you guys seem to be mixing up open-house parties with just regular parties

just having 7-8 people over with a few beers counts as a party

Yeah my house was terrible for a party, at least a rager.

It was only this year when I got a new house that is amazing for parties, and I've thrown like 30 parties already, but I'm not living with my parents so it doesn't apply.

Where's the option, "Yes, and I did it with their complete permission"? Or, alternatively, "No, I have never felt the need to do such a thing"?

Seriously, I'm 22 years old and they trust me not to burn the place down. What a goddamn stupid question.

I think that's what is being asked though. If it's basically what I do every weekend anyway, why do my parents need to be away?

Well I mean, when I've always lived either 15 minutes way from anyone, with driving being the only method of transportation, or in 1-2 bedroom apartments that don't exactly have the most sound-resilient walls.... It's always made much more sense to use the same friends' party-friendly houses repeatedly.

No, because I like smaller group. The most people (not counting family gatherings) I've had in my house were...5, including me? We played video games and ate pizzas. My parents were there though.

If you go above 4 video game consoles can't compensate anyway.

Yeah, it's bad enough that one of the guys hogged the PS2 for himself and we threw barely-concealed insults at him.

Yeah I don't get people who think it's fun to watch normal playthroughs of games. Sure if you're watching a speedrun or a Let's Play or whatever, that's fine, but there's a guy I know who literally invited me over to play Pokemon Black since I was waiting for it in the mail. What the hell is this?

This

When I was in high school, my parents were in a phase where they liked to camp and take little brief weekend trips to places and they flat out said "Let us know if you want to have a party here, we'll make that weekend one of our camping trips"

You just invite people over, and if there is any alcohol involved, the rest kind of takes care of itself.

Unless you're friends with idiots (which is hard to avoid in high school) it usually doesn't turn out too crazy though. I invited my close friends over a lot when my parents were gone, but it was usually just 4-6 people not including myself.

I've only thrown one actual party at my parent's house and it was a ****ing great night. It feels nice to provide the venue for a bunch of your friends to have a great time. My mom acted mad, but I honestly think she was kind of impressed to find out that I was popular enough to do something like that. At least that's what I like to think.

My mom was cool enough that if we wanted to have a party, we'd just have to tell her.

Of course I had 4 siblings, and one Aunt, so getting away with it would've been impossible in any case.

And of course making my mom mad was never a good idea, because she has this innate ability to make someone feel like they're exactly 2 feet tall, and 2 years old.
