-Shinx appears to be a homage to Kimba the White Lion; they look pretty similar, and even Bulbapedia has taken note of the resemblance. That in itself is quite cool, but Shinx is also notable for being one of the few Electric Pokemon available early in its gen: as far as I can recall, the only other ones are Pikachu (Gen I) and Mareep (Gen II). The Pikachu line is quite a hard one to top, obviously, but I think Shinx's line is even better than Mareep's... which is really saying something, considering how awesome Ampharos is!

It wouldn't be as effective as Wondertomb or something, but still, would Speed Boost Cofagrigus be ridiculous or what?

-It's not as lovable as Quagsire, as beastly as Gastrodon, or as pimpin' as Whiscash... but Swampert is still legit (and streets ahead of Seismitoad, for the record). With the possible exception of Empoleon, Swampert is probably the most durable of the starters' final evos: its defensive capabilities are terrific, as its stats are really solid and its typing is exceptional. It's quite a potent attacker as well, especially in Gens IV and V; the physical/special split definitely helped its cause. There aren't a lot of starter Pokemon I'd consider using on a serious team, but Swampert is one of them.

Nah, because it could still be revenge killed/stopped after a boost or even two.

Even at +2 with max speed and a boosting nature it doesn't outspeed neutral natured, +0 Weavile by my count. It's too slow for even Speed Boost to save it!

But yeah there are Pokemon that would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps Hippowdon, who can outspeed neutral Mence, for example, at +1

Originally nominated by: todbot1

-A million times cooler-looking than Scyther, and more useful to boot. Ever since it got the Technician ability, it's become one of the most feared Pokemon in OU; it has the perfect movepool for that ability, and its fantastic defensive typing makes it a very well-rounded Pokemon that can fit on almost any team. Even in Ubers, Scizor isn't dead weight by any means - Technician-boosted Bullet Punch is just that good.

It's still not one of my favorite bugs - that type is stacked with good Pokemon! - but c'mon, Scizor is legit. Who could deny that?

The first time I played Pokemon Ruby, I didn't even consider the other two starters - I went right for Treecko. I actually do like Torchic as well, but of the three, I consider Treecko the most unique and well-designed by a decent margin. It's a shame that its direct evolution is so lame, though... but hey, at least Sceptile is awesome!

-It's odd. I loved Venomoth back in the RBY days, but even though it's gotten better since then (particularly in this generation), I've steadily lost interest in it. It's still pretty cool, though, and a great abuser of Quiver Dance; which was surely one of the best new moves Gen V introduced.

-What a defensive BEAST. Its physical bulk is downright incredible, its typing rules, and even its special defense is quite good after a sandstorm boost. Skarmory is one of those Pokemon that can fit really well on just about every team - the only reason he's not higher is because his design isn't anything too exciting. It's good, but nothing especially inspired, I suppose. In spite of that, I still enjoyed his underdog run in the Save My Flying Type contest. :D

-Its design certainly isn't as striking as several of its Dragon-type peers - such as, say, Druddigon or Rayquaza - but Haxorus is still a neat Pokemon and a straight-up steamroller. 147 Attack and 97 Speed is no joke - this guy is a force to be reckoned with, especially if you hand him a Choice Band. It's also the only Pokemon that knows Mold Breaker and can be used to great effect in OU, so it has several interesting niches to its name. Axew may be lame as hell, and Fraxure may be peculiar... but it's worth training them to get to this guy.

He was perhaps the first bug Pokemon to legitimately be capable of leaving a dent on the opponent's team; his stats are exceptional, and for a while, he was the only Pokemon who could learn Megahorn. Nowadays, he doesn't stand out quite as much - but he's still a really solid, fun Pokemon to use.

-A Rock/Psychic-type Pokemon based on... the sun? A Pokemon this bizarre had to end up becoming a Bosco favorite. I've always been a sucker for Rock-types, and Solrock's no exception: it has a neat movepool, an appealing design and a stellar Shiny form. Lunatone ranks higher on the list, since it's actually somewhat useful in battle; but in spite of its lack of usefulness, I can't help but like Solrock quite a bit.

Fun Fact:
Aside from event legendaries, Lunatone was the only Pokemon in Gen III I was unable to obtain normally across my collection of Ruby, LeafGreen, FireRed, and Emerald. So annoying, so I ended up hacking myself one so I could have a complete Pokedex. Without my AR or using the GTS, I would've had to wait until HG/SS to get one legitimately.

It's also pretty lame that it can't learn Power Gem.

#59: MANECTRIC
Originally nominated by: MycroProcessor

-One of the most underrated Electric-type Pokemon, no doubt about it... though the less said about its pre-evo, the better. Manectric's design is the main point in its favor - its color scheme is really cool - but it's also notable for having a lot of Fire-type moves in its arsenal. Most Electric-types don't have access to moves like Flamethrower and Overheat, so it gives Manectric a nice little niche. Its Speed stat is really solid, too; one of the best in the lower tiers, I'd imagine.

#58: CRUSTLE
Originally nominated by: swordz9

-Gen V was very, very kind to the Bug type, and Crustle is one of the reasons why. He's a crab-of-all-trades, having access to support moves like Spikes and Stealth Rock, as well as several of the best stat-boosting moves in the game. Shell Smash and the Sturdy ability complement each other perfectly, and he can also make good use of Swords Dance, Rock Polish and Curse. His typing isn't great, and his Special Defense could be better... but even if Crustle isn't one of the best Bugs in the game, he's certainly one of the most unpredictable.

-Looking back, it's really weird how Gen II's only new Ghost was confined to the very last area in the game... but ultimately, Misdreavus was well worth the wait. Her design is terrific, and she has great sprites to match; and her off-kilter movepool - which includes such strange moves as Pain Split, Perish Song and Destiny Bond - makes her a true original. She's one of the better non-evolving Pokemon out there, for sure (Mismagius doesn't exist).

Originally nominated by: XIII_rocks

-Gen IV had way too many legendaries, and the vast majority of them were rubbish from a design perspective. Darkrai was a welcome exception. Him and Shaymin clearly stood above the rest of the pack; indeed, many Pokemon are intended to be badass, but Darkrai is one of the few that actually is. It's also notable for being the only Dark-type legendary, which is kind of surprising - you'd think the Dark type would lend itself quite well to legendary Pokemon designs.

Access to the superb Unaware ability, a base 114 Speed stat, nifty support moves like Roost, Knock Off, Taunt and the dual screens... indeed, a quick glance at Smogon's analysis unveils some cool surprises. Lillipup, however, doesn't fare quite as well in my eyes, but I still like it a good deal. It's a wonderful choice for an in-game Gen V team, as it evolves early, has useful abilities, and learns powerful moves such as Bite and Take Down early. It's also cute, if not as much as fellow puppy Growlithe.
