4 above 5, 8, 9 and 13 is pretty gross, but you're also the one who thinks Terra is the best female in the series if I remember right so I expected pretty bad rankings anyways.

4 is a game I enjoy more and more every time I play it.

first time through it was in the middle of the rankings, but after 4 playthroughs now it's been movin' on up

I still need to do the PSP versions of the game too

FF4 DS is the one I played. It's ok, but I like all the ones after 4 more aside from 7 and 12. That excludes 11 and 14 which I won't ever play and 13-2 which I haven't gotten yet.

Only doing this for the single-player mainline titles as well as Tactics. The latter just because it tends to get a free ride onto all these lists no matter what so... might as well. Really seems like the community practically views Tactics as a numbered entry or something.

And I'm not even including X-2 and XIII-2 because the former is literally a game I delude myself into pretending never happened and the latter... I haven't played, so yeah.

Many will argue it had a more serious attempt at a plot but I'm not sure I'd agree; FFIV's plot is pretty f***ing bats*** what the f***, really. Pardon my asterisks.

A lot of people appreciate how it did so much for pushing plot development and characterization into the genre and indeed gaming.

FF4 was the first in the series that had a cast of characters that truly felt "right".

Many of them come and go, and they all leave an impression on the player, and in the end when you assemble your final team of five you feel as if this was the true A-Team, that these were the five that can save the world. Each of them lost much, and some everything, but they each display their own unique flavor of courageousness that most final fantasy characters lack. Not a single character seemed to be there "just because".

FF6 was the next game that did this right, and 7 after it to a lesser degree.
