Did not expect Wipeout after the first 5, but it's appropriate enough.

Wow, that is a really good article actually. Many things I've considered before.

This line sealed the deal.

This is presumably why even risk-averse contestants usually react to the first offer as though the banker just told them they could wash his balls for $20.

Let's be fair to the lady playing Deal or No Deal. She was playing the percentages, and THAT is what bit her in the ass. She had more low-money cases out than high money, and even if she assumed she had the .01 case, then it was a 50/50 shot... then 3/5... well, it didn't work out for her.

I was kind of hoping Friend or Foe would make the list. There's absolutely no logical reason to pick 'Friend' in that show at all.

And to be fair to the Wipeout example, you get a time penalty for intentionally failing an obstacle. The best strategy seemingly would be to pretend you're actually trying and wipeout as soon as you can without letting them catch on.

Regis hasn't been on Who Wnats to be a Millionaire in ages.

Also, I don't completely agree with your Wheel of Fortune strategy. First, the best strategy is to not suck at the earlier rounds so it doesn't matter if someone wins the final spin. Second, the final spin round often happens midway through an existing round, at which point you've got advance information. But let's ignore that and say that the game is in a three-way heat, the last spin occurs at the start of the round, and you're on the button. You could...
A) Pick E, which would be dirt-stupid since vowels earn no money and you still won't solve the puzzle, but thanks for helping everyone.
B) Pick T, which is the consonant equivalent of picking E, but at least you'll pad your total a bit for when the round comes back to you since, let's face it, the round is VERY rarely solved before it goes around once. And once it goes around once, the disadvantage of going first is gone, and you've cost yourself a chance to add to your bankroll.
C) Pick a completely stupid letter to purposefully waste your turn. Either you'll reveal that there's an X in the puzzle (and still have no idea what it is,) making it easier for everyone to eliminate things without Xs in them, or you get no gain.
D) Pick a mid-range letter, like P or D. You have a more likely chance of getting nothing, or of revealing the puzzle for others. The worst of both worlds.
E) Pick a letter that has a high probability of being in a particular position anyway. If the category is "What am I doing?", you pick a G, because one of those words is going to end in I-N-G. It's simply always true, but G reveals less than N. If the category is "Things," you take an S, since the last word is probably plural and therefore likely ends in an S anyway. Sure, S is common, but you'll be spotting yourself the obvious one for cashmoney, and there might well not be another. If the category is "Person," try an R, as the word very likely could be a type of person, like an astronomER or a bakER or a surveyOR or any other professional ending in R. Not every category affords this opportunity, but this is the most advantageous option. Barring this, and the knowledge that your opponents still won't guess the puzzle with one letter apiece, go with choice B.

I approve of the rest, though. The Jeopardy one should be obvious. The Deal or No Deal one should be obvious. The Wipeout one should be obvious. The Millionaire one is because they try to pick people whou would (and encourage people to) talk out loud or else the show is a lot less interesting to watch. Once you use the audience lifeline, which people always use first for some dumb reason, it's significantly less important. The Weakest Link one (do they still have Weakest Link?) is questionable considering there could be one group dumbass that it makes sense to bank in preparation for consistently, but otherwise I generally agree. Still, banking after a couple makes a little more sense than banking after each unless you simply never get consecutive questions answered.

Of course, there's nothing stopping all three contestants from adopting this strategy, turning the speed-up round into the Mexican standoff round as they scrape their way through the bottom half of the alphabet.

I want to see this happen now.
