here's the mix in my mind:

It's like CvS2 in that it has really good defensive options and it can be tough to get in sometimes. People called CvS2 a turtle game and this has some elements of that.

It's like Marvel 3 because once you do get in it's pretty easy to string together combos that take away half a character's life.

the only thing I think it has in common with 3S is the wakeup game. there's lots of hit confirms and lots of high low mixups, you have to guess which way to block especially online. guess wrong, and you lose half a character to those Marvel combos. I think that once we all remember to roll more often this will be minimized though and it'll have even less to do with 3S.

Is the analog stick sketchiness your only problem with the 360 version? I know you dislike the netcode as well but that'll probably be the same on both consoles right?

oh ok. I typed that right after I did my "walk up throw, then overhead, then down medium into super" thing on three wakeups. guess which way to block guys! 50/50 situations "the best." I like it in 3S because of the risk/reward mechanic there but it's annoying to me in this game and I assume it annoys other people as well.

I can't block low anyway! You could literally do that to me every time; I've lost entire matches that way, in fact! I think the blocking mechanics themselves are good, though. Weird, but good. I can't consistently block anything, though, which is frustrating because of the whole lose half your life thing.

Controls mostly, yeah. I think the netcode is bad, but I would expect that to be the same in both. Control problem is a total dealbreaker, though. It's too basic of a problem. I'm cool with advanced stuff being harder on it (like FADC > Ultra in SF4), but blocking is so big in this game that fighting with it isn't enjoyable. If it's an inherent game issue, and is the same on the PS3, then SFxT just probably won't be for me.

hm yeah. well in that case someone with a PS3 should test the analog stick there! I'm kinda curious how it feels, so when my buddy comes over tomorrow I think I'll play on 360 stock pad and try to use the analog stick. it probably won't go well but then I'll have a better idea of how that works.

I haven't used pad at all this game, analog or dpad. I've forced myself to play stick full time in SF4 and SFxT, though I'm still going back and forth between pad and stick on 3S because there's a lot more to relearn there. none of that on analog stick though, so I don't have any experience with how that feels. I think I may have tried once and couldn't do DPs and was like "**** this where's my dpad." you're braver than me.

I can't remember, you said you own a stick right? But that it takes a while to get used to? Maybe this can be a catalyst!

I haven't had blocking problems on stick since last time we all talked about it. I think I just don't understand some of the moves. Like that one forceful-looking kick you did with Kazuya a few times, I have no idea how to block that. But that's a me thing, I think blocking works fine on stick. so it probably isn't a game engine flaw at least!

Yeah, I understand high/mid/lows. I don't always block them, but I get those are part of the blocking mechanics. I think that's cool, it adds variety in how you can get in against people who just crouch all day. Also, I'm not even sure how you have to block his Ogre Kick. Maybe standing? It's pretty weird. I feel like you should have blocked it a couple of times and it hit anyway.

in any case I hope it works out. I think in the long run this game will bridge the gap between all of us! as it stands right now you guys are all way better than me at SSF4 and Shoe's the only B8er I've played who beats me a lot in 3S. SFxT is where we can all come together and meet somewhere in the middle.

Kazuya is hilarious. he literally has Ryu's normals. I can play him no problem just by pretending he's Ryu without specials.

ps3 version might help you because you'll be holding a clearer down-back. I'm thinking that you're not very precise with your blocking which is why you can't do it. you need to hold more back and less down, I imagine.

It worked for me and Cammy in SF4!

Also, I'm probably gonna mess around with Xiaoyu and Juri today. I do decently with cammy just because I'm familiar with her links and combos, but she just isn't very fun in this game. Her coolest combos are out of SBF, for crying out loud.

I'm not a big fan of Lili in general! Xiaoyu is pretty fun, but those stances. If you could get those down she'd probably be a cool character.
