I'm bored at work and don't feel like working.

Why top three? Psh. Why not just one? For some types I actually only like around two or three Pokemon. So rather than give crappy writeups with no emotion, let's stick to three each.

The order I do the types depends on the order they are requested. Or if a type suddenly gets a bunch of votes, I'll move it to the top of the list.

Occasionally I might even rant about a few Pokemon I dislike if I feel so inclined.

So go ahead and request types and I will start.

Stifled's Top Three Water Pokemon

#3. Basculin

This might be an unpopular opinion, but hear me out. First take a look at Basculin. ANGRY ANGRY FISH! I love the badass design. You pretty much know when you catch one of these bad boys you're in for something good. But what really surprised me about it was the stats! High attack and speed on a one stage fish Pokemon I randomly caught? This can happen? Angry fish of death became a staple on my Black and White team and there was no going back.

#2. Gyrados

Who had any idea when they got their wimpy (yet still awesome) Magikarp that it would evolve into...THIS HUGE F***ING DEATH MACHINE?! I sure didn't. I love the splashy little carp in the way kids love Diego on Dora the Explorer. He really adds nothing to the show, but is a nice goofy form of comic relief.

Gyrados, on the other hand, is not a goof. Gyrados will destroy your house with one Hydro Pump. If you don't have a house, it will use Water Gun on your cardboard box and wash it away. Either/or. His attack stat is already through the roof, but add Dragon Dance to the mix? It's ridiculous.

Fun fact: I have a Magikarp shirt that says "I swear to God, when I evolve I'm going to kill you all."

#1. Empoleon

You can send your army of Mews and Mewtwos after me until the end of time, but their Psychic attacks are MEANINGLESS! This Water/Steel defensive tank is one of my absolute favorites to use in battle. Psychics are a common type used competitively, so how lucky is it this tough-as-nails penguin came along to balance things out? I mean sure, you could just use Dark and Ghost types, but they don't have penguins!

Empoleon started out as a cute little Piplup (who I freaking love). Then it evolves into Prinplup, who is...meh. Then Empoleon comes along and it's so hardcore I don't even have the words. Good defenses, pretty high attack, ability to use Aqua Jet. This is a no brainer. Fantastic Pokemon.

Stifled's Top Three Ground Pokemon

#3. Marowak

Cubone is cool and cute and it throws bones and is just awesome all over the place. But then it evolves into Marowak, which just amplifies all of those traits tenfold. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I also love the play on words Marowak has. You have bone MARROW combined with a nice WHACKING motion. Hence Marowak.

Fun fact: Remember how in Red/Blue you could catch obscenely leveled Pokemon? Well I had a nice level 250 Marowak on my team. This guy challenged me to a battle once thinking he was so cool with his army of Mews. Six Bonemerangs later, I was victorious. Take that, you Game Shark using cheating chump!

#2. Camerupt

I love camels. I love the color orange. I love fire types. This Pokemon was literally made for me.

Why isn't it on the fire list? There's some seriously tight competition for that list, so I felt Camerupt was a better fit on the ground list. Its movepool covers a good mixture of ground and fire moves, so you literally can't go wrong with this guy. It's pretty sturdy too, which helps a lot of you want to try to use it in a fight.

I have to admit this is more of a design choice than a battle choice. While you could make an argument Camerupt can be useful in a fight, I just don't know. I've never used Camerupt on my team. I just keep him in a special box with my favorites and admire him from afar mostly. But isn't that enough? ISN'T IT?!

#1. Dugtrio

DIGLETT DIG DIGLETT DIG TRIO TRIO TRIO!

Fun Fact: In elementary school, I had this awesome band teacher. In middle school, I had this crappy band teacher. So me and my friend decided to piss off the crappy band teacher by spamming the Diglett/Dugtrio chant from the Pokemon anime. We chanted it over and over again, driving the teacher nuts. Good times.

