why on earth would I do that

this topic is trying to convince ME and anyone else in the intended audience (board 8) to support the republican candidates. if you want to convince people of something you sort of have to provide proof that what you are saying is true. I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else of anything, I just want a reliable source before I will believe something that might not be true.

i don't see how it's insulting unless you are hyper defensive. maybe because most of the people on board 8 are incapable of critical thinking you guys are just used to not ever having to back up what you say but in the real world nobody is going to believe you without proof. honestly I'd be more insulted if I went around making outrageous claims and people believed me without questioning my sources.

Ulti doesn't make statements of fact though. He states conclusions as fact, which is totally different. Example:

Barack Obama proposed raising taxes on people earning more than 250k a year: a statement of fact.

Barack Obama's policies will lead us to communism: a statement of conclusion.

If Ron Paul actually supports SOPA, but he says he opposes it, there's no source that's going to tell you about that, at least until it actually comes up for a vote. So if you don't take his word for it, you're stuck looking at his past voting record on other bills. That's public record, and you can find it pretty easily all over the place.

There is no way to think someone like him would support a bill like this even if it weren't riddled with the flaws that are making tons of people and actual corporations vocally oppose this.

Basically, this seems like a moment of stupidity fueled more by false entitlement and superiority than an actual lack of intelligence. You know, like most people who are stupid on the Internet.

I get this topic, but as mentioned in other topics, Romney didn't voice against sopa. Someone asked about sopa and that it will kill their business, Romney said that he is against bills like that. Dude didn't know sopa, was clear by his answer. Bills that try to stop the bad act, and prerfs those encouraging businesses to do good thing. It was the most vague wishy washy throwaway answer which pandered to the person. Not even worth calling an answer.

Or better said, he was Romney.


Paul is against it and I don't even need a source to be confident of that. His greatest asset is that you can actually say that and be right.

This. As I said, everyone who knows anything about Ron Paul, whether you agree with him or not, should come to the logical conclusion that this is the sort of thing he would oppose. Ron Paul votes no on pretty much everything anyway. Why should *I* have to spend the time researching and providing a source for something that any reasonable person would easily assume to be true. It's the person making the controversial claim that should provide a source.

If I claim that the sun is really hot, *I* don't need to provide a source for that. The person who shows up and then says "NO IT ISN'T" probably does, though.

I pretty much agree with Muffin here, you could reasonably expect Paul to oppose SOPA/PIPA without a source. Now, the statement that Romney opposed them, that I agree required a source, for instance, since it doesn't follow automatically from his established record.

I am not afraid of being wrong. If Ron Paul was in fact anti-SOPA since before there was much public outcry, that's great. That's exactly the kind of thing I LIKE to know. It's not like I'm going to be upset if I am proven wrong. The discussion here is that asking for a source is not a personal attack against someone - it's just asking for a source.
