I get what Jericho meant by "end of the world as you know it" now (I wasn't too surprised, either) but that understanding doesn't necessarily imply satisfaction. It's just not a very satisfying direction for the character given the ways he could've gone.

i agree that it's not a very satisfying way to go and feels more like the same exact story's continuing. had he won the rumble it would've been a bigger deal since he'd have more ammunition to play with.
but he'll still be the WM guy because hey, last one from Raw.

punk/jericho will be amazing to watch. not just the match, but the build up. if for no other reason the two through sheer force of will will make it better than anything else on the card and build it up that way.

If this is the logic than he's pretty dumb because everyone uses this gimmick to a certain extent.

But Punk has (or at least in Jericho's eyes) blatantly copied Jericho in that regard. Every now and then people talk about how good they are but few people are as candid as Punk is about being "the best in the world".

The other person who says it that explicitly? Chris Jericho.

Punk's character revolves around being the Best in the World (as well as being outspoken). Other wrestlers usually just say they are better than the guy they are feuding with, or pretty good. Punk wears that moniker like a crown - and now he even has the title to back it up. That's the difference between Punk/Jericho and everybody else.

Can't do that without screen time, which I'm just not sure they'll give them an ample amount of. I mean how many promos have you heard Punk cut in the last two months? I'm sure just on the sheer quality of their matches alone (assuming no ridiculous finishes are booked) this feud will be one of the best on the card, but I have a feeling they won't have the screen time to make it amazing. Hope I'm wrong, though!

I haven't really seen a gimmick like Jericho's before, this "progenitor" gimmick. It's game-changing in that it's somebody actively attacking what Punk's character has been about ever since he became this megastar. How his claim to be the "best in the world" is actually a bit short-sighted, given that he's never wrestled the original "best in the world".

This whole thing falls apart when you realize that the same phrase was used totally differently by Jericho. Punk's "best in the world" is something his character actually backs up by showing himself to be legitimately one of the very best there is. Jericho's "best in the world" was always the delusional ramblings of a guy who just wouldn't shut up even though he was never, EVER (to quote his old self) on that level or even close to it. Punk isn't ripping anything off - he's being what Jericho pretended he was because it was easier to say he was "the best in the world at what he does" than to acknowledge that he'd just gotten his ass kicked by an irrelevant mid carder for the third time that month.

punk, with little screentime, managed to successfully build punk/orton and that was before he was red hot. due to jericho being the other party he ends up being tied for 2nd right now with cena/rock (because cena's busy with kane now and fact is it's not like rock is doing much to help it anyway). like sure it's not gonna get the sickening exposure hhh/taker will, but it will be their 2nd biggest and best built feud.

Well yeah, that is true. I've just felt underwhelmed by Punk. Maybe it's just that when he was a heel, what little screen time he had was used for great heel moves like threatening Orton's wife. As a face so far, the only memorable thing he's done this entire title reign was tear into Laurinaitis after the six man tag match, which they really didn't even get to expand upon because they had to completely rework that feud to pave Triple H's return. (Man, Trips is screwing Punk at every damn opportunity.) I just get the feeling he's a better heel than baby face. Or at least a better tweener like he was during the feud with Cena.

Jericho is a 6-time world champion, the first Undisputed Champion and a record-holding Intercontinental Champion. The actual CIRCUMSTANCES of all of those wins have been 3MR'd (...considerably 3MR'd) so he certainly has some claim.

And in any case Jericho last night sounded delusional. Trying to say Truth had copied him because he said "shut the hell up" first is kind of ridiculous.

So if he was delusional before, he's delusional now and Punk will show him that when they eventually meet.

The difference between Jericho and most people is that Jericho is so talented in the ring, I'm willing to totally ignore the fact that most of his world title wins involved someone else doing the dirty work without Jericho having planned it.

And I mean hey, he actually beat Punk clean in a steel cage match to defend the title after he won it post-Punk vacancy, and it's pretty big news when any non-monster heel wins a title match clean.

I feel the same way Punk comes off as preachy and annoying as often as he comes off cool and edgy.

Of course part of this is probably because i cant help but feel bad for Big Johnny because hes never felt like a villain in all of this. Just a corny middle manager guy with good intentions and no original thought.

And yeah, I daresay that TNA has the incredible distinction of being arguably better than both WWE and ROH at the moment.

IMO all 3 are very close, WWE and ROH both having good stuff counter-balanced by horrible stuff, and TNA just being consistently solid at all things non-Eric-Young-related.

The next 3 PPVs are key. Against All Odds, Elimination Chamber, and Tenth Anniversary Show. Whichever company delivers best on their next major show is in the lead heading into March.

EDIT: A tie goes to ROH since their show is only $10. <_<

Its funny to think for me the moment it went from WWE being in the lead to TNA being in the lead, it was a PPV non-finish at Genesis <_<.

If TNA delivers at AAO, it's over. WWE is literally is 2nd or 3rd place qualitywise.

That might be premature, Elimination Chamber is only 7 days later, I'm willing to give WWE their rebuttal.

They haven't burned off their awesome cred from TLC just yet. If they botch that PPV then it's gone, but they haven't had 2 bad Chamber matches in the same night ever yet!

We may very well be living in some bizarro world where WWE puts on the more consistently decent in-ring product but TNA has better, more logical booking.

But to TNA's credit, it's not just Roode. They've built Aries strong, they've built Gail Kim strong, and they've even created a compelling Tag Team title feud in a company with no tag teams.

They spun THREE DIFFERENT ANGLES off of that Wild Card tag team tournament (Joe/Magnus gelling as a team, AJ/Kaz rift, EY/ODB relationship), and furthered a fourth (Abyss/Immortal). That's not just good booking, that's GREAT booking, even if one of the angles is a poor attempt at comedy.

If you just ignore the fact that they have no clue how to use the TV Title (it seriously is the least prestigious title in wrestling right now, even less so than the Knockouts Tag Titles), they're otherwise on an awesome roll.

And shock of shocks, it all began when Russo took a backseat in creative.
