Judd was about as loud and confrontational as NaOnka, but he certainly wasn't as mean. I highly doubt he would've knocked a one-legged person over for a hidden immunity idol, for instance. And he didn't have a negative outlook on absolutely everything ever. I wouldn't hesitate to say that NaOnka is the most negative person to ever play the game.

It seemed kind of unfair that they couldn't just have one of the guys sit out the rest of the challenge. If Kourtney had injured herself before the challenge that's probably what would have happened. It ended up not mattering in the end, but it still seemed like a pretty bad call, and that's probably why the girls acted ***ed at the guys.

I'm not one who always supports fierce people (Alicia is a ****ing *****), but I was definitely on Team Girls this episode. The guys were the ones that started the rift by stealing their stuff, and then refusing to make any deals with them. None of the girls seemed resistant to that idea except for Alicia really, but it seemed pretty uniform on the guy side. And then Matt had the nerve to say the girls should give them the chicken as an apology. For what? If they gave them the chicken what would they have to apologize for?

That's not how it works though, and I'm pretty sure that's never been the case. I remember Penner limping through challenges in Micronesia. I remember Jeff on Ulong injured his ankle in Palau, and had to still compete in challenges. Generally when people are injured, they'll just assign them some easy task if the challenge has one. Unfortunately for this challenge, there wasn't any really simple task, and they didn't want Kourtney to mess her arm up more by falling off the balance beam.

If they could just sit people out who were injured, then they could just apply that logic to anyone who sucks at a challenge, and say "oh ok, don't worry, you don't have to complete this challenge." Like Jeff said, 9 started, and 9 needed to finish. If someone is so bad, injured or not, that they can't finish the challenge, the fault lies on that person. He totally made the right call. What Jeff did poorly was to even ask the guys if they wanted to do the challenge over, despite obviously winning it. He just wanted to create drama, but there was really no reason for it.

But there was nothing about the challenge that required 9 people to complete it. In other challenges where people got injured they were able to theoretically complete the challenge. If 9 people were needed to complete the challenge, the women's tribe was unable to complete the challenge, even theoretically, so they should have rescheduled the challenge in case Courtney came back. In reality, she didn't, so it didn't matter, but if Courtney had returned then the women would have had to go to Tribal Council for a challenge they were unable to compete in.

Edit: The show was the one that said Courtney couldn't cross the balance beam. It's not like she tried and failed.

I think the whole thing was to create drama. They've been really inconsistent with injuries/ejections during challenges, as well as the consequences of medivacs during challenges, especially the past few years:

Samoa:
-Ben gets ejected from a challenge for roughhousing with Russell, Foa Foa has to compete with one less person. Additionally, and injured Mike has to continue competing. Mike is medivac'd but the losing Foa Foa tribe still has to vote out another member.
-Russell gets medivac'd during a challenge, Jeff calls the challenge off and declares it a draw. On a night where both tribes were supposed to vote someone out, now neither has to with Russell gone.

Heroes vs. Villains:
-James gets injured during a challenge, he gets pulled and the Heroes have to compete with one less person, despite Colby sitting on the sides having sat the challenge out, he can't be brought in.

One World:
-Kourtney gets injured, Jeff gives the guys the option to take their default victory or wait and see if Kourtney comes back. They take the default victory, but they would've been given it anyway. The "losing" Salani tribe does not have to vote out another member with Kourtney gone.

But anytime someone is doing horrible at a challenge, they can just say "I'm bowing out of the challenge so my team can finish it." It's not allowed for this kind of challenge. They all needed to finish it.

It depends entirely on the kind of challenge. In Penner's challenge, people needed to go into the water to get things. Penner stayed back on shore, and just helped people bring things up, instead of swimming out. Totally fine for that challenge. He could have laid down and done nothing if he wanted, because it was only hurting his team, but he didn't need to finish anything on his own.

In Jeff's challenge in Palau, people had to carry heavy bags, and try to chase the other tribe in a circle. When people couldn't carry anymore, they would drop out, and the rest of the tribe had to carry that same weight. He dropped out the second the challenge started. It hurt his tribe, but it was completely within the rules of the challenge.

In other challenges, like the one with Ben in Samoa, where he got kicked out of the challenge for breaking the rules. That was a team game where they had to score points. If someone got injured in that challenge, they could keep playing, because it only puts your team at a disadvantage.

The whole point is that the challenge that Kourtney got injured in was an obstacle course, and the entire point of that challenge was that every single member needed to get to the finish. It wasn't like the challenges listed above. Once she was injured, she was the equivalent of Daniel/Chris, who sucked so bad, they just couldn't get across. It would be unfair to excuse her, because that was the rules of the challenge.

Yeah. The Samoa ones were weird. There was no reason they should have had to vote someone out after Mike got medivac'd.

But this time, they actually did it the most logical way.

The men should have won in the sense that had the challenge played out the women would have been unable to get all of their members to the end since Courtney was not present, but that presents a paradox. Wouldn't not being able to participate in your team's immunity challenge disqualify you from the game? And if so, that means that Courtney would have been instantly disqualified the second that the challenge restarted, presumably leading the producers to end the challenge right then. If Courtney had actually returned it would have meant that she was able to remain in the game despite not participating in a mandatory Immunity Challenge, albeit one that the producers chose not to play out to completion. I mean the men would have most likely won, but it is theoretically possible for them to still lose the challenge if someone took hours to cross the balance beam, Courtney returning in the meantime.

Took me a minute to realize what you were even saying with this statement. haha.

I wasn't using "excuse" as the secondary definition for "allow to leave". Was using at as "remove blame from". It would have been unfair to the opposing tribe if they removed blame from her, just because she couldn't finish. It was just bad luck that it happened on a challenge that required everyone, unlike all the other examples where they weren't those kind of challenges.

Oh, Ok, Well my explanation basically boils down to:

IF the girls auto-lost the challenge Courtney must still be in the game, but
THEN if Courtney was still in the game but not participating in the challenge, she should have been auto eliminated for not participating in the Immunity Challenge.

Edit: or THEN they say that since the challenge requires all in-game people hitting the mat, and since Courtney's in-game status is in question the game must be postponed.

how? she injured herself in the challenge. that means she lost the challenge for the women. it would have been unfair for the men to do what you are suggesting. if someone comes to a challenge with a pre-existing injury but one that isn't bad enough to be evacuated, they have to play. Kourtney was saying she was really dizzy and lightheaded and didn't know if she would be able to cross and was lying down clutching her arm, so jeff made a good call in bringing in medical, who said they needed to take x-rays. at that point you have to take her out.

I haven't listened to either yet, but the description on Kourtney's says she was recently hospitalized and had a tumor removed from her abdomen that was then found to be cancerous. Everyone in the Survivor community please keep her in your thoughts.
