Rules: There may be spoilers for all seven books and 8 movies Each match will last for exactly 24 hours. Any votes after that point will not count. Discussion is encouraged but not required. Make sure all of your votes are obvious. I should know who you are voting for, basically don't bury your vote in the middle of a paragraph. No alt-voting. Ties will be replayed the next day with the rest of the matches. No vote-saves or rallying for specific characters. Telling people to vote is encouraged but don't tell them how to vote! road to division semi-finals (1)Minerva McGonagall defeats (16)Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Jr. 19-8 (1)Minerva McGonagall defeats (8)Quirinus Quirrell 20-1
I'd put Barty Jr. over Moody himself, and I'm bummed that I missed his match vs Minerva earlier because that's one I'd actually have to ponder over. Moody is a cool character, but we just hardly see any of him. We see him impersonated for an entire book so...maybe we know what he's like?

Crouch Jr. is better than Moody. If they were both the same person then this would be a pretty close match, Moody in books 5-7 isn't nearly as good as McGonagall

Minerva, I feel has a lot of unused potential. After not showing up in a single major battle (before the final one) and both Harry and Dumbledore refusing to share their secrets with her--highly suspicious...it turns out that she...err...actually was just loyal to Dumbledore the whole time.
I was also seriously disappointed with her movie representation. My mental image of McGonnigal was...much closer to Ms Hardbroom from Worst Witch:
Movie McGonnigal just feels like such a softie compared to my childhood memories of Hardbroom, which is how I imagine McGonnigal when I read the character.
At the same time, real-Moody isn't as cool as fake-Moody. He does have one very awesome scene where he intimidates Dursley, but not a whole lot else.
McGonigal's awesome scenes are like...standing up to Umbridge, dueling Snape, fetching "wood", telling Neville that his grandmother failed Charms and he should take the class.
Well...4:1 in the awesome scene count. I...guess I vote for McGonigal? I would, (and did) vote for Barty Crouch Jr over McGonigal, but real-Moody doesn't have the same personality as the fake, including a lot of the stuff that makes the fake likeable (such as flattering Harry regularly).

Man, so much Hardboom nostalgia...I feel like watching more.

(1) Professor Hardcastle McCormick As someone stated in a previous round, Moody's imposter was for more interesting than the real deal, nd that is pretty sad. Good old Softcastle McCormick also has some really great lines and power plays in the books, plus she can animagus into a cat. If someone hasn't written fan fiction involving her, Mrs. Norris and Crookshanks yet, then get on it!
and easily. Glad to see it's completely unanimous so far (up to MZero's vote). I don't really get that "wasted potential" feel from McGonagall, but to each her own. Anyway I find the concept of Moody flawed. As I've said before he essentially causes his own demise- not in the "noble sacrifice" way, but in the "uncharacteristically risky gamble that was doomed to not pay off" kind of way- and for that I will never like him as much as his imitator, let alone this badass old broad.
