I'm definitely going with Jonas. He had a really positive tone, and wasn't overly or underly shown. He seems extremely aware of what is going on, and wasn't edited as someone who is dead-set in his opinions like half the cast was.

Also, no comment on the preview showing the same 2nd challenge that Vanuatu used. Which of course is another balance beam. In fact, it's the one challenge that men will never win on Survivor, where you have to pass by a whole row of people on a balance beam.

WOW crazy first episode... thoughts (potential spoilers obviously + calling stuff early >_>)

Tarzan and Troyzan? Really? Two people with the same gimmicky nomenclature? Both entertained me but I predict failure from both (of an epic variety from either one or also both). The way they talked to the women... should the tribes be shuffled, they are f***ed.

B8 has had a Christina boner all pre-season and I've been all "whatever she's an Asian chick" but I am sold. Her bargaining was excellent and her shutting down Alicia at tribal is enough to put her as my current #1. That was just f***ing awesome. Alicia went into tough girl mode and Christina verbally b**** slapped her with no fear or hesitation... and the whole time, the tribe didn't know if they had to vote or not. We all knew the outcome from the editting, but that was glorious.

Sabrina looks amazing as well, and that idol... Colton is an easy "oh this guy won't last" but he will. The preview of next week is a throw-off imo. When Sabrina says "Colton is a virus," I'm pretty sure the context will not be what the preview wants us to think it will be.

Colton, Sabrina and Christina are major players this season. The "Zans" I think will not be. I'm predicting Matt as Manono boot #1 (with or without that idol. I think Colton might even be able to pull it off without using it). Michael looks bad, Jay and Bill look less bad (but there's the whole guilty by association thing). Leif and Jonah look the best of the men (besides Colton).

If tribes get shuffled, I see a lot of the more confident people getting f***ed over (Alicia and her "more athletic women" crew will not hold. The Zans are f***ed and the younger, stronger male alliance is f***ed too and are editted to be a joke imo.)

Early prediction (and I doubt I'll be the first one to say this): Sabrina, Christina or Colton will win this season. The only other people I believe have a chance are maybe Leif or Jonah (with Nina being a well-concealed dark horse)

i actually didn't like Christina from the pre-season stuff, but she was pretty solid in the premiere. same with Michael.

My rivalry with SuperNiceDog turned out a bit one-sided.

OK though on this episode.

- Figures. My fav pre-show is the first one out. I knew about it before but w/e.
- I did not expect Sabrina to one of the major stars of the first ep but she was definitely my fav this episode.
- It's only one episode in but I'm already waiting for Matt's inevitable fall
- Colton is either going to have a great come around story or he's going to be like Kenny, gets too cocky and then gets blindsided.
- Jay might sound like Russell on helium but his voice isn't that annoying.
- I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure Bill is the only one who didn't get a confessional.
- Nina is the new Rick. Is mostly in the background but when she does get screen time sher makes hilarious faces.
- I guess everybody was wrong about Troyzan. He wasn't really OTT.
- Leif is not that bad. Jonas seems pretty chill too.
- Alicia is either going to make awesome tv like Sandra or be unbearable like Na'onka.

Overall great premier. But then again RI and SP had great first episodes too.

Wow, what a bizarre premier. And pretty hard for me too. Out of my three pre-season favorites, one got medivac'd, one got very little screen time, and one was completely invisible.

Already some Survivor records here:

1. First female medivac
2. First episode 1 medivac
3. First challenge that was declared a victory by default (I THINK. Somebody please correct me if that one's wrong)
4. First time men won the first challenge in a pure Men vs. Women season

Just watched the episode again. Going to post some random analysis stuff about the chances of winning:

High Chances

Jonas - The focus on him was unusual. They made a point to show him when they didn't need to. As long as he doesn't end up being a narrator, I think he's got one of the best shots. He even complimented Leif, who didn't receive much focus himself, which I believe also happened with Fabio saying something like that about Kelly B (due to her early boot of course. If they don't want us to like someone who they consider sympathetic due to an early exit, they'll make us like the person who sympathizes with them). I'm definitely keeping my eye on him.

