335.Lunatone


A little cooler than Solrock at least, but not all that cool. I didn't really understand why Lunatone was used in the double gym in RSE (aside from the theme I guess). It would have made a lot more sense if Lunatone and Sorock at least learned Helping Hand or Follow Me, but they don't. Despite it's design being pretty uninspired, at least it's not as ugly as Solrock.

Lunatone is my favorite pokemon that I would rank a 1. So the 2s are coming soon.

Don't forget to throw Quiver Dance into the mix, along with Sleep Powder and/or Leech Seed. That thing is killer in-game.

They didn't even make an effort to make this guy look good. Why does he have a clown nose, why is he gross brown and gray colors and why are his arms are all veiny. Machamp is far from perfect, but obviously Conkeldurr was Machamp 2.0 and in comparison, it's 12/10 material. I almost hate it more because it actually is useful. There's so many cool Pokemon that could have decent stats or a good movepool and yet this ugly piece of crap gets to be in the OU tier.

Ugly AND a friendship evolution? Sign me up! I know we've all been sick of a Zubat/Golbat for a few gens now, but the replacements we got could have been a lot better. At least they bothered branching out a bit and making it psychic type instead of poison like most of the Gen. 5 rehashes, but considering that Xatu and Lugia were already flying/psychic and Sigilyph was introduced in the same generation it doesn't get any kind of novelty boost from me. It's in the NU tier, which is the only reason it has a slight edge on Conkledurr, so at least I never have to look at it's ugly face if I decide to give shoddy battle a try in Gen 5.

Cheren sucks. I don't know why, but I always think of Liepard as his signature pokemon. Probably because he always talks smack but then has this crap in his team. It's NU tier, and genuinely uninterestingly designed. I really don't feel Gen 5 needed a new cat pokemon. We already have Meowth, Skitty, and Glameow families, so yet another boring cat seems unnecessary. Then again, I'm sure someone out there feels the same about the early game birds or all the dogs that have been mad, so I guess I'm just not a pokecat person.

We already have Castform, your gimmick is invalid. Just another NU grass type, nothing special here. We also have too many pokemon that are just a flower (Sunflora, Roselia/Roserade, Jumpluff, etc.) and it doesn't make sense for cherries to become a flower (well maybe it does, I don't know how cherries work in nature, but I don't like it).

When B/W makes a good Pokemon, it makes a damn good pokemon, but when it makes a bomb, it makes a god damn bomb. I know it's supposed to be based off of War of the Worlds, but that movie was made in the 50s, you're not supposed to be designing stuff based on 50s sci fi in 2011. It's pretty ugly and we didn't need as many psychics as we got in Gen 5 anyway. We also don't need a steady trickling in of "alien" pokemon either. Clefairy and Deoxys are enough, so if you're going to make more, make them right.

On my first playthrough of Emerald, I absentmindedly went through the stat charts and thought Slaking must be amazing due to it's enormous stats.So I trained Slakoth then it evolved which I thought got rid of the loafing problem, so I thought that would be permanent, then it evolved into Slaking and I was entirely disappointed. Into the box he went, never to come out again. I wish there were something you could do to make him somewhat useful, and I guess you could try to pull something with skill swap in doubles or Mummy in singles, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth and probably wouldn't end as well as just picking a pokemon with decent stats and an actual ability. It's entirely worthless against Protect or similar moves. I guess it was kind of intended to be a new Snorlax, but Snorlax is the chillest pokemon ever and Slaking is always shown rubbing it's belly or picking it's nose. I don't recall there ever being a demand for that.

I know Dunsparce has something of a following here, but I don't get it. I don't think it's cute or ugly, it's not part of an evolutionary family, it's normal type and it was a swarm pokemon. Unless you are trying to catch em all, it's entirely possible to not even know it exists. It doesn't rank any lower simply due to it's complete forgetableness. I know it's got some kind of hax strategy with serene grace, but I tend to not like strategies that don't allow my opponents to have any actions anyway.


I'm going to start giving hints as to who's next. Feel free to try and guess if you like.

This thing is two "I"s from being a damn phone company. Bing even automatically assumes that I was searching for "Verizon Pokemon". That aside, I'm not a fan of the design, the typing, the anything. In fact, I really wish non of the musketeers were fighting (something about quadruped fighting types doesn't sit well with me, it's just not how I imagine fighters), but I can forgive that. Verizion looks like a smug... thing... It's wearing some kind of weird shoes, and it's got it's hair.... stuff curled, it's got some tumor growing out of it's neck, I don't get it. It managed to be an OU type, so at least it's status of "legendary" is Justified (lol) unlike several others.

Coming Next: A Purple Pokemon (Well, the Pokedex says so).

I've used a Slaking/Gastro Acid combo in Doubles and it's pretty good. All of Slaking's stats are amazing, and it learns Slack Off, so it holds its own pretty well.
