What is League of Legends? League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. An overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:
There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team. There is also The Crystal Scar, the map currently used for the Dominion game mode. The Dominion overhead view looks like this:
What are Champions? Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.
What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything? When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win. Your summoner level also determines: (1) How many runes you can slot and (2) How many mastery points you can allot
If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.

What is IP again? IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, that’s right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.
And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.
To sum up: You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level) You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots) You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)
This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesn’t quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post: (1) Your GameFAQs name (2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name) (3) Your preferred champions. It’s just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.
And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly.

I take one day off watching the topic and of course somebody puts the new one up. People just can't wait five seconds. :-/
Anyway, I'm very worried about the Jax changes. Can anybody else look at them and tell me it isn't more or less a straight nerf? The only part of him that was buffed was, naturally, Counterstrike, but that's a small mercy when he has lost more than half of his previous AS boost, his health increase, his full-AD scaling on Leapstrike, and so on. I see only two plusses to him now:
-Counterstrike is semi-safe harass because it lets you get in and get out unscathed if timed right. -He gains an absolutely colossal roiding boost from R. I haven't done math yet, but a deathcap by itself takes you to 300 AP, and you can crack 300 AD without that much effort. Problem is, of course, that you melt under fire because you have no defensive boost...so unless you can one-touch kill, you're screwed.
Time will tell if the free harass is good enough. Gut feeling says Jax might be scary in midlane still, and another gut feeling says he's a jungler now. I don't know, but I'm curious if anybody else has any opinions.

According to some mathcrafting I read yesterday, at 200AP and 300AD it's worth ~7.6k gold, while his old passive gave you ~5.5k at the same items. I think I'm remembering that correctly...

The problem here being that you just lost synergy. Yeah, cool, you gain roflmassive gold advantage. Try telling Mundo how that colossal roiding boost works out if you can't take the heat. Much math has been done on the subject of damage vs. defense. In the end, proper mixing works much better.
PS: Also, Jax lost 80% AS - AKA two Recubows, AKA about 0.5 AS or more. That's 2100 gold...in other words, exactly as much cash as you got out of the new roiding boost. The issue is, Jax is now 100% all-in on offensive. He's like Master Yi, with stupid good offensive boosts and no way to go in without getting cooked except for one ability. I'm not convinced that this works. This feels like a nerf to me because you lost your exponential defensive scaling - so now you get a much more reduced effect from MR and armor. Not to mention Jax also lost Nimbleness, which is even more gold lost, and also a precious precious stat that you won't get back ever again.
EDIT: Incidentally, that mathcraft is completely wrong because it operated based off of TOTAL AD, not bonus. I literally just got done reading it, and I can tell you it's kind of a crock of **** that used wrong stats, wrong damage values, wrong everything. So Jax in fact LOST gold. Not a good time to be a Jumping Jax.
Actually, why the hell not, mathcraft time for the people who don't know Jax.
Old Jax used to have:
-82 MR boost for six seconds. Roughly speaking, this increased your EHP by 82% while the boost was active, so really your teamfight EHP was 82% higher. -18% innate dodge, always active. With Tabi, this combined for an effective 25% EHP boost, permanently, against autos. -Super fast HP scaling off his passive. Mix with the above to get astronomical amounts of HP, close to what a heavily kitted tank would get. If you weren't very farmed, you could get like 500 HP over your 2k baseline. So in fights, that's 5k EHP before any base resists or anything, going from purely naked 0 MR 0 Armor values. -140% AS roiding boost. You're not likely to get that many stacks of your passive, but since it's hard to gauge average stacks we'll go with the max. That's more than three recubows worth of AS, and something like 0.8 AS in bonuses. Coupled with your base AS, that's 1.8 AS without items. This means you can basically ignore AS as a stat. -MS boost from Nimbleness. This made you much harder to shake off, because you have a natural movespeed of 360 when you've got a counter proc, before even boots or anything. Suffice is to say, nobody could get away from you without their own MS booster or team/tower cover.
So, what does the New Jax get?
New Jax Got:
-MR boost is gone. You lose an 82% EHP boost. -Counterstrike is tweaked. You nullify autoattack damage for 1.5 seconds. This is hard to gauge vs the permanent 18-25% of yore, but my guess is that the latter boost is better, because you cannot screw Jax out of benefitting from it, and given his bulkiness, it adds up to more resistance over time. -Your HP scaling is shot to hell. You get 2k HP base now, so kiss your toughness goodbye. Combine with the above changes and it's fair to say Jax is about 30% as beefy as before. 100% from defense boosts, 100% from lost HP and its multiplicative effectiveness of aforesaid boosts. -Your AS boost is 60% at max now. You gain about 0.3 AS from it. This plus your base puts you at 1.3 AS, so you shoot about as fast as a carry with one Phantom Dancer. This is...passable I guess, but you still need to get AS to trigger your relentless assault procs. -Roiding boosts gained. 65 AP and 65 AD. The AP is basically a pittance and worth ignoring. The AD boost is interesting though, as roughly speaking, using eyeballing and napkin math, it gives you similar performance to your previous damage. Downside being, of course, that it is contingent on not getting shut down at any point during your six seconds of buffness...and that it doesn't combo well with your Relentless Assault procs. So you suffered a damage loss from hitting with your supercharge less.
So basically, Jax's damage went down slightly, he doesn't have Nimbleness, he lost his tankiness (he doesn't have defensive scaling now. Period.), and he's ridiculously open to magical burst. I'm *probably* seeing things too darkly because Jax is one of my two favorite champions, but this kinda feels like when Morde's shield regen got cut literally in half. Something is missing. This isn't the Jax I know and love. He's...lesser. Stumped. Meaningless, without the ability to properly disengage AND the loss of the defensive boosts that let him stick to somebody after early laning. I'm just depressed right now, like the sun isn't shining as brightly as it did. Anybody care to tell me I'm wrong, that my champion is gonna be fine? Anybody? ;_;
Oof, well that was fun. Locked in Morgana first, then Ashe and Kassadin are picked. Thought they might leave me the middle, but nope, they spend the first five minutes of the game fighting over it. I realize this and I'm in bottom with a Master Yi and I'll be playing the role of "Hey buddy, you can have all the last kills you want! I'll just make sure no champions come kill you!"
Which doesn't work when your carry partner is Leeroy Jenkins.
Needless to say we lost that game spectacularly. It was a lot of fun hearing the Yi whine that we weren't assisting him in fights and that it was always a 1v2 when he's the one running solo halfway across the map chasing down people into obvious traps. Quite hilarious by the end that he still never learned.