Anyways, Dugtrio is a speedy little bugger with the ground movepool to work with. Most ground types are a little on the sluggish side, so having one that you can boost its speed is refreshing. Not to mention the design. I love the cute little moles popping up from underground. Diglett was adorable, and despite having a serious business look on its face, I think Dugtrio is pretty cute as well.

Stifled's Top Three Poison Pokemon

Poison is probably my least favorite type. With the exception of Toxic, Toxic Spikes, and Poison Powder, there really isn't much usefulness in Poison type movies. Having a Poison type also puts you at risks against Psychics, which is bad. But there are still a few gems among the filth (literally lol).

#3. Vileplume

I like this whole line, but Vileplume is the standout for me. It's so flamboyantly awesome. A gigantic flower with a bottom half that kind of reminds me of a toadstool. Everything about that thing looks so suspect, which makes it cool.

The movepool is fun to choose from, but grass moves mixed with Toxic, Toxic Spikes, or Poison Powder is pretty standard fare for a lot of grass types. In a way, Vileplume won over its competition because it looks cooler than the others similar to it.

#2. Venomoth

Venom + moth = Venomoth. On one hand, har har har lame. On the other hand, I really do love these play on words puns Game Freak use to name their Pokemon.

This is the serious business version of Butterfree. With Butterfree, you have a cuteness about it that makes the girls go aww! But with Venomoth, there's no cuteness. Just sleek badassery in a deadly, winged package.

One thing that puzzles me, however, is the random inclusion of Psychic moves to its movepool. I found this odd with Butterfree as well. I'm not exactly complaining, but perhaps one of them should have doubled as a Psychic type? Just a thought.

#1. Crobat

Glorious speed. This thing is fast. Attach a Mean Look to this speedy bad and it's the best roaming legendary tracker there is. In fact, I named mine MEANLOOK just for the occasion!

The design I'm kind of iffy on because...big purple down syndrome bat? I dunno about that. I mean the purple part I can get on board with because it's a Poison type, but the spacy look on its face has to go.

Pure usefulness wins the day for Crobat here, however, because high speed and attack stats make Crobat quite the force to be reckoned with.

Fun Fact: My ex-girlfriend challenged me to a game of Pokemon once. Her team was garbage. I thought I was going to handle her entire team with just one of my Pokemon. Then she whipped out her Crobat. She literally must have spent her entire game powering up her Crobat because that thing was crazy strong. I managed to beat her, but she dropped three of my Pokemon in the process.

Stifled's Top Three Flying Pokemon

I've always had a particular fondness for this type. I guess it has to do with the player typically capturing a flying type as one of their first Pokemon of the game. Unless you go out of your way to avoid them, you will probably be taking a cute little bird to your first Pokemon Gym challenge.

#3. Pidgeot

This was honestly hard for me to choose just one of this line. Pidgey is adorable. Pidgeotto is cool and has the anime appearances going for it. I went with Pidgeot, however, because of the hair. Yeah, I said it. The hair. Also, it's a huge freaking pidgeon that you can ride on its back.

Its stats are so-so, but you will probably have one on your team until you track down a suitable replacement. It's certainly not bad by any means and the access to Quick Attack is a plus. Early on in the game, it will bully most wild Pokemon and even some of the Gym Pokemon.

Fun Fact: In a story I wrote for English class in 6th grade, I named the main character "Kirbeotto", a mix of Kirby and Pidgeotto. I also named the locations in the story after Pokemon towns. The teacher made us swear we didn't use any licensed material for our stories. I lied out my ass.

#2. Chatot

Say what you will about gimmick Pokemon. I LOVE THEM! I was so tickled teaching my Chatot various dirty words via the Chatter move/DS's microphone. Whatever word you taught your Chatot was it's cry when it went into battle. I finally settled on "waffles" for mine.

To my surprise, Chatot has some cool stats for the point in the game you get him. I got him through an in-game trade with an NPC and it was a beast until like 2/3 of the way through the game. It's quite fast, and has good special attack. A flying type with good special attack isn't very common, so this only adds to Chatot's uniqueness.

