Jason Momoa deserves all the credit he can get. His acting was one of the true bright spots of the rather dim Stargate Atlantis and it's good to see him getting higher-profile work.

I mean he can make a brutal murdering rapist warlord likeable and relatable, so he's doing something right.

McKay is worth watching the show for as well. I also liked Sheppard and -- and this is a rare opinion -- Weir. I liked Ford too. Really as the show began I was pretty stoked.

But... well, the writers don't know how to handle character exits very well at all.

Eh I was actually pretty satisfied with how S1 ended. I like how they opened up all these plot lines, though. It's like S2 is gonna be a completely different show than S1. I guess that comes from the fact that it's a book series.

I've been thinking about checking the books out once the season is over, so I have a random question. I read most books on Kindle now, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off reading the series in physical form. I assume there are maps and family trees to refer to that would be a pain on Kindle. Are my concerns well founded?

It's not hard to read the books without looking at maps or family trees. It's significantly easier to keep track of everything when the story is told in text form.

I know plenty of people who have read on Kindle. You shouldn't NEED the maps or family trees to understand stuff, especially if you've watched the first two seasons.

All of the maps are available online (http://www.westeros.org/Citadel/Gallery/Category/C34/ for example, with all but maps #5 and #6 being official) so you could just look at them some time on computer. Especially since after 2 seasons you can look at the maps now and pick out the important landmarks (Winterfell, King's Landing, the Wall, etc) so you can get a general sense of geography.

There are listings of all of the characters in the appendixes in the back, but not in "Family tree" form as much as just family listing. I've never really cared for them actually, as I prefer stuff like the wiki of ice and fire that DOES have family trees, but it also has TONS of spoilers so I wouldn't suggest that unless you've read all of the books.

I liked going to the appendix each time I came across a new name just to get extra info on them. Sure it's not needed but I personally would want physical copies of these books for ease of flipping back and forth. I do mostly read ebooks nowadays so I'm not biased against them

If was pretty good just slow for this late in the season. The show doesn't handle the overall vibes as well as the books do. With AGoT there was a feeling of major tension, like s*** is going to hit the fan hard if the characters aren't very careful politically. In ACoK there was a feeling of escalation to something big. In the show I'm not feeling that escalation.

Oh God where do I start. Arya Stark has becomes this show's best character. I don't know how or when this happened but it did. Every scene with her just elevates the things around her. Her conversations with Tywin are so tense and brilliant, Arya showing off her intelligence and Tywin giving it right back. What makes it so great is the gigantic elephant of IF HE EVER KNEW EXACTLY WHO SHE WAS THIS WOULD GET SO REAL! So yeah Arya now #1

THE KINGSLAYER IS BACK!!! I didn't realize how much I missed him until now. That seen with his former squire was jarring. Traumatic. I ran the entire emotional coaster during that scene. You almost forget how vile Jaime is( as you do with Tywin until he tells people to burn villages) when he's opening up with his cousin and sharing stories of former times. He, like his sister, has this ability to be a ruthlessly selfish person while also being legitimately understanding and caring..at the same time. When he straight murders this guy he had an honest, down to earth conversation with you're reminded of when Cersei was sympathetic with Caitlyn Stark after she murdered her kid. Again, JARRING.

Theon didn't murder the Starks but he did murder 2 random kids by burning them to crisps. That's intense. His character is like the Anti Jon Snow: both characters never truly belonged or felt welcome but while Jon simply wanted an escape or a sense of normality, Theon was envious of the power. He cares so much at how his people look at him and with each heinous act he gets more respect and it elevates his behavior. Just a spectacular development of character. I wanna see how far he's willing to go.

The conversations with Sansa/Tyrion and Cersei are legendary. Every time Cersei opens the windows for a second and shows you the real person behind the walls you are simultaneously warmed and terrified. Her motherly compassion is endearing but then she says things like "every person you love makes you weaker"' and it's not some villainous sprawl, she really thinks that way. Tyrion and her having a moment of sincerity was unique and Tyrion being unsure of how to react to his sister being a real person might have been the best part.

Jon Snow's story has always been so rough on me. He's like Sansa in the terrible things happening to me department but unlike Sansa he was never a stuck up and pompous princess selling out her family. Jon Snow has always just wanted to belong to something, to prove himself. And everytime he does the right thing---he and Robb Stark are this show's only genuinely good people---he is punished for it. He won't kill this wildling or even take advantage of her sexually and now he's stuck for it. It's like he just keeps getting crapped on.

And finally, Dany Targ. My Khaleesi. I don't like watching bad things happen to her. I mean that legitimately. She's like Michael from the Wire: you just want her to destroy everything even though you know it's bad for her and you never want her to lose. At the end of last season I just wanted Dany to kill and murder and Khal Drogo every person in her path. So while the King of Qarth thing is visually and thematically interesting, watching bad things happen to her sucks.

P.S: THE KINGSLAYER HAS RETURNED. I love him so much.

I meant that it seemed like a spoiler because it doesn't seem like we're supposed to know if they were the Stark boys or not. But reading on it sounds like Realo hasn't read the books either. It just read it at first and assumed he already knew what would be revealed in the next episode. I have watched the scene multiple times since reading his post however, and the bodies do look a bit long to be them.

One more And I'm done I swear.

Game of Thrones, much like the rest of HBO's great dramas , have an over-arching theme to every episode and season. While this episode was supposed to be about honor and those with/without it, it felt more like an episode about identity.