Kim - The most dynamically developed of the women. She gave her opinions about numerous situations, weighing the pros and cons. She wants to go along with where the power is for now, because she knows it's smart, even though she said she doesn't really want to. I feel like she is being built as a smart player, and one for us to like. She could also be someone who jumps ship, ruining the game for numerous people, including herself. But I'm leaning more towards a long lasting player, and potential winner.

Jay - His edit was a little weird. He was in the group of 4 guys who were portrayed negatively, but he had his own thing going. He wasn't shown as really bad like Matt. He wasn't shown as devious like Michael. He wasn't ignored like Bill. There seems to be a reason why they showed him, but I'm not sure what it was. But it feels like he's someone who is going to last.


Average Chances

Troyzan - Hard to say. I think the next episode will be the most telling for him. He could still go into over the top mode, and become a huge character, who obviously won't win. But if he doesn't, I think it means he'll either get screwed over later, or be the winner, depending on the tone he gets with his underplayed antics. We'll see soon enough.

Monica - Was shown as positive, and got some focus, but doesn't seem to be a great spot in her tribe at the moment. Can't say.

Chelsea - I feel like she's supposed to be shown as positive, even though the content of much of her dialogue feels very double standard to me. Like if a guy said half the things she said, he'd be a villainous pig. But that doesn't change the fact that she's someone that we are supposed to root for. I don't buy her chances though. She's a physically strong female portrayed positively, but that happens a lot. Her chances are average.

Michael - Seems like he'll be one of the strategic forces of the season. I'm thinking something like Jim from last season, with a similar finishing position. Possibly the male villain of the season. But he could overcome this and be a game bot. I'm doubting it, but it's out there.

Low Chances

Leif - Reminds me of Kelly B and Keith. They could have easily exploited sympathy, and they didn't do it. I'm not liking his chances.

Kat - Shown as dumb, but didn't get that much focus. She just seems like a number in an alliance at this point. Could always change, but I don't see much potential either.

Nina - Not a whole lot of focus, and she's not in the main alliance. Probably an early boot.

Christina - Shown as logical, and one of the few not being irritating about the gender vs. gender. I feel like we are supposed to like her, and her getting booted soon will just be more fuel for why we should hate Alicia.

Tarzan - Seen as a character. I didn't feel like there was much depth to anything shown with him. Low chances of winning.



Unable to determine this episode due to circumstances:

Sabrina - Everyone knows that anytime someone finds an idol early on, they get a lot of attention. That was no different this episode. It really can't be said what will happen with her at this point. However, unlike some early idol finders, she at least is with a majority. I don't think she'll share a fate like Kristina, but it's impossible to really say due to the circumstances this episode. I still think she actually has a good shot though.

Colton - Due to the rules of the idol, he was effected this episode the same way Sabrina was. He had to have the attention, and it's hard to say what will happen with him. Although I'm thinking his chances are much less than Sabrina.



No Chances

Alicia - Way too negative and loud. They want us to hate her. She'll probably be the female villain.

Matt - Same as Alicia. But I don't see him lasting like I think she will. Reminds me more of Shannon with a potentially early boot.

Bill - Male who was practically invisible in the premiere, and had no confessionals. Doesn't seem like it matters how far he goes. He won't have much of an impact on the game, and definitely won't win.

This season is looking like a lot of fun. Alicia is amazing. Matt's a ****in tool. Colton's annoying. Kat's dumb. I like Sabrina, Chelsea, and Kim. None of the other guys made much of an impression yet, but I'm not a big fan of the frat boy alliance. Jonas seems cool though.

Aside from the tragedy of one of my favorite players having to leave with injury in the first episode, this season is off to a good start. No more returning players hogging the spotlight, no redemption island bull****.

...and after only one episode, I already ****ing hate Matt. Every time he opens his mouth I want to punch his face in.

Matt was starting fights too. He only did it in a calmer voice. Otherwise, they're the same.

But why should I act surprised that loud volume is the only thing that gets your attention.

Edit: Actually, if the guy was loud, it still wouldn't matter. You only like loud females. Prove me wrong with examples, and I'll be content.

If a bulk of their screen time seems to deal with negative conflict, and the contestant is often confrontational to the point of raising their voice, or talking down a lot. The people you listed had more screen time focusing in other areas for the most part.
