I thought Fraiser and Friends ended the same year, with Frasier ending like a month and a ahalf earlier, hence why I said Freinds. But if Frasier went out a year later, than yes, it is Frasier.

It's weird because I say HIMYM, but I really think of it, The Office and Arrested Development as the beginning of the "new age" of sitcoms. It's like Sports Night in that it has a laugh track, but it would probably be better without it.

The Office is still gonna be considered a great sitcom because of it's early seasons even though it blows hard now.

Also, strange as it sounds, I've always considered Scrubs an anomaly. It's only direct lineage is Cougar Town. It's still great, but I don't really think of it as a defining moment.

Honestly, if I had to pick the most influential sitcoms of the past, say, 15 years, it would definitely be The Office, Sex and the City, Arrested Development and Always Sunny. Each one definitely has/had a definite impact on what we watch now, for better or worse.

Don't forget Malcolm in the Middle, which really kickstarted the whole shift away from the four-camera/laughtrack traditional sitcom style.

Malcolm in the Middle is sort of like Twin Peaks and a few other shows that seem to be looked upon more favorably well after they've ended than they were while they were airing

I can and I will. It is like the Goldeneye of sitcoms, as far as I'm concerned. It was great then, but it does not hold up well, especially compared to The Honeymooners and The Dick Van Dyke Show

I recall it being very well received in its time, and largely forgotten these days, oddly enough.

It also follows in the Seinfeld tradition of the ostensible lead character being by far the worst actor of the ensemble. <_<

Title characters often are.

Lucy, Seinfeld, Malcolm, Raymond, Murphy Brown, Two and a Half Men...

Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Frasier and Newhart are really the only exceptions

I should punch you in the face, saying Lucy was a bad actor.

Also, fans of Malcolm in the Middle should watch The Middle. It's like a spiritual sequel.

Ethel is. They overwrote for Lucy, which resulted in Fred and Ethel, being the lower-key members of the cast, getting all these great smaller moments
