But Layton is Puzzle based.

I'm talking about games in which puzzles aren't the main focus.

I guess I didn't make it clear.

I think my brain is playing with me because I can't remember any puzzles from any game ever.

Well except for the Cloister of Trials in FFX, but those are anything but good, so it doesn't count.

Maybe good puzzles don't exist.

Edit : I'm looking for good puzzles in games that don't have puzzles as their main focus!

Horror games tend to have pretty cryptic stuff. Silent Hill comes to mind.

Oh and Penumbra. But you could make a case about that series being heavily puzzle based too.

Silent Hill doesn't have good puzzles =/

Combining a bunch of objects that have nothing to do with each other together to create a strange item to drop in a clogged toilet in the middle of a hospital isn't good.

Yeah, Lufia 2 is the first RPG I've played where the puzzles were actually interesting and didn't feel like a lazy way of making dungeons have more than combat.

There's those yeah, but there's also often coded messages in books or on walls. Sometimes they're poems or a pattern or something. In my eyes those were good, and always fun to try and decipher

You're not giving examples there guys.

Well you're giving examples of GAMES, not of puzzles.

My poor topic is so misunderstood.

So what are some of those Lufia's puzzles!?

(I'm asking for this because I want a puzzle in my ****ty RPG Maker game catacombs and I lack inspiration)

uhhh

you want us to 'describe' a puzzle to you

wouldn't it be easier to see for yourself how said puzzle(s) work? especially if you want to replicate them?

Well you should play it anyway because it's a really good game tbqh.

But yeah pretty sure nobody actually wants to try to describe a puzzle to you.

FFXIII-2's clock puzzles are pretty great.

And with great, I mean absolutely 100% rage-inducing.

On another note, I second Lufia 2. Play it.

good to see lufia 2 was the immediate response. pretty much every dungeon it had there. but good luck getting half of them in rpgmaker.

ghost trick had some really nice ones, especially later on with spoilers.
999's were good but a bit convoluted. the bacarrat one is a prime example of this. others are just too linear.

but if you're looking for specific puzzles you prob should play the games since you'll get the needed idea of how the creators worked 'em out.
