Gameplay: Ocelot > The Boss > Liquid > Solidus Character and Personality: Ocelot > The Boss > Liquid > Solidus Impressiveness as a character: The Boss > Ocelot > Liquid > Solidus Connection with the protagonist: The Boss > Liquid > Ocelot > Solidus Overall: Ocelot >= The Boss > Liquid > Solidus
I actually didn't make this topic intending to bash Solidus, but now that I think about it, I can't think of anything about him that I actually like.

I'd agree with most of that, except I do like Solidus as a character. And while I like The Boss I'm not as big on her as everyone else seems to be. Not over Ocelot and Liquid!

Solidus probably had the best motivation for what he was trying to do. Liquid was crazy, Boss was America's punching bag, Ocelot was nanomachines. At least Solidus wanting to get rid of the Patriots served a purpose

Liquid was a bit more than crazy. It was more like the biggest inferiority complex ever.

Solidus's character is pretty good and his boss fight is great. Problem is that MGS has a history of absolutely amazing boss fights, so Solidus just kind of pales in comparison.

Solidus also has the problem of being the single biggest tool in the entire series, which is saying something when he's in the same damn game as Fortune and Raiden.

Really, the only thing I might even possibly switch is The Boss and Ocelot for character and personality, and even then, I think I'd just put an equal sign between them instead.
Both are pretty much perfect final bosses.

While I'll definitely say the boss battle with Solidus is the weakest final boss of the main series, I like him as a character much more than The Boss, and slightly more than Liquid. (Ocelot's the forever #1, though).
Not saying any of those character are bad, of course; they're all really great.

Kotetsu534 posted... Should rank setting and music as well.
Final Boss Fight Area: Liquid > The Boss >= Solidus >= Ocelot (this is difficult; Liquid has the most variety as his boss fight consists of three sections, The Boss and Ocelot need no explanation, and Solidus' area works for the actual theme of his game and character better than anyone else's does)
I don't remember the music for any of them, though, sorry.

Solidus is way awesome as a character. The Boss was pretty boring to me as a character, a borderline Mary Sue who was just... calm and perfect, always. In a pretty boring way, no less!
Give me Solidus's absurd power suit and doc oc tentacles or Liquid's absolute refusal to die any day. And Ocelot mannerisms!

MGS2's biggest weak point is its lack of memorable boss fights. Aside from fighting multiple metal gears, there is nothing that speaks out.
As a person who thinks MGS2 is the best in the series (or possibly tied with MGS1), i will admit that MGS2's biggest problem is its non memorable boss fights.

The Boss is pretty overrated. I agree with KJH that she's presented as a bit of a Mary Sue. I'd have her at the bottom of all of the lists aside from "connection with MC"

MGS2's boss fights are pretty memorable, really.
The bigger problem is that most of them aren't good.

I actually think MGS2's boss fights are pretty solid, they just lack any legendary boss fights like Psycho Mantis or Grey Fox or The Fury/Sorrow/End or Laughing Octopus.
On the whole though they're decent with the exception of Fortune who isn't even really a boss fight.
MGS4 has the worst boss fights of the series, not MGS2. MGS3 > MGS > MGS2 > MGS4

compared to the rest of the MGS games i'd argue that they aren't very memorable. Solidus is of course, since hes the final boss of the game. Its not that solidus wasn't an epic fight or anything, but even as a man who thinks MGS2 is the best in the series, I'll admit that the other three games had more memorable final bosses.
The most memorable part of MGS2's ending is just the craziness the story goes through in the final hour or so. Maybe the solidus fight seems less epic because of what the player goes through in the final parts of the game, idk.

MGS2's boss fights were kind of cookie cutter. I have to agree with Lopen that MGS2 really needed an amazing boss like the other MGSs have.
Gameplay is probably Ocelot > Liquid > Solidus > The Boss. Tough one between Solidus and The Boss though. Liquid is classix and Ocelot is just so perfect. Character-wise, I think I also have to go with Ocelot > Liquid > Solidus > The Boss, but again, it's close between Solidus and The Boss.

I dunno. RAY and Liquid Ocelot alone would almost be enough for me to put it over 2. Raging Raven is probably the worst boss in the series though.

I thought Fatman and Solidus were a blast to fight. Olga was good just for the atmosphere alone. A ton of Metal Gears was pretty epic. The rest in MGS2 were kinda meh.

eh, gonna have to disagree with you on both MGS4 being the worst for boss fights and that ranking. MGS4 had laughing octopus, crying wolf, screaming mantis, rex vs ray, and ocelot. All of those were solid fights. Raging raven was pretty bad ill admit. I'll also admit that the backstory of the b+b corps was bad, being way to similar. But as far as actual fights, MGS4 had some pretty good ones.
As for the ranking, MGS3 gets way too much love for 2 fights. The end and the boss were amazing, but the rest weren't nearly as good as people think they are.

Love fighting The Fury. The Sorrow is awesome, too, if you want to count it. I really like fighting the Shagohod, believe it or not, but I would attribute a lot of that to atmosphere. The only boss fight in the game I would say is bad is The Pain. The rest are at least decent.