#1. Staraptor

Holy crap. I was shocked when my Staravia suddenly had an epic attack stat after it evolved. What we have here, folks, is a Flying type you acquired in the beginning of the game evolving into a speedy attack machine that learns the likes of Endeavor, Quick Attack, Brave Bird, Return, Fly, and...wait for it...CLOSE COMBAT! This blew me away when my Flying type learned a super powerful Fighting move.

If Boss Honchkrow is the Godfather, Staraptor is his personal bodyguard/hitman. This bird looks tough, acts tough, and is tough. If you go up against it in a fight, don't be surprised if you lose.

Stifled Presents: I Hate You. Please Die.

I'm going to take this opportunity to rant about three Pokemon I hate. Uxie. Mesprit. Azelf. The Legendary Psychic Trio. These three are literally useless. Let me tell you why.

In then past there have been good legendary trios. Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres were amazing. Three different Pokemon, three different types, three awesome designs. Good stuff.

Then we fast forward to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl's legendary trio. First off, Mesprit is roaming and I DESPISE roaming Pokemon. You have to chase them all over the place and slowly wear them down, only getting one turn at a time before they run away. By the time you wear them down, they have a hard time staying in the Poke Ball. The obvious solutions are either a Mean Look Pokemon or a Master Ball, but it's so annoying I have to bother in the first place.

Secondly, they all look the same! They are color swap Pokemon. This is so incredibly lazy and lame on so many levels. I also hate Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus for the same reason, but the lame Psychic Trio did this crime first, so they get the hate.

Lastly, they are all Psychic type! What the s*** is this?! Past legendary trios have three different types. This makes them a trio! They balance each other out! This crew is a bunch of lame copies that all have the same moves. Literally the same moves. I believe each of them learn something different at level 75 or so, but big f***ing deal. Why on earth would you want to use those chumps that long to get one unique move?

If they wanted to take one of them and make it the event only Pokemon, that would have been fine. The copies are essentially like Mew and Celebi anyway. But no. They had to make three clones and drag down an otherwise good set of Pokemon that Gen IV had.

Stifled's Top Three Ice Pokemon

#3. Beartic

Imagine if Smokey the Bear was frozen solid. Now imagine that instead of preventing forest fires, Smokey wanted to encase the entire forest in a thick sheet of ice. Actually...since fire melts ice he'd still wanna prevent forest fires!

Anyways, considering how awesome bears are, Game Freak has been a little light on the bear Pokemon. Teddiursa and Ursaring are pretty cool, but they didn't exactly blow me away. Beartic does though. An ice bear is so cool and all that sort of thing.

#2. Articuno

I'm a huge fan of the legendary birds. They are just so freaking cool looking. Not only that, but their in game stats are fantastic as well. You can't really go wrong sending any of them into battle. But where the other two have the badass thing going for them, Articuno shines with elegance and grace.

Fun Fact: I always make sure to give my Articuno a cool nickname. In Pokemon Yellow, I named the legendary birds after the three members of Blink 182. Moltres was Mark, Zapdos was Tom, and Articuno was Travis. Most of the time, however, I go with the nickname Freezy-E. I'm not big on rap, but I thought giving Easy E's rapper name an ice theme was funny.

#1. Kyurem

Nope. It isn't Froslass. My number one Ice spot used to belong to Articuno, but then I encountered this behemoth. Once I caught this ridiculously badass ice dragon, there was no going back.

The feeling I get when I use Kyurem in battle is amazing. I feel like a total tank, like nothing can take me down. And it pretty much is a tank. High defenses, high special attack, Ice Beam. He's like the government enhanced version of Articuno. I was so impressed, I even decided to bestow the Freezy-E nickname upon it in my Black game.

This fusion stuff with Reshiram and Zekrom in Black and White 2 is pretty epic. The only thing I'm not overly happy with is the names. I expected something cool. Not "Super Sparkling Kawaii Banzai Dragon Mech" or whatever the f*** it was.
