Weedle's name appears to be a misspelling of weevil, but this is not likely, considering the difference between the two. Its name is more likely a combination of worm and needle, which refers to the stingers on its body. Beedle is similar, but refers to bees instead. The "Weed" part of Weedle may refer to the plants it eats, which could be weeds.

Its name is just a corruption of the word cocoon, and in the case of its Japanese name, it is the word itself.


Beedrill

Beedrill's name is a combination of bee and drill, indicating the needle-like arms it wields.
