edit: meant gone down, not out of bounds. obviously going out of bounds makes no sense in any situation.

Except odds are the playcalling would be different if the situation was less than a minute left and no timeouts. They probably wouldn't be calling medium-length passes to the tight end in the middle of the field in that situation.

But the point is that the Saints offense is good enough to score quickly, regardless of the situation.

And now at least the 49ers still have a chance to win instead of having no chance.

If you need to score to get ahead, then take the points when they're there.

Unpopular opinion, but depends on the situation, IMO.

If the Saints have no timeouts and the two-minute warning has passed (or will occur on the end of the play) I think you absolutely take the first down, assuming you have a timeout yourself. Then just kneel down/center the ball on the first three downs and kick with 3-5 seconds left. Wasn't the case there though, obviously.

Saints scoring the TD doesn't change my opinion about the TD being an acceptable decision there.

Honestly, that looked incomplete to me too. However, I can't bring myself to be surprised that that got upheld. Disappointed, sure, but not surprised.
