Basically, I could offer people a really cheap alternative to getting a logo made for them. Small businesses could take a risk as well as places that are starting up. I could charge something like $20-$50 per logo.
I don't know. I had this dream where I did this. To me, graphic designers charge so much for the little that they actually have to do (some times). Sure, you have to sell yourself, but if it only takes me 1-3h making something, I could totally appeal to different audience.
People always come to me and say "I can't afford what graphic designers want" and a lot of the time, it is true. We were taught in school that you have to really charge a lot because people out there NEED you. bah.
Anyways, it is something I probably won't go through with, but it is a possibility!
Do you have any work samples you wouldn't mind posting? I could see this working is if you were really fast at it and still produced really good (if simple) work. I actually think this could be a really good idea to bring in extra money if you do it right.

And this is the thing, too. If you become too well-known too quickly and are too cheap, you could get overwhelmed with work and that will make you delay your work. You can only be cheap and fast working by yourself for so long before you need to hire someone else, increase prices, be slower, or stop.

I definitely could hire someone else! I am sure I will get applications before I even ask for them. But hey:
An individual or small company with small to average uses should be prepared to pay anywhere from $300 to $1500 for a top quality, professional logo design.
Definitely. Before and if I launch, I will make a gallery of 20 solid logos with organic, mechanic, clean, professional and whatever other kind of logo in it.
That's a good point, Zach, but I don't think when you are crafting the goods/service yourself, it matters, right?I could have like, three price tiers: 20, 50 and 100. Most people go into the process of looking for logos with a under $300 mindset, but have trouble!
I really just want to be accessible and do something relative to the diploma I have. I was thinking I only wanted to graphic design as a side-project anyways, so this could be a good idea for me.
$20-$50 seems a bit low, honestly. If it normally costs $300-$1,500, I'd charge $100-$200 for a logo of a similar quality. $50 for the really simple logos.
The other thing is that you wouldn't want to seem too cheap, either. You don't want people to believe that you're too good to be true.
Also, I would check to see if there is any regulation on graphics designers. I know it is illegal in some industries to charge below a certain amount for goods and services. I remember a story of a gas station undercutting everyone else in the area and they were ordered to increase their prices. I doubt that graphics designers face something like that, but I would check anyway.
EDIT: Never mind, I actually Googled "cheap logos" and found services offering them for $19 (with stipulation that you can't revise it) and $50.

It shouldn't be a problem. I was just stating it just in case.

I like that idea!

As a side project, those prices will be fine. I would think that you could get a lot of demand if you advertise it well.

It could be a good start into the graphic design world. When I think of the world of logo design, I think of 2-3 types of customers. 1, a company looking for a professional logo and are happy to pay what the market bears for a logo. 2, people looking to get a logo for free. And maybe the third, in which people just try to make their own logo and if it sucks, OK, it sucks. Is Illustrator the standard program for this?

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
Illustrator, yeah. I use photoshop if I need to add anything special to my logo, which usually isn't needed for logos as they need to be as versatile as possible.
This would have been awesome to have back when I was in Robotics. If you know of any local high school FIRST teams, you can probably get some business from them since each team chooses their own names and logos, and there's, well, thousands of them out there. I would have killed for a $50-$100 logo because ours was horrible for the three years I was in it. We had a grant from our school so we could afford it. Actually, hell, this'd be perfect for smaller school clubs that receive monetary grants of any kind.

I don't think calling it cheaplogos would work. I was just in the market for a designer and refused three of them based on their own logo and brand. It's graphic design, the entire brand matters, and you're immediately judged by first impression. When you're in the market for a logo, you're in the market for something creative. I ended up only paying thirty bucks for mine though, but that's because I got it from a friend of mine who has his own graphic design company. He's got a vinyl cutter thing too, so wooh stickers. But the quotes I was getting via email and Twitter were all starting at around $140 for a single logo. My buddy made me four, set up my site for me because I'm too astupid to do that, and taught me all about wordpress plugins. Aw yeah.
But yeah, cheap logos would work, I just think "cheap" being part of the brand hurts it more than it helps, even if that is the overall message.
EDIT: The logo quotes I was getting were from followers of mine on Twitter that were giving me friendly discounts and with full knowledge that what I needed was very simple and for a non-commercial site.