If new Jax buys a BV, he can be invincible for 1.5 seconds (due to server lag, BV can actually absorb multiple spells, if they hit simultaneously). After he's finished being invincible, he AOE stuns.
I don't know if he's better now or not, my guess is that they nerfed him because his old numbers were insane. But you should play to his strengths, one of which is apparently having the best initiation in the game.

A guy who melts does not have good initiation. Literally all that the Opposing Force needs to screw you over is a skillshot and you're completely ****ed. The new Jax is basically the Extra Old Jax, also known as Spellbound Jax because he 100% folded to CC. If the enemy has a Kennen or Morg you might as well not even show up - you won't do anything in that fight. He needs his MR burst back in the worst way, seriously. Give him that again and he'll be OK, mostly.
Only planned to do two, maybe three to get FWoTD and started on rebuilding IP after the Trundle buy two days ago, and then I glance at my wins/loss record, and at the clock, and it's 197/179 , I've 1000 more IP than I started the day with, and it's 5:24 in the afternoon. >_>'

this is how I felt after Nidalee, and I really think that was a turning point for me. I just had less motivation to play as frequently after that.

Jax and Lee Sin were pretty much focusing on killing me exclusively in lane. I died 4 times.
Our Soraka and Nasus wouldn't stop calling me trash, as if I was somehow proud of my performance.
We got Baron stolen twice because apparently when you know Lee Sin is sitting behind the wall, you have to assume he's going to screw up the steal. But that's beside the point.
I knew that if I let any of these clowns get into my head, I would have already lost. I farmed up and we ended up winning once I got my defenses fortified. Soraka, not wanting to look bad, said all I did was farm, didn't get any kills, and that I contributed nothing.
I look forward to playing with that person again.

So after looking at Vayne's Silver Bolts passive, i'm thinking about trying this AS build on her:
Boots (Swiftness most likely due to Vayne's horrible base Move speed, possibly Merc Treads) Phantom Dancer Stark's Fervor Wit's End (if enemy is mage heavy)/Madred's Bloodrazor (if not) Ionic Spark

The only issue i see with the build is that it doesn't build AD at all. But with Silver Bolts and Bonus Damage from Wit's/Madred's and IS, i figured it would be about even.

despite silver bolts, the majority of damage dealt by vayne will be AD.
At max level, silver bolts will deal 300 damage to someone with 3000 hp (their tank). During those three auto attacks, with just your base AD (no AD items, runes, or masteries), you would deal 325.5 damage to them. Yes, this is just base damage, and since it's AD it would be reduced by armor. However, with your PD, one of those attacks will probably crit.
The rest of your on hit build are items that deal magic damage. These will be reduced by MR, so in order to maximize your damage late game, you need to build void staff. Vayne has nothing that scales with AP, so buying void staff is throwing away gold.
Not to mention that trying to proc silver bolts on a target in a hectic teamfight can be quite dangerous.
Building AD produces the most damage, both from auto attacks and abilities. It is also safer, since you can switch to, and melt, any target you choose. Silver bolts is nice against tanks that think they can walk into your team. Obviously vayne scales well with attack speed, but if armor is making you sad build last whisper.
