I am in one of my I SHOULD WATCH A BUNCH OF STUFF OMG moods, and when that coincides with one of my I SHOULD WRITE THINGS FOR B8 THAT NOBODY WILL READ moods, this topic is the result! I'll be watching all sorts of random crap, and by "all sorts" I mean "eww live action what even is that" Due to various technical and scheduling issues, I know this won't be updated every day, but hopefully I will be able to keep the topic from purging at least >_> I do want some help picking out stuff, though! STUFF I KNOW I PLAN TO WATCH: PONY- ...I have to admit that I am kind of getting into it. >_> I don't think I'm ever going to be a super hardcore brony or anything (if only because they scare me and I say this as a card-carrying member of every other terrible fanbase on the planet) but I am tired of being tsundere about it and have resolved to watch beyond the handful of episodes I've seen. HIDAMARI SKETCH- Last time I did a topic like this, Hidamari was one of the recs that made it into my rotation, and while I only watched like three episodes, I loved it. It's earned a second chance to be sure. KURAGEHIME- The gf and I are watching this. We seem to be changing shows every week when our attention span runs out or something needs to go back to the library, but for the moment we are on this. THINGS I KINDA WANT BUT HELP ME PICK SPECIFIC ONES: MAHJONG- In my brain, Saki, the thing with the pointy nose guy, and the one with the world leaders are all the same genre and competing over a single spot. Maybe throw Liar's Game in there since I've heard good things. Leaning Saki, but make some arguments. PRECURE- The gifs in user saveus_maria's sigs are strangely alluring. There are like fifty precures, right? But I want that one. And I once got him to tell me which it is but I've already forgotten. SOMETHING SHONEN- I am in a shonen-y mood. I DO have a library copy of Flame of Recca sitting in front of me, so maybe that? Gash Bell is....151, I think? It's lengthy, but completed. I have a hard enough time finishing little 13-ep things! >_> on that note let's get started I seem to have attracted more animoo people than pony people so despite me being in a pony mood we are kicking off with Hidamari Sketch Ep. 1 I dislike resuming things halfway through when I don't remember in detail what has happened. All I remember really about this series: -ART STUDENTS <3 -The genki is awesome. -Super chill, happy atmosphere -Addicting OP and ED. And yeah, all those things still seem to be the case! It's...pretty hard to write about this show because NOTHING HAPPENED. But it's...nice. I feel like it might get hurt because this time I am coming into it with much higher expectations than last time, but it WAS still pretty fun. I really like the art style, especially the way they do chibi-ish stuff. Miyako has pretty much the best faces of anybody ever =D Pretty good music direction as well. If the cosplaying teacher lady was this awesome before, I don't think I noticed it. SO MANY PHOTOS. AND SHE SQUEAKS WHEN SHE WALKS. I can already tell you that Hiro is going to be my least favorite. You have the DERPY GENKI, which is always a winner with me, the adorable if slightly cookie cutter heroine, and the glasses character, and....loldiets. Yomi was my least favorite in Azumanga, and unless there's a twist of some sort, Hiro's in grave danger of the same fate. But...I feel like none of them QUITE fit properly into the corresponding pigeonholes. I'll have to see how they develop and stuff. Episode actually made me a bit sad that we had such a mild winter. I watched 9 earlier today and it was hit or miss, but this ep was just pretty great. Every single thing Pinkie did was gold (I think the trombone lick at the very end takes the cake, but the one-pony band and all the apparent non sequitur were also pretty great) and I just got sidetraked by a single GIS. How are there THAT MANY Pinkie Pie/Deadpool fanarts ._. Anyway yeah. I was surprised to see Zecora again, as this so far hasn't been the type of show to reuse characters like that. Not sure how I feel about that. Zecora doesn't do much for me either way. Some of the little things just made me happy, like the RD/Fluttershy high five, Granny Smith's pitchfork, and Fluttershy FREAKING OUT when the first Parasprite showed up. Legend of Koizumi is alright if you're looking for pure comedy and aren't all that interested in actual Mahjong play. Gives the show a darker edge than I was expecting, and is a lot more believable than "HE COMES IN AND WINS EVERY HAND EVER BECAUSE GENIUS," which is what I was expecting. And yet, the amount of skill and testicular fortitude it takes to pull that is still very impressive. I'm curious how this is going to go in the future though. Now that we're in the world of "mahjong with YAKUZA" instead of plain ol' "he plays mahjong" I have to wonder how it will avoid the Yugioh trap. Presumably this is gonna piss off the yakuza, and judging from the tone so far, this show is going to stay primarily on the shady side of the city. I'm wondering what's going to prevent this guy from just plain getting shot when he beats enough of the wrong people. It’s one of the major reasons I gave this show a shot in the first place. Spike is…slowly winning me over. He started out as the only character I was even close to disliking, but he’s catching up with the rest of the gang the last couple of eps. For the record, current ranking is RD/Pinkie > Twilight/Rarity/Fluttershy > AJ. I have trouble coming up with a definitive order for the middle trio, and Dash v. Pinkie depends on my mood and what episode I’m watching. This song is going to be stuck in my head for like six months again isn’t it. I’m looking forward to some of the other ones, since I haven’t seen them. Rarity’s supposed to have a really good one, right? Are any of the singers the same as the voice actors? That always gets bonus points with me. Tomato juice for skunks! Good call. We're not that far into Smile yet and I'd already say it has potential to be the BEST one, and will very likely end up in my top 3 regardless of whether or not it maintains the high quality the first 6-7 episodes have had. Daily Lives is basically about the raddest dudes who go to an all-boys high school and their awesome adventures that you would expect normal Japanese kids to go on; constantly pulling pranks, taking shots at each other, making references to anime and video game pop culture, etc. then, there's the girls in the show which are literally insanely hilarious. instead of being portrayed like girls normally are in anime, every female character is basically an awful human being and a parody of how ridiculous anime tropes for females are. . . the best part being it is pulled off so well they are all amazingly entertaining, as well as the main male cast. all in all it's a pretty well executed and funny show, especially if you're into slice of life stuff that doesn't really have a plot but is just jokes and fun characters being fun. -- which one's green, broccoli or cauliflower? http://i.imgur.com/XxFPf.jpg <cite>saveus_Maria posted [p:927626] in Tom watche... Smile is by far the most saccharine of the Precures so far (disclaimer I haven't seen YES, HEARTCATCH, or 5 PRECURE) and its real advantage is that Candy is one of the best Fairy Guides in the whole set. That said, as a major fan of Akane, you'll likely love Cure Black from the original.
