Anyways, has anyone watched or read The Law of Ueki? I suppose not, but it's a great series and not too long for a shounen being. It starts off pretty good, some might say a bit slow, but from what I've seen it looks like most people agree that it gets way better later on. What I'm trying to say; You should go check it out!

Smoker vs. Law, can't wait for that in the anime. This Mone got to have something to do with Laws weird behavior. Tashigi fails big time. Smokers a badass, but then takes his heart, whoa. Now I'm really excited for next chapter. Luffy meets up with Law again!

It would be cool if we heard some more stuff about other supernovas. Serveral seemed to fall at the hands of the New World. We know Kid and Drake has been quite bold in the New World right when entered and Kid messed with Big Moms crew making them short on money. Killer was of course also part of that. Drake tried going against Kaido. Law is a Shichibukai. Bonney was captured. Urouge, Apoo and Bege faced what looked like fatal troubles. Well that does leave out only Hawkins.

13. Magico

Author: Iwamoto Naoki
Debut: February 2011

So like, it started off kinda interesting and all, I like when things take place in their own world as opposed to "kid from japan gets powers" type settings, but then it quickly deteriorates into something with bad shounen and even worse "romantic-comedy."

What is it, pj?
I know a few of you read it because we all bashed it before, but for those who didn't, it's about wizards and magic and the main characters gets hitched with this girl for some reason I don't remember anymore. She has a demon inside her and they need to undergo a bunch of rituals to complete "Magico," which I can't remember is a spell or item or what, and cure her or something.

It had some god awful small arcs, and then redeemed itself with a fairly interesting couples tournament arc, which introduced some actually entertaining characters. It even proved that this author is capable of building up a good showdown and deliver a nice intense and satisfying climactic ending. The action was well-choreographed and the magic powers were actually cool.

Art
It's a shame because the style of the world is actually kinda unique and fun. But it's also not good when I like the way all your inanimate objects look but I hate your character designs. They're not hideous but they're just kinda boring and I hate the "huge anime eyes" thing that usually is evaded in shounen jump manga. The paneling is pretty good, but nothing noteworthy.

Character and Story
Ugh, these characters. UGH. So boring and flat and dumb. You got Shion the protagonist and his wife Emma with a boring face and huge boobs and he nosebleeds anytime she looks at him. It got old by Chapter 2. It still happens with disturbing frequency. For a plot where romance is intricate did they have to be such dolts about the whole thing? I get they're sheltered and innocent but you can't really expect to interest me when the thought of kissing is still too much for them to bear. The relationship goes nowhere beyond the typical "I'll protect you" shounen crap he gets to pull when the villain gets too villainy. No chemistry either. Stupid cat sidekick that is nowhere near Happy level. She's not even Charle level. That bad.

There's only been 7 chapters since the end of the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc. (man that name alone sounds like a spoiler...not that it mattered much)

Bleach is a lot better reading, like most Shounen honestly. Mainly because the pacing isn't so f***ed up. Hell, the only one I actually enjoy the anime more is Yu Yu Hakusho, but that's because the manga is somewhat a mess.

Dragonball is good too, Z...eh not so much.

Anyway, really enjoyed all 3 chapters. One Piece being the best.

And yeah you if meant on whether or not Bleach is up to date on the scans, it is. In fact the latest chapter went up scanned today!
You could very well start on ch. 480 since that's when the new arc begins.

Eh I wouldn't consider Gundam to be shounen just because it's aimed at children for the most part. You take a look at Zeta and Victory and tell me if that is aimed at children >_>

If anything it's aimed at little girls if we're going by the 'modern' Gundams like Wing/SEED/Destiny/00. The UC stuff is most certainly not for children of the modern era either!

Besides, when was the last time a Gundam pilot defeated a boss with a resolve powerup? Or had a training arc to prepare for a tournament?

Compared to other "mass killings, lots of people die" series, Death Note is actually fairly tame. Normally those involve people dying in a horrifying or violent ways. Aside from a few deaths, Death Note is pretty low on the violence, since getting a heart attack isn't something I'd consider gruesome.
Though I suppose that the anime did make things more dramatic.

And Bakuman is without a doubt Shounen. I mean it was originally about teenage boys setting their sights for a common goal.
Now I haven't read any sports manga before, but I wouldn't think that it's so much of a stretch to think of Bakuman like a sports manga only with manga making as the "sport".

I define shounen as a type of manga about character(s) that fight/compete and constantly grow stronger* while facing stronger enemies.

DN, there are no powerups for Light, unless you count the DN itself. There are no stronger enemies either. He doesn't get stronger/smarter, but he does grow as a character, just not in the typical way.

As for Bakuman, I feel like it's not really a shounen either. I will admit it's pretty similar to a battle shounen, but there's just something about it that doesn't fit the bill. They described themselves best: a non-mainstream battle manga with non-mainstream protagonists engaging in mainstream fights while using non-mainstream powers.
