I kind of wish it was side to side movement instead of up and down, though. That's the only thing that bugs me, and I'm not even really sure why it bugs me.

Probably just being used to playing it that way for so long.

It uses CC instead of TP.

Basically CC's a stamina gauge instead of MP. You can use as many artes as you want, but you need to stand still/guard between attacks for your CC to refill or by hitting enemy weak points. Guarding for also gives you an aura that lets you get more criticals or break enemy guard. And when a bar fills up it goes into some sort of burst mode where you can temporarily use artes without worring about CC.

Goes back to something like the line system but it's centered on the enemy and you move forwards/backwards and can dodge with a sidestep at the cost of CC.

There's also over a hundred titles for each character and you learn abilities or strengthen attributes by leveling them up with SP gained after battles and from requests.

And there's a couple item synthesis features, both combining items and putting attributes on equipment and you get a mixer that synthesizes items out of generic material under certain conditions like if your HP drops under a certain percentage in battle it would create a cooking item and use it automatically on you..

You don't have to stand still, you can run back and forth while CC recharged. Sidestepping takes CC though.

Nothing like that at all. I hated SO3 and so did everyone I know. We just played Graces 4-player for 10 hours and it's rockin'.

It's not as bad as the Fury system by far. You can combo longer than the Fury system allows, you can recharge CC by performing well in combat (sidestepping the moment you get hit for reduced damage + CC, etc), and since you can reposition yourself between combos, it's WAY more fun to play one of the ranged/support classes since you can actually play a little risky rather than wait for melee to stunlock and then bombard from a safe distance.

Oh and pretty much every character plays completely differently. Asbel's fighting style revolves around switching between fighting styles to alternately heal and use a very good instant skill, another character uses a f***ing rifle/staff hybrid to have long range melee attacks and quick but short range magic, a third seems to rely heavily on cancelling sword combos into quickly-casted magic, etc.

Yeah the battle system is a LOT better than it sounds.

CC recharges really fast, but not TOO fast, and you get more recharged instantly (and an expanded maximum in that combat) from pulling off awesome things like nick-of-time dodging, comboing enemies enough, etc.

Indeed. I especially love how playing Malik feels like you're basically artillery. He can lock down a small area completely from afar and has plenty of status effects and attack types, but a single enemy in his face ruins everything. The CC system even makes playing healers fun!