Jon Snow being forced to question what the hell he's doing beyond the wall, Theon questioning how far he's willing to go to be respected, Arya and Tywin's tango about Ary being more than he shows and Tywin being simpler and more kind than he let's on. There's Sansa unsure of whats to come once she's preggo, Cersei unsure of what she's become and made Joffrey, Robb chasing nurses even though he knows he can't have her and trying to retain a piece of himself he knows he has to lose, the men in Qarth showing their true identities, Dany and her advisor whose name I always forget settling who they are to themselves and each other, and Caitlyn Stark teetering on the line between well natured, logical queen and the passionate woman we saw treat Jon Snow like dirt and try to kill Tyrion.

In the end, the only person who knows who he is is Jaime. Like he told his squire, "thank God I am who I am because I couldn't do anything else". Jaime is a boy raised to see himself as superior to everyone else, including lesser family, which makes killing, the thing he is good at, so easy. Funny enough, that same superiority has made him narcissistic to the point that the only life he wants to end, his own, is the one he can't.

Thats what made this episode legendary for me: that scene where Jaime killed his cousin after that deep and meaningful conversation rocked my universe. As handsome or funny or charming or beautiful as all these people are, they would kill their own family for the right cause.

That speech he gives Caitlyn about the vows knights have to take is the cherry on top of the delectable sundae that is Jaime Lannister.

The biggest moment in this entire series was Ned getting Marie Antoinette'd.

That was built up to and like every other great HBO show it came in the penultimate episode. I've watched enough Wire to tell you the 2nd to last episode is where little princes get burnt to a crisp.

I just know my TV and I know a show like Game of Thrones wouldn't just kill 2 kids, one crippled, without terrorizing you with it emotionally for 45 minutes.

When you make this kind of speculation, you should probably remind people it's speculation to avoid situations like this. When you state it as fact, someone will inevitably screw up and think you really mean it as fact when we have a different source material to work off of.

Personally though, I never buy offscreen deaths of main characters on anything, unless we precisely see the situation they are walking into in advance and they leave no room for doubt ahead of time. Or of course if the actor actually died or otherwise left the show with little notice (but I think in this show in particular they would be forced to recast).

His character is so important for so many reasons.

1. Since Game Of Thrones ultimate goal is to explain The Universal Power Struggle that forever haunts and drives the hearts of man, a character like Jaime is not only enjoyable but necessary as well. Here is a man who, unlike the rest of the world, has shown no desire for anymore power than he already has. He is content just doing what he's good at; the man with all the gifts but none of the ambItion. He is smart enough to be a lording politician, quick witted enough to make a great Hand, strong and handsome enough to be King...he wants none of it. He's like the Ivy Leagu kid whose dad is a Fortune 500 guy but all he wants to do is write children's books or open a yogurt store. This is seen as a waste to most because of the lofty expectations we heave on those with privilege then become shocked when they turn out to be monsters.

2. In that same vein, Jaime represents the invincible monster in us all. The person who has everything and is a constant reminder of the universal truth that some people are just born superior to others, giving then unlimited leeway and opportunity. He is the man we want to be and the one we hate the most; the side you're on depending on how accepting you are of life's inevitable truths. His cousin understood the lower class of his family and though it angered him, his frustrations were sedated by the sheer bliss of sharing a moment of spotlight with Jaime. Being apart of it for just a second was worth everything. On the other hand, Csitlyn Stark can not accept it. Jaime's speech to her, as pompous and calculated as it might have been, was completely truthful. Jaime IS more faithful than Ned. Caitlyn did treat Jon Snow like crap. Jaime is a good knight because despite all the vows and honor crap, soldiers jobs are to kill the people old guys tell them to. Period.

So in the end, thanks to a prodigious nature and elite nurture, Jaime is the best at everything, the best of all of us. He can't be quelled in fist or fiction, quicker in wit and draw. He is handsome enough to make you wish he was better and handsome enough that you understand why he's not. He's like Patrick Bateman: so bored with having it all that killing becomes the last sensation.

So in the end, the person with the most in common with Jaime is the Hound. They are the 2 men who not only know their place but are glad to find themselves there. The only difference is that the Hound is there because, thanks to his Nature and Nurture, he can't be anything else even though he's suited for it, and Jaime could be anything else even though he isn't.

I'm guessing Theon didn't know the kids would be dead... If that is even them...

Great episode.

Arya and Tyrion have been top tier throughout and continue to be my favourite main characters.

Yesterday's episode was my favorite of Season 2, definitely. I'm still liking Season 1 more overall to this point, but some of that might be my discomfort at some of the changes here, as on a few of them, I'm still kind of waiting to see where it goes to make my mind up on whether or not I think it was a good change. Plus, I miss some of the Season 1 stuff like Littlefinger and Varys snark-offs. Those were just great, and I wish we could have had more somehow. Tyrion provides some relief on that front, but it's not quite at that level, for me.

Arya is still by far the MVP of Season 2 for me. Her scenes with Tywin and Jaqen are just excellent, and pretty much the highlight of any episode for me. Jaime is excellent as always too, so it was good to see him again.

I'm also just kind of assuming that whole "TWO EPISODES LEFT" was a mistake. This was episode 7, right? I can't really see them properly wrapping up the season with just two episodes, though I suppose how they decide to juggle the plot threads it could maybe be done. Honestly, even three episodes seems to be pushing it for me, but I definitely think they could do it with three.

if i see a burned corpse and am told or led to believe it's someone, i just naturally assume it's someone else at this point. i gotta see the character die or you gotta give me a more recognizable corpse.
