Yeeeeeah, the story mode in SCV was incredibly disappointing. I would've been much more satisfied if they just gave us rival fights and arcade endings like the good ol' days. It doesn't help that there's nothing else in the game to convey story or explain, well, anything. I can forgive Namco for this, I think, since they focused more on great gameplay and a fantastic netcode.

Considering even Guilty Gear was a parade of stereotypes and cliches presented with absolutely no shame whatsoever, I don't know why you'd expect different of BlazBlue.

blazblue's plot isn't that hard to follow....Ok calamity trigger was but that was kind of the point the novels / extra stuff shed some light on some things (still waiting on BB3 damnit)

Apparently Namco only gave Project Soul less than a year to do this game, so thank god they decided to use that time to make an actually solid fighting game instead of adding a bunch of dumb single-player crap. If story had to be sacrificed for this then so be it

I think my favorite part is when Viola tells Patrokles in fairly clear terms to be wary of his sister, and then he complains about how much she speaks in riddles, even though this is literally the first thing she's said in the game. I get the feeling they intended like another scene or two between Viola's introduction and when she finally actually speaks, but then they realized that that would involve actual effort.
