that's 100% company policy. and it isn't REMOTELY as bad as selling cigs or alcohol to a minor because THOSE acts are illegal. it's the same with R rated movies - the industry itself is in charge, not the government.

also that poll option doesn't make sense because minors ARE allowed to buy the game. 17 = minor still.

...though it's rather bothersome that some of you actually thought that the esrb has any legal authority. those ratings aren't some sort of government entity makes or has anything to do with.

though it's more troublesome that you'd consider thinking that M = AO because they aren't the same. M is a suggested age of 17, just like rated R is, but it is not a hard number or limit. AO = hard number. AO also is adults, M can include minors (and does within its age recommendation). there really isn't gonna be a company policy that tries to force M as 18 unless they want to come under attack. <_<;

I don't care if they mean age 17 or 18. Whatever the policy says is what I would do.
I'd just have a myriad of motivations for following the rule.

One I would absolutely sell the other not so much.

I guess I did glean over that.

But the the way the answers are worded definitely reflects you being in a position where there aren't factors a sales clerk would have to consider.

Agree with this. A poll asking "if it were actually up to you..." makes a lot more sense than a poll asking "Do you want to get fired y/n"

yeah I was under the impression this was a "if you were allowed to, would you do it" thing.... otherwise it's an entirely pointless question because it's not about the actual issue, but instead just a question of "would you get yourself fired for this" which would be stupid
