Y'all nominated 100 Pokemon, and now, I'm gonna rank them! I think this lineup is every bit as good as last year's, so don't be surprised if some really solid Pokemon show up early in the countdown; the competition is fierce.
The rankings will begin shortly! And if you want to see the nomination thread for some reason, here's the link:
#100: LARVITAR Originally nominated by: Kirbydamasta Made its debut in: Pokemon Gold/Silver Type: Rock/Ground
-Hoo boy, I'm not looking forward to the backlash from this. >____> In my defense, I don't hate Larvitar; his bottom-last placement has more to do with the fact that y'all didn't nominate any truly terrible Pokemon. Tyrogue, Silcoon, Simipour and their ilk weren't nominated, so instead, the #100 spot has to go to a Pokemon that probably wouldn't even be in my bottom twenty.
But still, I have to be honest: Larvitar has bugged me from day one. The fact that it's a pain in the ass to catch probably has something to do with it, but moreover, I just don't like its design at all. I'm not a fan of the "chubby little punk" angle Game Freak was seemingly going for. Its evolutions are freaking awesome, though; Tyranitar is truly a beast, and I'm a bigger Pupitar fan than I probably should be.

#99: REGISTEEL Originally nominated by: Wicklebee Made its debut in: Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Type: Steel
-It's weird. I actually think Regirock, Regigigas and (particularly) Regice are pretty cool... but I couldn't possibly care less about the last member of the quartet. You know a Pokemon is boring when its only noteworthy trait is... its apparent tendency to do the Nazi salute.

#98: MISMAGIUS Originally nominated by: todbot1 Made its debut in: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Type: Ghost
-I've always found Misdreavus to be really cool in a weird way. Maybe it's because, at the time of its debut, it was vastly different from the other Ghost-types available; or maybe it's because it had an awesome gimmick move, Pain Split. Either way, I've always liked it a lot, and when I used it on my HeartGold team, I was excited to see its new evolution.
When I saw Mismagius for the first time, though man, the hype deflated in an instant. Its design is just such a colossal step down - while Misdreavus looks like a sneaky yet endearing little will-o'-wisp, Mismagius just looks like a lame witch-ghost thing. It's useful in battle, I guess, but man! It left a bad first impression on me, and it's failed to grow on me since then. Sorry, Mismagius fans.

#97: MAGMAR Originally nominated by: SpeedYoshi Made its debut in: Pokemon Red/Blue Type: Fire
-Though certainly better than its hilariously bad evolution, Magmar is still one of the weakest members of The OG 151, without question. It's just such an eyesore - the ass-shaped forehead, the completely incongruent beak, the poor sprites it gets, etc. It rips **** up in-game, though, especially in Gold/Silver; it's waaaaay too good to be obtainable so early in that gen.

#96: TAILLOW Originally nominated by: Dragon66116 Made its debut in: Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Type: Normal/Flying
-This guy makes Pidove look like stunningly unique by comparison. Seriously, there's nothing particularly objectionable about Taillow, and it's one of the stronger Pokemon available early in RSE... but I still can't shake the feeling that it's an off-brand mix between Pidgey and Spearow. Kind of like how generic cola tastes like a flat mixture of Coke and Pepsi, y'know?

#94: GURDURR Originally nominated by: Raka_Putra Made its debut in: Pokemon Black/White Type: Fighting
-And with that, all five gens are represented! Honestly, I actually liked Gurdurr at first (to Gen's chagrin), but its appeal has waned over time - it really is just a less cool Machoke. Don't get me wrong, though; I still think Timburr and Conkeldurr are boss.

#93: MUDKIP Originally nominated by: Dragon66116 Made its debut in: Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Type: Water
-Up until the day "Arrow in the Knee" reared its ugly head, "so i herd u liek mudkips?" was easily my pick for the most obnoxious gaming-related meme out there. Anyone who ever went on Nintendo's old NSider forums can back me up on that - the meme's supporters there spammed it like nobody's business.
Needless to say, my opinion of Mudkip dropped quite a bit as a result. Really though, I didn't think he was that great to begin with - he's a clear pick for "worst Water starter." On the bright side, though, he can be pretty cute at times (though he suffers from "bad sprite syndrome"), and his evolutions absolutely rock.

I thought there were more Ghost types back in the Gen II days, for some reason! Guess not. But yeah, Misdreavus is really different from the Gastly family, I think - it's a lot friendlier-looking, and its playstyle is quite a bit different as well.
mnkboy907 posted... Ew, Latios waaaay too cool for 95. Though not as terrible of an opinion as Glalie at 100 (that was your list, right?).
Yep. :P I don't like Glalie at all. Froslass is legit though.

You remember too?!? Haha, nice!

#92: SMOOCHUM Originally nominated by: xx521xx Made its debut in: Pokemon Gold/Silver Type: Ice/Psychic
-Smoochum's actually a pretty cool gimmick Pokemon in HeartGold's Battle Factory, and she certainly isn't one of the worst Baby Pokemon; she's streets ahead of Happiny and Tyrogue, for instance. But even still, c'mon. She's a Baby Pokemon. Even the best one, Elekid, is merely "good"; and Smoochum is no Elekid.

I remember you couldn't even post DS friend codes there, because it was considered personal information. Literally unable to post Nintendo-related information on Nintendo's official forum.

Oh man, the memories. People were freaking PISSED about that... and rightfully so, maybe. That was a hilariously bad rule.
You also had to make over 1,000 posts before you could have a signature, too. How crazy is that?
-- Hey, you ever coming back? You kidding? I am Queens Boulevard.
And it took 4,000 posts to be able to edit messages. And I think it was nearly 10,000 posts just to be able to delete them. And the worst thing is I never thought there was anything weird about that.

It didn't strike me as all that odd either! As a kid posting on a message board for the first time, I just shrugged and thought "Well, I guess this must be standard protocol."
That's why I always laugh whenever someone complains about this site being ass-backwards, or too strict... because compared to NSider, this place is as lax as 4chan!

#91: BIDOOF Originally nominated by: mcflubbin Made its debut in: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Type: Normal
-Like Mudkip, Bidoof suffers from its association with an overused meme... though fortunately, Bidoof's meme is nowhere near as insufferable as "so i herd u liek mudkips" was. In spite of that, the little guy still doesn't have a whole lot going for him, aside from being sort of cute. His evolution is a step down in terms of design, he's not particularly useful (even compared to Rattata, Sentret and other early-game Normal types), and he really should be a Normal/Water type like Bibarel. Considering Pokemon DPP has a lot of cool Pokemon available early on - Kricketot, Shinx, etc. - is there really much reason to use this guy?

#89: SWELLOW Originally nominated by: mcflubbin Made its debut in: Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Type: Normal/Flying
-Design-wise, Swellow is every bit as bland as its pre-evo... but on the bright side, it actually does have a neat niche as a Normal/Flying Guts user. Thanks to Guts, a solid base Attack stat and a phenomenal base Speed stat, Swellow can be a wrecking ball if used correctly; it's certainly more powerful than many of its Normal/Flying peers. Pidgeot, Fearow, Braviary, etc. really don't have anything on this guy.
It really is a shame that it doesn't have a better design. If it did, it would have done immensely better in this ranking.
