19% increase for men over 12% increase for women. There are plenty of reasons why 16-19 yo females wouldn't be interested. The important factoid is that the stat for men is climbing at a faster rate. I'd like to see the stats for 20 and up, though.

i think gender roles are just becoming blurrier and grayer throughout the world, and this is causing some "growing pains" with the current generations of youth.

Technology over the past 10 years has changed so much, and i do agree with the small segment about how "virtual worlds" are possibly a factor in creating these changes.

not claiming its a bad thing, just stating how it is. Equality is good, the freedom to do what you want is great.

But it could potentially make it very difficult to find love since everyone now can be who they want to be, and not what society forced them to be (and whats attractive).

You see it in the USA a lot too. Every year it seems some woman writes a report on why she thinks women's happiness is actually declining when they are becoming more powerful and have more opportunities than ever.

what garbage? That women are actually less happy than ever? Its true. Every study has shown that women's happiness has been declining since the mid/late 80s, while men's happiness is just staying pretty constant.

I think that's a pretty simplistic view of this situation. A lot of people talk about how men have gotten weaker over the last couple generations. From that article it sounds like Japan is ahead of the curve. We're aware that generally women aren't attracted to that, and low birthrates are the result.

It's a really big issue in Japan, but a similar thing is happening across the western world as well. The most successful countries are going to be those that produce children, clearly that isn't happening there. This isn't an issue of equality, that's just a small piece of the current gender relations situation.

many speculate that its because they are still doing a lot of the housework, but are taking up more hours in the workplace. Men still work more hours a week on average, but after work hours they seem to not do as much of the second shift.

Overall men and women do seem to do similar hours per week on non leisure activities (work, housework, time with kids, etc all combined), but women seem to be doing their work spread out over more time. Meaning men are getting longer bursts of leisure but longer bursts of work. Women on the other hand have less bursts of stress, but have to deal with having some form of stress for longer periods of time.

I guess to clarify, some say women are less happy than ever because they are getting less time to recharge through their busy lives. Men do more of a grind it out for longer periods of rest style.

have men really become more evolved though? I mean men are going to college in fewer and fewer numbers. Men are going for advanced degrees in fewer and fewer numbers. Men are becoming more and more unemployed as we leave the industrial economy that defined america for decades.

I think what we are seeing is women have more, so it takes more for a man to impress them. Women, despite wanting equality in the workplace, want men who are better than them. Men are shallow pigs when it comes to the looks department, but women are shallow *****es when it comes to thinking they are entitled to a man whose older than them and makes more money.

i think the term "beta male" is defined in so many different ways on the internet that i dont like using it. But i do agree despite us saying whats politically correct, men and women do seem to enjoy some form of gender roles and that we are "stuck in our animal ways" quite a bit.

I have yet to meet a woman who wants to enter a long term relationship with a younger guy who makes less money than them. Sometimes you see women date younger men for sex or because they dont want to be straight up alone, but rarely do you see women actually consider the younger, less career evolved man for a long term relationship. This is despite the fact that women have no real need anymore to find a man to take care of them financially anymore. Especially considering that women are better educated and actually are the majority in the workforce now.

I wish i could find this study i read a few weeks ago, but it said that women are more willing to share one man with multiple women rather than have a man they think is "beneath them" for herself. I believe it too, as my university was 62% female and yet every yearly poll by the sociology and statistics club said there were more single men on campus than women. Of course women may lie about stuff like this more i suppose.

The rise of modern life only occurred in the last 100 or so years, and 100 years will not change the tens of thousands of years of evolution. It is kind of hardwired in the DNA for babes to like masculine and manly men because in the old times they can better provide them with food and money. That is no longer true in many cases today, but the same DNA is still there. I mean what motivates babes to constantly press & rub themselves against me on trains/buses? It's not my Ipad or my $100 sunglasses that attracts (unless they are aiming to dig gold which is unlikely) but they dig my pure masculinity and also my Six pack and my Sword.
